  1. Now I want to read the book. on 30 Years of Adventure: A Celebration of D&D · · Score: 1

I'm not sure if the review was an exercise in reverse psycology. I don't like rpgs. But man that review went to such lengths to bash it, it makes me want to pick up the book, just so I could figure out if he's really anal, or if the book is that bad. In the future, he might not want to focus so much on the presentation and provide some review of the context. In all, I feel sad for the reviewer. I think this review might be a call for help.

It may sound silly, but I know a lot of clueless parents who don't realise how graphic some of these games are. While the ideal parent would be involved enough in their childs life to montier thier video games personally, many do not have the luxuary of the time required. So hopefully groups like this do cause parents of young impressionable children to take *some* time and look at what their kids are playing.

I think I need to popularise a law dictating the truth about backups and medium used for them. Henceforth, It shall be called Bill's Law:

By the time backup media that is large enough to back up your current hard drive is cheap, you will have upgraded to a new hard drive with a capacity such that it will no longer be practical to back up with that media.

Ok the phrasing needs some work, but thats certainly been mycase. When I had a hard drive that was only four gigs, cd-r's looked perfect. It would only take six of them. By the time I got one I had a 30 gig hard drive. But then it looks like dvd-r's will work as a back up. By the time I get one my hard drive is 250 gigs. So by the time I get a Recordable Blue Ray that stores 500 gigs I'm sure I'll have a 30 terrabye drive.

  10. Hmmm.. on Microsoft Patents 'IsNot', Enlists WTO · · Score: 1

I'll have to think about that more, but intially it sounds like a brilliant idea. Ok, here come my counter arguments. If they aren't going to be allowed to patent anything, then they won't. That might be a problem. One of the benifits of the patent system is that a company completely explains the innovation, so that when the patent does expire anyone can easily implement it. While it might not be an issue with such a trivial idea such as the IsNot operator, it might be a huge problem in the semiconducter industry. So the monopoly might continue to come up with new ideas, they just won't tell anyone how they did anything. Then society will lose out as the information won't be shared.

I'll expect very detailed answers since you have obviously used both and are forming your conclusions based on fact. And I'll pretend like I don't already know it all comes down to the fact that it is cheaper.

You *do* realise that we are talking about personal opinions of user interfaces. Right? I don't like the wheel. I do like being able to quickly change the battery on the Zen. So the price difference was enough to convince me, despite the inferior music playing software of Creative. I Don't really need to be able to transfer music back and forth, except when I buy new cd's.

Something like that would have to be tested in a more controlled enviorment for a couple of years before being unleashed upon the populace. If its such a fundemental change, then it couldn't be dropped in to a production quality language.
