I've said before, I have no shame when it comes to this sort of thing. I'd happily fake an orgasm (loudly) if I was sure someone behind me was videoing it for youtube.
But most security areas I've been in forbid the use of cellphones, cameras, etc...
You know what else? For a readership that is supposed to be somewhat intelligent, it's amazing to me how many people on slashdot a) jumped straight into "I'm scared" mode b) believed the mainstream news (honestly, since when are we all that gullible?) c) disputed the few experts on slashdot who knew what they were talking about.
that an infinate number of monkeys, working for an infinate amount of time will eventually recreate the works of shakespere.. does this mean the *IAA will seek to outlaw monkeys, or just the practice of giving monkeys keyboards?
Neither, since Shakespeares works are in the Public domain and we don't have an infinite amount of time.
However, Dan Browns novels will take a dozen monkeys about two weeks, so I think you might be on to something there.
There's no reason to assume that their time dimension runs parallel to our own. Any universe created in the lab might easily branch off in some other non-euclidian direction. In which case, it would all be over before it starts, so to speak.
Why it isn't a given that Bankers will break the law to make money? It is universally true by observation, even if we can't figure out how to prove it empirically.
In the 21st century, I feel it is unlikely that we'll see major western governments engaging in systematic abuse of human rights such as we saw in the 19th and early 20th centuries.
Are you SERIOUS? Abu-Gharib? Extraordinary rendition? Enhanced interrogation?
Those who refuse to remember history are condemned to repeat it.
That may be so, but the British govt are less likely to hijack a plane and fly it into a landmark.
Yeah, they are more likely instead to drive a tank into a stadium and open fire on the public. Or massacre a gathering of men, women and children. (Jallianwala Bagh, Qissa Khwani, etc...) and when their own troops refuse to fire on unarmed women and children, the troops get arrested and sentenced to life imprisonment. (Royal Garhwal Rifles)
The british government has a long history of incredible brutality, and history is remembered for a long time, when your people are the ones under the lash of the whip. Most british people today would either not be aware of their countries brutality, and would not believe it if told. Or would try to say it was all so long ago, so forget it.
I find it enlightening to know just how crazy some people are out there. We're talking the kind of guy that thinks everyone should be converted to Sharia law, forcefully if necessary.
Like say, how Ann Coulter said the Muslims should be converted to Christianity, by force if necessary?
It's strange to watch someone debate a topic, when that debate would not even be allowed if he had his way.
Like say, how Bill O'Reilly shouts "CUT HIS MIKE!!" when a guest tries to debate a point which Bill doesn't have an answer for?

Tell me, exactly what does the US government have to do to its citizens for it to be newsworthy?
Work for them.
which kind of begs the question of whether there is any decent hubble-related comedy out there?
Rule 34, coming right u--
Oh wait, you said hubble-related *comedy*. My bad.
To me the amazing achievement in the Ironman movies that nobody seems to notice is the Jarvis AI he's got.
It's not AI. It's an English butler with a bondage fetish, that Tony has locked in high-tech closet in the basement.
Of course. Because the average soldier will wear this suit every day for 20 years.
Are you high?
Yeah, that makes perfect sense.
Well, now we know, YOU were wrong.

This is a joke, right?

If we are gods, we can only hope our creations are morally superior to us.
Hey, suddenly Jehovah the blood thirsty desert god makes a lot more sense.

As much as I might hate bankers, yeah, it was supposed to be a joke. Sorry, it's early, and I haven't had coffee yet.
They are BANKERS.
Why it isn't a given that Bankers will break the law to make money? It is universally true by observation, even if we can't figure out how to prove it empirically.

You listed child pornography twice.

I have seen the enemy. And it is us.
We meet again.
When have they ever cared about cutting spending? What's that even got to do with it?
Oh please. When it's cutting spending on public welfare programs. Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, etc...
"And I can drink beer from bottle straight up."
It's one thing I like about European cinemas; getting a beer in the foyer and drinking it while watching the movie.
Of course, I can do that at home too, but you know what I mean.
will make it FAR more embarrassing for the dude or dudette who has to examine my sweaty junk.
The biggest complaints about this new policy will soon be coming from the staff.
Before this 6 minute ultra charge (or all night long 220volt recharge) becomes relatively affordable?
calendar years, could it?
If 65% of the American Public believed Glen Beck, they'd have started a civil war by now.
Look at the sales figures for Prozac and its ilk. We've already got a pharmacated electorate.
