Also in the US you can donate your old phone to a charity and get a good % of it's worth as a tax write off. So it's not a total loss having to go out and buy a fancy new phone that you were kinda drooling over anyway.:)
Or as in my case where the area code of the city changed, and so I was aleready going to lose the Area code and first 3-digits. At that point i figured switching to a new number wasn't a big difference!
Especially since this law wouldn't help in that respect. All they have to do is put a label saying "The product may employ one or more copy-protection Mechanisms" and they would be fully compliant with the law. However from this who knows how limiting the copy protection is. This is a good law in theory, but it's just not that well written!
Actualy i think in this case the DMCA would say they are not allowed to pick the lock. Because if they get permission from the copyhold and are given the key, they can unlock the box legally.:)
Um, becasue before it goes wide release people might actually be able to GET to the servers and get decent DL speeds. After that week, it might take you 2 more to downlaod it.
Um....just because someone is "on-call" doesn't mean they work tons of overtime. People don't need to live-at-work because they MIGHT be needed sometime durring the off hours. If there's a problem that requires people to come in, they call. Even if the calls are few and far between if you are on-call you need to be reachable. Now why don't you stop over-reacting. People can work 40 hours a week and have a home life, do everything that everyone else does and still be "on-call".
I hate pople who let them ring in the thearter....but what about those of us who put them on vib because we NEED to ahve the phone. It would really suck if they ban cell phones and I can't go to movies the nights i'm on call from work! Right now, it's not a problem. Phone goes on vib, and if it goes off, the only people who know are those that see me pull it out and check the incomming number.
Or it could be as they keep saying, taht they don't see MOST people wanting more the 4GB or RAM anytime soon. Most PCs come now with 256 - 1 GB of RAM. That leaves alot of room for expansion within the 4GB limit of 32 bit. There are SOME people who need more and for them Xeon and Itanium are pretty good options. There are other advantages to 64-bit other then memory but that seems to be the main one right now.
The one I had was never that user friendly. I will admit that I had kind of an early model, but after spending alot of money and having that many problems, i really am not big on PVRs.
I'm just hoping that someone releases a DVR, and before eveyone startes screaming TiVo i said DVR not PVR. As in a dumb box that doesn't have a service, taht doesn't require a phone line that is just a VCR with a HDD. I don't care about comercial skipping, or it knowing what's on. I just want it to be able to record (preferably 2 programs at a time but 1 will do) to an internal HDD. I HATED Tivo. First it kept trying to dial the phone while i was ON IT! It started taping things I didn't want.....I watch Law and Order all the time, so it started taping NYPD Blue which i don't like...couldn't get it to stop taping it. Infact on 2 occations it taped that INSTEAD of what i asked it to tape at the same time. When I went on vacation it had tried to dial up it's home base, somehow froze and left my phone off the hook for almost a week. Then TiVo wanted $250 to replace the internal modem to fix it..... I know i'm probably in the minority having had this kinda problems, but I really didn't want the menus and all the extras in the first place. I just want a basic DVR! Ok, i'l stop ranting and raving now.
There are a whole magnitude of ways that their behaviors (and stories) could morph to "fit" the audience...only a person who has an intimate understand of that culture would have ANY hope of interacting with it without contaminating it, and even then they would have to be EXTREAMLY good at their job. However if you had that kind of familiarity with the culture, you wouldn't need to study it any more.:)
Not to mention that in the act of going out and interviewing/observing this "culture" you are chaning/contaminating it. Schrödinger's cat has SO MANY good applications.:)
I find that for people with large hands, most game pads are just too small. There are a few "large" sized ones out there, but they usually arn't very good. I'll take my X36 or X45 over a game pad anyday.:) However I still say to each their own....is MS thinks that people want to give up OPTIONS on their controlers and all use the same thing, they should go to CompUSA or BESTBUY and look at the large number of different controllers avaliable!
No, i live in the US, but I have a cell plan where I pay per min (incomming and ourtgoing) but I pay very little per min (less then 1/2 a penny per min for all calls, local or long distance). I could have a play with incomming calls free or a static min/per month with an overuse charge but i've run the numbers and this plan is cheaper for me.
Hell i would pay $50-100 more for a fridge with a webserver that could graph/report on the temp, when the door was opened/closed. How much energy it's using. That would be SO worth the $$. Imagine a washing machine that could e-mail me when it's done! The possibilities are very cool.:)
Becasue if time were limitless would you ever be worried about getting anything done? After all there would ALWAYS be tommorow. It's the fact taht there might not be a tommorow that mkaes life really interesting. I guess that some people just won't see that, and that's fine. I just hope that you have SOMETHING that gives your life meaning. If you do think about that things being gone.....that's how death gives meaning to the people who DO feel this way.:)
Ok, it sounds to me like YOUR the one talking about religion.....NonLocalCoherence ok, go have your out-of-body-experience (or what ever you want to call it), I really don't care. I am not taking the view point of Scientism; I am taking the view point of a skeptical scientist. Just because you think that curled dimensions (which probable do exist) can contain extensions of your mind does not mean that you have ANY evidence that it does, and in the absence of any evidence i tend to not give myself abilities that i probably don't have....thanks.

How many hope users are gunna crack the case and pop the heat sink to check the processor speed?

Interesting. All those AMD/Intel debates on /. and they are all taking place on all Intel boxes. :)

The joys of caller ID on the cell. I don't know the number it goes to my voice mail. :)

The analogy can be used, it's OK to try someone's doorknob...it's NOT OK to then enter through and unlocked door. One is creapy, the other illegal. :)

HA HA HA HA HA, Good Answer.

Hmmm......i believe you have slashdoted your friends.
With friends like that who needs enemies?
That's it....i'm gunna go live in a log cabin in montana, grow a beard and mail packages to important people. :) he he he

I can see taht view point. I just didn't understand from the original post that that was where you were going.
:)
