My guess would be that it's because the average Joe never hears nor understands these words;)
(yes, my perception of average Joe (aka, the masses) is not really positive).
The more time passes by, the more I hear/read about the way we're headed, the more I want to try and make a difference by going into politics.
At the same time I realise that by doing so, the grip of corruption would drag me down. Down to where the rest of the politicians are hanging out.
Tell me, how can one man make a real difference?
The guys that created MySpace are brilliant. No amount of trashing the pages the people using the MySpace service create, can ever match that brilliance.
So don't even spew trash is what I'd do;)
That's wishful thinking. I know plenty ppl who are running an illegal copy, but have their systems wide open.
Whenever I get called in (by family) because of trouble (loads of spyware which horribly slows down the system), I always tell them to keep their systems up-to-date. I even tell them that it can even be done automatically (I even make sure it's configurated to do it automatically), but they always manage to stop that service within days.
Best hope is that ISP's create special subscriptions for your average Joe, which has all ports (exept 80, 21, 443?) closed. Or forces it's users to surf through a proxy.
It's just to make the techies feel better about their precious Linux/Unix systems.
Forgetting that a whole lot of the IT industry makes money thanks to MS' (not always stable and reliable) software. What is there to support if nothing fails?
I think I know why. Techies can do the most wonderful things. But a desktop is nog only technical (under the hood), but also involves human psychology. What feels good to a typical person, looks good, sounds good, is intuïtive etc.
And that psychology insight is not one techies have.
What if...we found bacteria that would "eat" nuclear waste, and poop out a less harmful substance.
We could use them to clean our mess up, AND build _more_ nuclear reactors (until fusion is making an entrance).
I think the following happened:
Steve: -is calling, waiting for Bob to pick up, while waiting he said "blabla, bomb" to kid-
Bob: Picks up the phone, hears Steve talking to kid (but doesn't realise it's Steve), freaks, and runs
Steve: -Is like- "WTF?"
Such a raging succes that they're still totally communist states to this day. Oh wait.
Thank God. I thought I was the only one.
Except if you happen to run an Ati X800-series card :P
/. needs a "-1 STFU fanboi" mod-option. You guys are worse than former smokers.
if http://piro.sakura.ne.jp/xul/tabextensions/index.h tml.en will be available for it.
It's the only extension I use with FF.

It took quite some time till this obvious joke emerged.
So you're one of those ppl who chats with bots? :P
Statistics show that >72% of all statistics is considered useless.

People should try to adapt.
I'm sorry, I have to adapt to software? I thought it was the other way aroud.
Who said evolution is a pretty process?
Virtual Valerie is a REAL friend!!!!
And the best part is, after 9 months, you can pull the same prank :)

The costs of licensing is not such a big an issue. The cost of ownership the more. (the huge big ass Oracle databases excluded)

There is a slight difference in fixes and features.
I hope only as optional plug-in's. Want to keep my browser as light as possible.
