I had the original Pentium 60Mhz, and Intel replaced mine without any question. It even paid the shipping fees. (I was wishing Intel would send me a faster chip too, but I guess I was asking too much.)

It is ready to use but not all of the features are. For example the spell checker and grammar checker are loaded after you can start typing. And I supposed the wizards, option dialogs, file convertors, etc. aren't loaded before they are actually activated by the user. It is a simple logic to speed up start time by loaded only what is needed.

  5. my experience on Leveraging Linux when Hardware is a Commodity? · · Score: -1, Offtopic

I just installed Mandrake 10 on my NEC Versa laptop for a few days, and I've discovered several pieces of my hardware don't work:
    - Saitrk P750 USB gamepad
    - Creative Nomad Zen NX
    - PCMCIA CompactFlash card reader
    - built-in SD and memorystick slots

All of them work fine with Windows XP, but I can't get them to work at all in Linux. So now I just have to rely on dual boot when I want to use the hardware.

I just wish those companies would release drivers for Linux.

Can save energy with other components too, for example the supposedly great OLED display, new energy-saving CPU, or even a more efficient OS. Or perhaps somebody can make a harddisk less power hungry.

  7. storage for my camera on 1.8" USB Portable Hard Drive · · Score: 3, Interesting

That tiny harddisk sounds nice, but I wish it will have USB host or Compact Flash card reader so I can transfer all the photos from my digital camera to the harddisk. Large CF or microdrives are too expensive, and this sounds like a much better solution.

DDR is not easy! It took me a lot of practicing to pass the first stage. By the way an hour of playing DDR is much more tiring than working out for an hour. However it is fun and even addictive so you'll keep on playing it.

"Their plan is simple. Give your Windows users applications which run on both Linux and Windows, teach them how to use them and when they are comfortable, replace the Operating System with Linux."

In my experience it is not as simple as that. Most people have resistance for change. When they have got used to one operating system it is not easy to teach them to do things in a different way. And Linux is still behind Windows in terms of usability, which I think should be the first priority for future Linux development.
