    I think by 2000 most PCs had at least one USB port. Though Windows 95 didn't offer much support for USB, Windows 98 & Windows 2000 had support with an update.

    I rackmounted.

    I found a 1/3 rack in a trash can (actually I have a full rack in my back-yard, not used .. yet). Converted my main two computers from standard ATX cases to rackmountable cases. I picked up a rackmountable switch. I have a rackmountable UPS waiting to be setup. Most of the cables hang-out in the rack box.
    Though a bunch of them are under the desk: Monitor cables, various KVM cables, etc.
    I also mounted a lifting door to the top of the rack, so I could get to the inside fairly easily. Though it has turned into a work bench, so fairly easily is now, not at all.

    Basically to straighten up, stop being a slob like me :)

    It would be cool if I mounted some tubing around the edge of my desk to pull the wires *thinks about where the next paycheck is going*

    Well, they're going to either need to teach the users how to access the WebDAV system or how to use FTP. Thankfully with programs like FileZilla (google it), FTP is stupid easy! Can you drag and drop? If yes, then you can use FileZilla :)

    I've been using Dreamweaver since version 1.0, excellent program. I actually don't use it anymore, I hand code everything, with UltraEdit.

    Your CEO is a lying sack of shit, he wants you to do two jobs, you will be on call, expect no personal time off. Tell him that you are not interested in following that career path or you expect to manage at least two people to do that job. I've talked to many recruiters looking for a "Web Developer, Systems Administrator, Quality Assurance, Graphic Designer, Network Administrator", I tell them all to fuck off.

    Nerds saying that girls don't want guys who appear to be as stereotypical nerds appear. Followed up with sheep agreeing with them, or joking about the responce.

    What do nerds look like?
    Well, I've seen everything from the stereotype to punks with 2' tall mohawks to weight lifters to corporate types ... all nerds. Perhaps it is popular in hollywood for chicks to date nerds, but who the f* cares what's going on in hollywood, it's all fake anyway!

    Um... the video production industry used betamax, until DV tapes came out. They're still phasing them out. Betamax became the choice for professionals while VHS was for consumer release.

    There's enough tutorial here to get you started, after you (hopefully) remove the spyware from your friend's computer..
    1. Get him a decent firewall that you can configure to only let certain executables through. I like sygate firewall.
    2. Delete or disable Internet Explorer, if that's too extreme, remove it from the desktop.
    3. Install FireFox
    4. Uncheck "Hide extensions for known file types.", this is in Tools -> Folder Options..., in explorer
    5. Tell him not to run any executable pr0n he downloads off of p2p.
    6. Install Firefox & Thunderbird, tell him to never use Outlook & IE again.

    If it doesn't work and tech support is useless, argumentive, etc. Take the router back, never deal with the company again.

    Why the hell should YOU waste your time trying to trick them into helping you?

    If I call support with a problem and they don't want to help me, well guess what, there are other companies out there who may offer a better product with better support. Technical support is something they offer with their product, it is part of the product, if it is no good, vote with your dollar!

    For my own personal archives, I have taken the methods from the masters in USENET.

    OS X & UNIX: I'm lazy just: tar.gz

    For Win32, I back-up a lot more files under win32 than *nix.

    Compression Method: Best
    Split to Volumes: 20MB
    Parity
    QuickPar
    With general settings.

    I back-up to decent quality DVD media, as I have had a lot of problems with CD media rotting after about a year.
