Any site that 'forces' you to use a specific browser is just plain stupid. The only site I know of that does this is Microsoft's own home page.
Any website designed to look good in a standards compliant browser WILL work in IE. It might just look shitty, that's all.
However, what about the moron web developers that develop websites whose functionality is actually broken in a standards compliant browser? They lost 5 or more percent of all web surfers.
IE users have 100 percent functionality in all of my projects. It might just look better when using a compliant browser, that's all. In other words, my projects can be viewed by a larger percentage of surfers than an developer exclusively developing for IE.
Perhaps you are angry because you just spent a bunch of money on an MSCE, or perhaps you are afraid of switching to a browser other than one you're comfortable with.
you've just discredited your entire post. good job.
Most of the websites I design are geared towards technical folks, not the general public. Since technical folks are a bit more 'in the know' about web browsing, most of them are running a w3c compliant browser.
I just don't get it. Microsoft has the capability to create a web browser that's w3c compliant, secure and blindingly fast. why don't they? because, they don't want to play on a level playing field with any other company or technology.
Give yourself a pat on the back, AmigaAvenger, for it is folks such as yourselves that supports this bad business ethic. If web developers around the world started following a standard that was put into place for our benefit, there wouldn't be idiotic problems with the different browsers like there are today.
Perhaps then, we can put more focus on content, rather than the delivery.
What on EARTH is up with IE's css support? is it intentionally designed to be completely broken?
damn, no kidding.
i design web sites for a living. there's nothing worse than getting a web site looking just the way you want, then running a W3C CSS and HTML validator and having everything check out 100 percent....then to check the site with IE. holy crap, my PNG files aren't transparent anymore? what are all these extra spaces all over the place? why does the site now look so shitty?
1. Debian Stable is a long standing distro with support best measured in multiple years. Fedora Core says 6 months of support.
A long standing distro yes, with long standing packages. Sorry bud, but kernel 2.2 and apache 1.3 doesn't cut it for me anymore. Sure, I can run unstable. Let me go ask the boss if I should run unstable packages on our production system. If I wanted to run a system that acts like Debian, I could always put Redhat 5.2 back on. Also, with Fedora you have a choice of where to get your packages. I currently use Freshrpms.net for my apt repository. So much for your 6 monthso f support theory.
2. Debian always backports security fixes to the stable. Fedora Core's policy is explicity to upgrade to the latest packages
ok, you get a few points here, but sometimes newer packages are released for newer and faster working features.
I sysadmin both Redhat and Debian machines on different networks in several different countries. I find the Redhat machines much easier to maintain. I get at least a call a month for each Debian machine, where I get a call maybe once every 6 months (if at all) about the Redhat ones.
Look folks, I want to like Debian, I really do. I mean, it seems like I'd be cooler if I used it. But based on my experience, I only recommend Debian to hobbyists and garages.

of course jobs are easier to get via networking and knowing the right folks. however, i did submit my resume to monster.com for a linux sysadmin. two days later, i received a phone call for an interview for said position. i was hired on the spot at $75,000 a year (and this was after the dotboom).
i have been in a position reading resumes and trying to find the winning one for a position. let me tell you, the one thing that many resumes lack is personality. put your picture on there or write a witty summary at the end describing your ideal position and why.
remember, these are people reading these things and not a machine!
is there some law that requires ISP's to hold this type of data for a specific period or even at all?
This reminds me of when I ran a BBS in 1983 or so. Most of my callers were from out of state and used hacked MCI or Sprint codes to make the free calls to my board. Months after I quit my BBS, Sprint called and wanted to know who was dialling me from Boston. I told them I didn't have those records. At that point, the operator got uppity with me and said, 'but you ARE the system operator of this BBS, right?' to which I replied, 'Ya lady, but I'm only 14 years old!'.
But modern America doesn't try to hide what happened.
oh? ask any American how much of a part the Russians had in WW2, and many will say, 'the russians fought in WW2?'
the fact is, Russia lost more soldiers than any other nation (in the millions). what did the Americans lose, like 30 thousand or so?
the Germans were mostly defeated by Russia. the coalition forces basically landed in Normandy and did a clean up job after the heart of the German force was already crushed.
i attended the American public school system from kindergarten thru high school, and in every history book along the way, i read that the Americans and coalition forces are responsible for the defeat of the German empire. i now know that while the coalition forces were surly a helping hand, it was the Russian forces that was the determining factor in the defeat of the German empire.
here in Saint Petersburg bandwidth typically costs 6 cents per megabyte. a good ISP here will give you unlimited up traffic, however.
i think the place where bandwidth grows on trees is in Sweden. i visited a friend there recently and his apartment building was connected with fiber. it was nice downloading the latest mozilla at 3-4 megabits per second.
After starting working for a new company, I was taking over as the linux sysadmin. One of the things the CTO was very proud of was the uptime on our main development server (four hundred and something days of uptime).
A few days into the job, i went to shutdown my workstation, with the shutdown command. After hitting enter, I realized I was logged into our development server!
I totally panicked, but kept my cool enough to jump to another logged in console and init 3 the machine back into existance before the shutdown went too far!
We're exposed to the same games, same movies, and the same media, but shootings are murders are all but a fraction of that in the US (even comparing similiar sized towns, adjusting for population, and such).
because it doesn't have to do with movies or games or media.
America is one of the most racially diverse countries in the world and it still hasn't found a way to cope with that fact. there's your problem folks.
I suspect the humour went right over your head... yes, i understand that it could be looked at in a humorous manner, but i think you fail to see how much hard word and dedication it took for thousands of people to come together and make this kind of accomplishment.
every single time the moon landings are brought up, some joker mentions that they're fake. next thing you know, an entire generation could get it in their heads that the landings aren't real, then there goes a very important piece of history.
which is why it's still such a controversial subject even today. it's only controversial to those who haven't done any research, knows nothing of science (properties of space and gravity) and probably lacks the mental capacity (think double digits) to understand a scientific fact if it hit them in the head.
oh, and just for fun, look at it this way: if the landings WERE faked, do you think thousands of people could keep it a secret? exactly.
"0717 GMT (2:17 a.m. EST) About 24 megabits of data is being played back from Odyssey. It will take about 12 minutes to get all the information, officials report. This will contain engineering data on the rover's systems and possibly some pictures."
assume this was a typo and they meant 24 megabytes. that would only put the transfer rate at about 17kbps
if they really meant 24 megabits of data, than i'm afraid the transfer rate is considerably less than that.

That's about 17KBps, which isn't bad for a long distance wireless network!
i'm a little disappointed in the crappy 80kb real audio stream. they used to have a beautiful 300kb streaming wmv that was extremely pleasant in full screen. budget cuts anyone?
moderated as funny, but i think it's sort of disturbing because the parent can be true:
Why do people soup up their Honda Civic with mods instead of buying a better car?

Why do people buy Acura with leather seats and high-end mods instead of buying a better BMW for the same price?
anyone who prefers a Japanese car over a German one is a moron. period. i've owned Japanese cars and I've owned German cars. night and day folks, night and day.
on a recent business trip to Manhatten, I asked the hotel front desk about getting drinking water. they told me that's why the glass is in my room and that the water that supplies Manhatten is potable!
my family has used water filters in Southern California since the early seventies, so drinking out of the tap has always seemed strange to me..
here in Russia, the cold water is extremely cloudy, and while taking a hot shower, the water will sometimes go brown, yuck. i either boil or purchase all my water here...
wow, an obscure reference that happens to be my favorite song. bravo!

pity? ya, i bought my copy for 80 roubles, that's about $2.50
you don't need to pity me, it was chump change.
"And I thought you still pay in Rubels and Kopekes. Silly me."
you would be surprised how welcome american dollars are here. we pay our rent and some bills in dollars, the rest in roubles.

the good folks over at Fedoranews.org has put out a installation guide that some users may find useful.

But why did you decide that shot are made on Mars? It's made in Hollywood, in the same studio as 30 years ago made "documentary" about Moon.
attempting to change history by spreading misinformation is a tragedy. you should be ashamed of yourself.
what's next? no jews were killed during ww2? there was no such thing as a berlin wall?
you disgust me.
