  1. I have a new idea for a Patent on Transparent Web Caching Patented · · Score: 5, Funny

I am patenting a system for the moderation of online discussion boards using different models of messages and a scoring system that can allow users to browse only high-rated or sometimes-funny but nefariously modded down posts.

    They will range like so:
    Insightful
    Funny
    Offtopic
    Troll
    Informati ve
    Flamebait

The scoring will range from a -2 though 5 basis, users may boost certain catagories of messages by as many points as they want, further allowing them to see what they want to see.

This system is free to use, but you must agree to the EULA

    EULA:

Me ( Eric(b0mb)dennis ) hereby reserves the right to freely use any property you own, including, but not limited to:
Kitchen and/or pantry (I need to eat)
Toiletry (The bush just aint cutting it anymore)
Your personal computer(s) (My name is Juan and I am posting this message from a chicken coupe in The Country formally known as Iraq, i am using RFC 1149 in conjunction with a new form of animal telepathy to post this message -=patent pending=-)

I also reserve the right to change the moderation of any post I see fit.. (This should be modded +5 Troll, if it's not done, expect some SCO action on your butt)

Thank you, and please be sure to invite me over for dinner... 50,000 Dinas isn't even buying me a zucchini anymore

  2. Great idea.. if implemented right on Pioneer To Release TiVo/DVD Burner Combo · · Score: 4, Interesting

This is a great idea, but it really depends on how well the implement the DVD burning from the harddrive.. This will need to have editing options to cut out commercials.. and that will bringe a whole wave of trouble onto the makers... replay TV fiasco, anyone? The real ticket would be fully editable shows, networking capability (at least 1394... that would be neat.. would encourage people to buy this instead of just a stand alone DVD recorder) Transfering all those babylon 5 SVCDs to this then burning them would be pretty sweet...

First of all, to even get a donor face, you'd have to take it from a dead donor (Doh, but it's not like with kidneys.. where you can give one and still live a normal.. or at least semi-normal life) And think of how reluctant the loved ones of said donor might be to transplant a face.. even though it wouldn't really be transforming him into the other guy... you can still see how a family might react..

  17. Re:Donnie Darko on What Makes Great Science Fiction? · · Score: 1

Exactly! To each there own, I guess :) But the questions and paradoxes are what I love so much... A movie that leaves me thinking about it and contemplating it for a while after it's over... open ended movies are great.. Sort of like the feeling I got when I watched Vanilla Sky.... The whole.. was he dreaming the whole time, was it the future.. et cetera

  18. Re:Donnie Darko on What Makes Great Science Fiction? · · Score: 1

Erm, the tangent universe was created by a fluke in space-time which came from a future that wasn't supposed to happen. It would have still existed, even if he died. And when it collapsed, a black hole would have been created, ending all of existence... Read the book on the DVD, "The Philosophy of Time Travel" It explains it rather well... It would have happened, donnie was just the 'chosen one' so to speak, that had to put things back into place... The airplane engine was just the artifact, and the rabbit was frank, the manipulated dead.... et cetera..

  19. Re:Donnie Darko on What Makes Great Science Fiction? · · Score: 1

Erm... I don't think you quite understand the concept of the movie.

He was never forced to do anything, nor was his death the salvation of his 'little town'

Though his actions, he prevented the destruction of the entire universe (Space-time collapsing.) It really makes you think about hte every action has a reaction kind of thing..

But then again... who has yet to make a movie with any time travel without some sort of paradox?

Well, as far as books go, I'd have to say the Dune series by Frank Herbert (ALthough, I'm sure you all know that) The way it so elegantly combines action, suspence, twisty curvey plots within plots that actually require one to think... but the prequels... they are just pieces of crap that are poorly written..

As far as movies go... Donnie Darko, although not blatently science fiction, is one great piece of film... you should all watch it...

The problem is... the client keeps track of the player's specail blocks, score, et cetera... which lead to rampant cheating (Just basic editing of memory locations..) Which kind of ruins it..
