They don't steal the CPU's cycles like you think. The GPU of the Nforce motherboards is integerated into the northbridge. It doesn't tie up the CPU any more that a gforce 2 does, Except that it doesn't have its own memory. Thats the killer. It has to share memory with the main system. That might also steal some cpu cycles, but my point is that the cpu isn't doing the graphics work.
Well, yeah, but it means so much more comming from a reputable source. Its not just some dude, complaining about the evils of the RIAA. Things always mean a heck of a lot more when people who know what they are saying say it.
The first time I read it as "Evil" flag. I think there should be an evil distro, to compete with *BSD the operating system that keeps coming back from the dead and has a demonic icon.
If you don't agree with half of the positions of either party then you can understand how someone could say " they are just as bad" as each other. As another poster pointed out they didn't say they weren't different, just that one wasn't any better than the other.
If I had an Idea, I could submit said Idea in hope of gaining a prize. That is a great idea. To reiterate, my idea is to have an idea to submit. With the Nasa prise as further encouragement, there's no telling how far my ideas could go. I could even come up with an idea so ingenous that it could create other ingeneous ideas in other people just by having them think about it. Now that's a brilliant idea. Of course the idea could become so powerful it would take over scandanavia, but I'm willing to accept that probible outcome. Heck, it beats Canada.
The values you sight are indeed valuable and they do "count" for many christians. I'd love to have a national health care program that was affordable. I'd love to see an end to poverty. Those would be great things. I don't know why the republican leadership does not see those as values. However, I will let you in on a little secreat. Some values are more important than others.
Like free ITMS songs are valuable, but not as valuable a national health care system.
Ok, get the idea? Now, lets continue.
National Health care is valuable, but not as valuable as an end to abortion.
Now, not everyone beleives that abortion is murder, but you should be able to grasp why Bush won on values. The values that he cares about are more valuable to Americans that the values that Kerry was promoting. I really hate the War in Iraq and many other bush polocies, but he represents the only hope of ending the sensless slaughter of the innocent.
It still hasn't been tested you know. Its an interesting mathematical model of how our universe *might* work. Its very cool and very interesting but no one really knows if it describes reality.
Thats the point. You might not need to do it very often, but when you do, for whatever reason, its simple. That is the point. Maybe it doens't matter to you, but it does to other people. Its sort of like me disparaging the usefullness of an airbag, because I've never needed one. Probely because I'm the best driver in the world, and so are all of my friends.
I encode all my cd's as BIl's. I didn't like ogg, wma, mp3, aac, flac ect. So I wrote my own damn file format. I won't buy a player until it lets me load my own codac in. Whats the point of having a closed source player play an open sourced codac? If they were both open we wouldn't have this problem!
Well, I guess "tricking" them isn't quite the correct word. You'll have to forgive me, I was on a roll. You have to convince them that you will increase their capital more than you will remove through your salary. It has to be a mutually benificial.
Its not that far form raw capitalism over all, however there are a few industries that are far from it.
Maybe the comparison isn't that far off. But, I still think that there is a difference between sitting around and laughing at people starving to death and mass murder. If there really isn't a difference then the first post should have been moderated "insightful" instead of "funny". But you can't expect everyone to be up on the shinanagans of monsanto.
Capitalism is based on... Capital. So, inorder to Compete you must have capital. That is the overiding theme. If you don't have capital, you really only have one option. You must trick someone else into using theirs to get some for yourself. This usually accomplished through employment. However, as you stated it can be very difficult to do. Raw capitalism, which we seem to have formed, can be very cruel. The great challenge of this centry will be to see how we can keep most of the efficencies of capitalism, while introducing some of our values into the decision making process.
The difference between the two is one is a company whose policies lead to bad things, and the other that *does* bad things directly. Soccio-economic factors cannot be blamed for the actions of Cartels, without blaming them for Monsanto's. I've always believed that killing someone is much worse than not giving him food, altough they may lead to the same result. The big problem with America, and Eupore today is that they don't recognise sins of ommission as sins. Don't misunderstand me, I think what monsanto does is evil, but its not the same type of direct evil as a drug cartel. I think that is a very important disctinction that too many people don't make.
I know you aren't serious, but thats in really bad taste. Cartels are the purest form of evil we have in existence today. I would agree that monsanto has done a few evil things, but they realistically aren't in the same ballpark. Its obvious that you don't have any Colombian friends.
You are correct, Europe and the US have seperated ideologically. And as you state, "respect" is in short supply. But, rather than "whine" about how wrong the "others" are, why not try to gain some fundemental understanding of why people think the way they do. Far too many people in this country ( USA) and across the world get caught up in this "Us" versus "Them" mentality without even stopping to debate the real issues at hand. I had hoped that slashdot's political section would be a place for such a dialog to take place, but it seems that we get the same crud here as everywhere else.
In a recent survey, it was found that equal numbers of airplanes and boats were sold during the same period. This proves that they are infact the same item. If there was a clear difference, it would be easy for ad execs to deliver that message about the item, and if people agreed, they would support it by buying a larger quantity.
Everyone who has attended public school since 1970, maybe. That leaves out a lot of voters. My parents (baby Boomers)never had scantron. My Grandparents certanly never did. My parents have since learned, my grandparents cannot. I don't mean to insult senoir citizens, but as we all get older our eyes get worse. They have problems with daily tasks that are much more important to their quality of lives that are much more embarsising than not being able to figure out scantron. So is there a better practical solution that will help the elderly/ disabled vote? I don't know. But scantron doesn't work well for them.
I think all cigaretes taste like Sh*t. Its a shame really, cause man they make you look cool. I allways thought I'd grow up to be a smoker. Its just one of those manly things that make us think that we're cool and sophsiticated. I guess I'm neither manly or sophisticated. Oh well, I guess I'll just have to live a little longer and marry a wife who just wants me for my mind. Sigh...
RADAR TECH. Sir. The radar, sir. It appears to

Jam starts dripping down the screen.
RADAR TECH.....jammed.
HELMET Jammed? (takes a taste of the jam) Raspberry.
There's only one man who would dare give me the raspberry. (pulls down
mask) Lone Starr!
GWB campiagned 4 years ago arguing the same set of policies as you are proposing. However, all of that changed you know when.
I think the real unresolved issues today are all concerning what we should do when we encounter injustices in the world. Should we just stick our heads in the sand and pretend they don't exist? Or try to use international organisations to resolve them? Or should we take care of them ourselves?
And then in what manner should we take care of them? Economic Sanctions, Negotiations, or Military Force? Under what circumstances are each one apporpriate?
How big does a crisis have to become before we get involved? How many people must suffer? Do we have different standards for different reigons of the world? Should we?
I'm not trying to troll, but many people make this mistake. Next time you think about migrating to a product, visit the products website to research what the latest production release is and look at a product roadmap to see if it would be worth wile to wait until a newer version becomes availiable. Then after you have done all of the research, you can present your findings to your higher ups in a manner that allows them to make an informed choice. That works wonders.
I never said you were wrong. You're taking my reactions the wrong way. So; I appologise. Obviously; you are right. But its a joke. You pointed out an gramatical error in a joke on Slashdot. How can that be taken seriously? When you responded to my joke seriously; I responded with another joke. Lighten up. Its Slashdot. Don't take everything so seriously. Maybe you didn't find any of my jokes funny. Ok; thats fine. Critisism accepted. I'll try better next time.

I think thats the most appropriate moderation I've ever recieved on slashdot.

How do you know HL2 is great?
