TN is yet-another state full of morons who voted in hordes for you-know-who. Not exactly an indicator of having a grasp of their own best interests, right? Come on... this is what happens when the National Interest is the driver for decades, and the Public Interest (which includes education) is given the old heave-ho. Get used to it if you aren't already...
It's time for Uber to follow the same rules that Taxi companies must follow, or, stop doing business.
As a former taxi driver (who honestly has no dog in this fight, personally) I have to say, "Thank you."
Although nobody is "forced" to drive a cab, for those that choose to do so, it's a tough way to make a living. Uber has been underwritten by a handful of Silicon Valley billionaires in order to operate at a huge loss, for years, in an effort to drive all competitors out of business, at which point Uber will be able to raise rates and dictate to the market, as all monopolies (sanctioned, or not) will do.
This is simply not fair, in the long run, to any of us... drivers or riders.
Motherboard actually had an interesting article pointing out that VPNs actually aren't all that great for routine browsing
Motherboard.. LOL
They say they got 5% of their normal speed w/PIA... Gee, using an NYC server, how could that happen?/s
I get 85-95% of my cable speed with PIA, and that's while using a crowded Silicon Valley server... Drops to 75% when I use Southampton (UK) for BBC-related. London server would be considerably worse. I think I see a pattern here...
I do torrents for all my fave (3 or 4, LOL) network series and films, so, basically, we'd be paying $105/month, plus $44 or so for an additional 5 months, just to watch the Habs, Giants, and Law & Order reruns. Why the torrents? Because I like subtitles, which I re-edit and sync, properly, and can't stand the archaic-looking closed captioning here in the US and Europe.
Cable blows, sports fan or not. we pay for the Cable, which covers the cable co's costs and profit margin, then we get commercials, and these in-program adverts across the bottom of the fucking screen. It's demeaning. I encourage everyone to cut the cord, send a message to these artless, greedy creeps.
When I lived in Quebec I had a pirate digital satellite de-scrambler, and could watch local news, coast-to-coast (nice for a guy like me who was a bit of a nomad, at one time for 20 years) and sports and whatever else i felt like. Think: Live Torrenting! The good old days...
But these days? Absolute robbery.
Oh, and #FuckESPN they're east-coast-centric, and, as everybody knows, loaded down with tiddly-winks and has-beens. Their so-called product is some sick shit... and not the "good" sick, nope.
In fact I hadn't planned on pirating anything but because of Cogent doing this, I'm going to grab a bunch of stuff at random from TPB today just to be a dick.
I'm hourly and required to carry a work cellphone 24/7 despite...
Man, my GF and I were just talking about exactly that... all the millions of people in your situation... She's a corporate lawyer, well-regarded, and plugged-in to work practically every minute that she's awake. In her late 60s, and it's burden, but she's well-paid, for sure, but... you're right about the war on unions, and I'd add (what you clearly are already aware of...) the scapegoating of unions, etc., being near the root of all of this horrid work "ethic" that is the American "way." It's an outrage, and unions and the return of organized workers, and encouragement of collective bargaining, is way way overdue...
Couldn't they just jailbreak it? I can see every file on my jailbroken 5S running 9.3.3, and I'm pretty sure there are still JB utilities out there for 8.x
if you exclude far-right liberal California, Trump took the Popular Vote as well. If you are Californian, I don't even feel sorry for you.
Actually, you have to exclude the CA vote, as well as Illinois and New York, and then it's a closer race, and Trump does win.
I figure, since you mentioned it, that only a retard could explain "far-right liberal," so go for it...
We don't need your empathy, pity, or anything from you out here, either, by the way. Stay in whatever shithole you're stuck in. We're happy for you, believe it!
Obama, love him or hate him, most certainly made appointment choices that were far most consistent to his campaign messages than what Trump is doing.
what? Like keeping Bush's Secretary of Defense? Or maybe you mean that thing about "protecting whistle-blowers?" No? Oh, okay, you must mean his repeated avowals to have "the most open and transparent administration" ever? Yeah?
If you look at extensive polling, Americans, by clear majorities, favor a government-run single-payer health system, criminal charges for bankers responsible for the Wall Street global recession, a $15 minimum wage, breaking up the big banks, much higher taxes on the super wealthy, etc... So how, exactly, was Obama, or Hillary, "mainstream?" You mean like "mainstream" billionaires that want everyone under surveillance while we fight endless wars? "That" mainstream?
Light roast, mmmm. I used to use a light brown, dryish, not oily at all, Colombian bean that was supplied by my local market (this was in Montreal, no longer local, unfortunately), in a wholesale fashion (5 kilo bags I think).
My question is: Was yours Colombian and a light french roast, and if so, (or similar) do you have a link whereby it can be gotten in bulk?
What's next? Socks? Forks and spoons? Bath soap? Dish soap?
A buddy of mine--a master's degree holder in organic chemistry from McGill--states that the difference between hand soap, dish soap and laundry detergent, is a few molecules at most.
As for the people wondering "haven't they sorted this all out yet?" Yes, they have, the ideal size of the grind (discounting factors like roasting time, roasting heat, origin of the bean, etc) has been sorted out. I found out (in about 5 minutes, yay web) that my french press will put out the best it can with grains that are whittled down to about 400 microns in diameter, using water that is a few degrees beneath 100 degrees (C.), and stirred, rowboat-style, after one minute, before steeping in the covered press for an additional 4 minutes... The only problem being, after an exhaustive hunt it appears that none of the steel or ceramic grinder/mortars actually produce a 400 micron-wide grind. C'est la vie.
Meanwhile the University of California at Davis (renowned in ag) is building a School of Coffee as we read/type.
If you are still hanging on to, say, a 5S, why would you upgrade to a 7?
Uh... you wouldn't. I realize that's your point, but as a jailbroken 5S owner, dabbling in slightly higher end video, you'd upgrade to an SE, like me.
My external video gadgets slide right over from the 5S to the SE. I get 6S equivalents, almost top-to-bottom, it's the right size as far as I'm concerned, and it's at least a couple hundred bucks cheaper than a 7 (which I don't want anyway, due to size, cost, and the fact that the dual-camera setup screws up my video attachments).
I'll use the jailbroken 5S for as long as possible and the SE for a cam... until an iOS10 jailbreak comes out. Win-win for me. Anybody who's used Apple gear as long as I have (since 79/80, knows that the iPhone 8 will be the first iPhone distinctly different/better than the 6. Apple is a creature of habit, just like most "people."
I won't ever, ever be buying a computer that lacks the function keys. Ever...
Amen, oops, I mean... same here. I wish we could un-map all the "labeled" functions (dim, brighter, volume up/down, whatever), so I could just use the F-keys the way I try to: as shortcuts that are app-specific.
With the Sierra latest update my early-2016 MacBook Pro now "repeats/duplicates" F-keys 1-3 (or maybe 4?) onto F13-19. I had to go back and do some triage in my main text editor and Virtual Box, in order to artificially limit my extended keyboard to 12 function keys. Totally insane!
...Don't get me wrong, I love me some good old 'mom and apple pie', but the US makes me very sad these days....
You're lucky you had a place to go back to. Most US citizens, like myself, unless they're rich, unlike myself, are stuck here. Other countries favor rich immigrants, unless you're a sanctioned refugee from some western power-created hellhole, somewhere.
I lived in Canada for nearly 30 years, and never bothered to upgrade my permanent residency to full citizenship, went back to the States for a supposedly "brief" business adventure, and the Trade Center thing went down, our business tanked almost instantly (for no "connected" reason whatsoever), and the next thing I knew I'd overstayed outside Canada, and now I'm still here...
We're selling our house in California, and sliding into either Vermont or Washington... It's a nasty compromise, at worst, and possible launchpad for a little late-life razzle-dazzle border jumping, at best... we'll see...
I wonder, though how likely it is that any regular person would be able to get anyone else to pay their bills.
It is not difficult to find non-celebrities out there in the real world who have overwhelming medical/recovery needs. It does require minimal effort, of course, which stops a huge number of potential donors, but the key word there is *minimal*. I'm on Social Security, myself, and have been contributing to several individuals' funds, for the last couple of years, to allow them to recover from severe medical emergencies.
Sure, I have to think twice about some superfluous outlays (for instance, I'm still happily using an iPhone 5S, with an eye on an SE...), but again, the effort is minimal. I'm in a fortunate position, to be sure, and not all of us can make these types of choices. That's understandable; but to think that only the rich and famous have access to community aid, is an inaccurate oversimplification of the actual situation.
...that this won't pretty Apple's implementation of Bluetooth (especially in terms of simple connectivity, and dependability) is a world of hurt... Whether it's to my phone, or, more often, my in-ear monitors... their bluetooth radio tech simply blows. I cannot even begin to imagine how many times I've suffered dropped signals and static. Atrocious...
fucking christ, can we get a 5-minute "window" for self-edits???? my post was: I have a feeling... [break] this won't [insert: end] pretty [Insert: period] Apple... blah blah blah...

I'm getting consistent 85-95% speeds on my VPNs. I can live with 85 MBs down, 1.5MB up, if I really have to. And latency? You're thinking satellite, no? My pings are quick. My phone is running VPN and convos have zero echo/delay... so latency? What latency? One has to shop around; I didn't get lucky, I subscribed to a boatload of providers and A/B'd it.

Hey! No apology necessary. Thanks for all the info!

Again... Motherboard? Please.
I cannot imagine why anyone, anywhere, would want to pay for Cable TV if they don't watch sports. I wouldn't, I know that. But unfortunately for me, and fortunately for Comcast in the SF Bay Area, I'm a Giants fan, from way back, and I lived in Montréal for 30 years, and am a huge Habs fan. So, they got me. We pay for Cable (subsidized because my GF is an attorney for an association of cable & telecoms) but I pay an additional amount for a number of months to watch all the home & away games of the Canadiens. It's insane, I know this, and on a number of levels...
I do torrents for all my fave (3 or 4, LOL) network series and films, so, basically, we'd be paying $105/month, plus $44 or so for an additional 5 months, just to watch the Habs, Giants, and Law & Order reruns. I just go to TorrentFreak and check "Top 10 Most Pirated Movies of The Week on BitTorrent." There's your Must-to-Avoid in a nutshell.
Adam & Eve are gonna be pissed!
Nope. They're actually thinking about buying Charter, not Comcast.
Please be a good "dick," don't forget to seed :)

You have repeated this over and over. Well, guess what? Repetition makes it neither logical, nor true...
It does lend credence to the notion that you're a rambling, repetitive, retarded, fuckwad, though. So, uh, keep up the good work, dumbass.
