Some of those are emails that some spammer sent out using a return address of mailinator.com - those trigger our spam detection filter.
We're not mapping all the spam in the world, just the spam sent to mailinator. We get plenty of spam - we don't need more thanks. As of right now, "Mailinator has received 1341542 emails in the last 24hrs" - you can see this stat on the home page.

The spam we reject (after grabbing a few bits of nfo for the map). The actual data we use to make the map.

We're open to suggestions - got any good uses for the spam data? We get plenty - we get over a million emails a day and very little is NOT spam. What *should* we do with the data? Right now we map it and toss it. Ideas?

Hardware - heck I'm not sure of that - I'd have to let Paul answer that. I've only been on board about a month - I did the RSS feeds and the map.
Software - a custom, in-house, from-scratch java mail server (written by Paul). The webserver is Jetty.

That's it - and we don't even get that sometimes. I wish I could say we are rich beyond our wildest dreams, but the fact is it COSTS Paul money to keep Mailinator running. Over a million emails a day uses a fair amount of bandwidth/resources. I can't speak for Paul, but I did it just for fun and to add it to my resume.
We only show the top spammers and we classify spam a bit differently than most - we are all about self-preservation. If one guy sends a Viagra email, that isn't spam for us. If he sends 1000, it's spam. It's not about the subject, it's the volume.

We only show the TOP spammers in the system at the time the map data is output. Our algorithms to determine what is spam are more about self-preservation than catching pottywords.

We, the mailinator developers, but a random "funny" marker on the map each time. That's one of them.
I have listened to all of Earthcore and The Pocket and The Pendant - both were EXCELLENT Sci-Fi stories. P&P has finished so you can download the entire story from the author's website. Earthcore is down to the last chapter so you can download all of it til now from the author's website then grab the last chapter when it comes out.

They are on clearance in the store. The website still lists them at regular price. You must go to a WalMart or Target near you and look in the clearance section. I bought 3 from my local WalMart and I went by Target this past weeken and the yare on clearance there.

I don't know where you get your information, but it does NOT play movies off of an SD card. I have had 3 juiceboxes for a few months now - I should know. it plays *MP3s* off the SD cards, not movies. See this site for more info on the hacking progress.
We want to be able to play movies off the SD cards. That is exactly why we need some hacker to figure out how to make it play our own movies off of the SD card. The video quality is not bad at all IMHO. Yeah, it's not a PSP, but for $23 ($12.50 for the box and $11.50 for the MP3 adapter) it's pretty darn good. If we could make it play our own videos, then $23 is DEFINITELY worth the price.
Even if nobody figures it out, it's a damn good deal for a portable MP3 player WITH BUILT IN SPEAKER. It's like a portable radio - I can't think of ANY other portable MP3 players that have a built-in speaker and it's hard to find *any* MP3 player for $23.
Same here. The larger Xbox controllers are much more comfortable for me and I don't think I have Sasquatch hands. The S-controllers make my hands hurt.
And don't forget, the box-office smash "We Don't Need No Stinking Commas!"
That's nothing - check out this computer/programming board game from 1977 - Computer Rage.

I have been playing with it for about a week and Florida shows up now and then. By far most spam for Mailinator comes form the NE USA.
We threw in a couple joke locations just for fun. The algorithm is sound.
As the writer of the mapcode, I can confirm...yes, tehre are a few random funny ones thrown in there for giggles. brian
Use one of mailinator's alternate domains!
