Acutally they have ends....as long as you are dependant on the physical world to define the rules (those of physics at the very least) to determine your existance there may be a large number of possibilities, but there would still be limitiations, moving into a virtual world would remove ALL limitations. However I tend to agree I would want those limitations.....as Kurzweil pointed out "Death gives meaning to life"....and as Quinn said "Immortality consists largly of bordom".
WSo by your reasoning an advanced AI could never have a spirit, sould, whatever it's called with out killing/stealing someone else's? I think you've been reading too much Card and not enough Kurzweil. Remember Molly's friend George (which started as a digital assistant and ended up digitally merged with her)......i believe Kurzweil saw him as an entity who was a real and valid as a person who's been digitized even though he never han a physical self.
Because for most people the torus is the more intuitive creation....hyperspheres exist in 4 spacial dimensions, and not everyone can picture those easily.:)
Let's not start with the "Mind over matter" crap....sorry but the laws of physics don't care what you want/think should happen. You can tell your self all day that the secret to flying is tripping and forgetting to fall, but in reality that won't work.
the universe isn't the space in the middle, it's the surface area, (remember this is a 3-d representation of a 4-d problem. In this "flat world" (as it's been called before) has only X and Y axies. There in no height....so it would be impossible to get off the surface of the donught into the middle....
Yes we could see "the half way" point, however there red shift would NOT become green shift (there is no such thing) or blue shift (which does exist) because each point of view would still see things in that direction as getting further away. Think of the donught getting larger....just becuase you know where the oppisites side is doesn't mean taht things getting further from the right get closer to the left. In fact it wouldn't even effect the amount of redshift.
Ever heard of political polling (aka surveys). With out these candidates would have no idea what (lies) to tell voters. This is call "covering their own asses".
It's easy, I just use my cell phone for EVERYTHING. I never answer the home line. If I get a telemarketer (phone company, political or other wise) I explain that this is a cell phone, and I pay by the min for incomming and out going calls and as such is it illegal for them to call this number. I also ask for the company name, address and the referance number of this call that I may send them a bill for the charges of this call, which they are now legaly responsible. I only had to do that 3 times, and even with out actually sending them a bill, the calls stopped.:)
So if I'm tring to clean up my act and REALLY need to look at p0rn i guess i would just have to use the free access at the library that doens't report to my "sponsor". HE HE HE
Also what happens if someone decides to be a jack-off and makes blank, or distorted versions, and I download one of those....I just paid for crap of a P2P network.:(
If i'm going to pay, i want to be able to connect to a server somewhere and DOWNLAOD what I want. I don't want to pay for a crapshoot.
It's also cheaper to make ribbon cables...... the to make round cables. The ribbon cable is very easy to snap on connectors and then cut. where as with round cables it's easier for a wire to not get crimped right when making the cable.
There are alot of people just catching up on bill, you know what....we have to just do thing out some things. like the faster computers and the RAM to make our current ones run better.....SUCK IT UP! If you've got money...good, if not....don't wine about it!
What if the 18 wheeler is a water truck (bottles of water). it's supposed to deliver 1 bollte of water evey week. Now the guy startes driving the road all day and night dropping of one bottle of water every hour! Should I be responsible for the extra raod usage (this assumes that the water is a free thing)? If the traffic is what I contracted for (people seeing my web page) why sould I pay for it? Not to mention that something like SQL slammer wouldn't have effected their usage if the server was properly patched, which is the hoster's job.
Hell they don't have to charge for that to happen. Where I went to school they did use a MAC address registration to register computers on the netwrok. More then once someone closed my MAC address onto their machine; in one case I found out because the network manager called to find out why I was running a website of child porn. They tracked the address to someone on another subnet who had coned my MAC. It's an easy way to hid activity on an MAC registered network, not just those that charge.
I went to a school that used MAC addresses to "register" your computer on the network (well get anything not local to the school). If you did swap out a card and needed to get the new one to work, you call them, they clear your entry, and then you go to this registration page on the school's web page that let's you register (it grabs the # of the nerw NIC for you). It was a pain in the ass, and yes i had to register 1 computer and then clone that mac address to my router and hook up the other 2 machines. This scheeme may sound like a pain in the ass, but it's done many places.
Did you read the article? They mentioned times in meetings, and i'm sure that it isn't just "Go have fun". I'm sure each tester is given a set of things to test. Imagin the fun of testing out EVERYWALL on some level to make sure that you don't walk through it. Or testing out every possible path possible durring a conversation sequence of a game. It would be fun, but it could get just as boring as any other job out there. Remember that they don't just get paid to play video games, they get paid to FIND BUGS! Big difference. Trust me, i'm a computer engineer and work as a validation engineer.
Great plan, excpet that the Shuttle is designed for eath orbit, many NASA experts believe that it would be unable to traverse the distance between the earth and the moon safely.
I hate to admit it, but your wrong. It would take the US atleast a year if not 2 to get back to the moon. We DO NOT have the equpment/knowledge to build a saturn V (or even to get the parts outside kennedy spaceworthy). We would need to design a WHOLE new craft. Remember getting to the moon is easy, it's being able to get BACK that's hard. The shuttle, which is the ONLY current re-launchable craft requires MAJOR overhaul between a landing and a take off. You would need a craft that could land and take off with NO maintanence. This is not an easy task.... If one of these other governments launches a team to the moon and they get stranded, the US wouldn't be able to mount a rescue mission even if we wanted to....we would need to design and build a craft from scratch. Remember no shuttle has ever even ORBITED the moon.
I still stick to the good old highling and press the "Delete" key.....who really wants to DRAG things around? Dragging things around sounds painful. :)
Your right, however you can see the REFLECTION on light on the objects. Unless there are naturaly polished metal (or other reflective surfaces) on the moon you CAN see the light from them. I should have been more detailed in my original post.:)
No, but NASA appologized to one of the tribes, i think the Navajos, for bringing back moon rocks. It was considered a great offence to remove the rocks, like staling from god.
Let's just FORGET the fact that I've been in observatories with some massive telescopes where you can SEE some of those object on the moon.....but hey i'm sure that's rigged too.

You mean 3-uncurled non time dimensional ones like ours are hyperspheres.......
:)
come on, at least put 9-1-1 on the list of filtered calls...;)

But what if the little green men can cure Alzheimers and Parkinsons? Then you can do both at the same time......multi-tasking :).
