I'll admit, i'm not hard to please when it comes to movies but if _I_ can tell a person is acting and their performance doesn't suck me into the film then I generally don't like the movie.

He is a good actor, he does most of his own stunts, some of which are pretty damn scarey. I think some people hate certain performers not because they aren't good but because deep down somehwere they are jealous somehow and it builds resentment.

Face it, these guys have made 10's of millions of dollars.. If they were that bad people wouldn't turn out to see the movies. You can preach about your indie films all you want but the basic fact is most of them are artsy fartsy and suck. I go to a movie to be entertained, if I wanted a higher enlightenment i'd choose another activity.

As a DBA I face the same type of thing every day. When setting up a server I ask for their tolerance of downtime and suggest solutions. If they aren't willing to 'pay' for those features then thats their call.

Also, why were the cellphones banned? Is there sensitive work done onsite? Are they afraid of the new cellphones with built in cameras? Does it interfere with some electronics? There may be a valid reason behind the ban.

As long as your ass is covered (ie, you explained the situation to managment) then whats the problem? Are alpha-numeric pagers banned as well? Why not pick up one of those? You can still get your alerts and friends can still contact you.

Now, alot of people were in manufacturing and never touched an app that accessed a database.

Now, thats not the case in California but its also common for sales people to toss in extra seats to sweeten the deal and to account for future growth. Did they pay too much? He's also very entertaining to listen to... At openworld I always look forward to his keynote.. It usually has a mix of comedy and bashing other vendors (mostly MS but a few jabs at IBM).

Another thing I like about Oracle is that they are pushing Linux in the Business world. If it wasn't for them there would be no way I could get linux in at my company. Having one point of contact for my linux and oracle issues is pricesless and makes linux easier to sell to management.

I see some responses saying how their job in IT is stressful and thats just baloney. If you know your job and can do it properly then you shouldn't be stressed out. If you are, then there are some personal issues you should seek help for.

The only job that should cause you stress is one where your personal safety is at risk such as a firefighter, police officer, in the military, etc.. The other big problem I had was I could get code to work fine in one browser (it was a simple applet) but other browsers and their plugins would have different issues.

I'll admit, i'm not a professional programmer (DBA) but I have a CS background and just do this stuff for fun but I ran into alot of issues that I though Java was supposed to solve. If your developing an application (not talkigna bout jsp and servlets here but applets or straight java 2/3tier apps) as long as you can specify which browser and JRE to use your fine but once you try and support different variations your asking for trouble.
