But the whole pricing fighting thing coming from the record industry is really helping Apple's credibility! Seriously, if it was Apple raising prices they'd have questions to deal with... No one likes the record industry but they have the best PR people in the world on their side generating good will(except perhaps the movie industry). Apple really needs something like the Kindle, perhaps a device that passively searches for wireless points when the user requests a song. Android of course is full of the potential for such things but there are other reasons Apple's fighting Google on that front.

Meh, music is close enough to on demand... more important right now is the lack of anything to listen to. Downloaded 5 top 100 compilations from various music critics, there's some interesting stuff going on in rap with Santogold, M.I.A. etc, but the whole genre is in danger of getting played out.

Aside from the content itself TV has a normalizing influence. It's a representation of our culture and the way people normally interact, if you know anyone with Autism you realize that there are many ways we could interact and that the definition of "normal" used for societal interaction is very limited (for more information on this see "dating").

It's constantly in flux like fashion and there are only so many ways to stay "current."

TV is also something of a "dream medium" in that you might not always know who you are but what you want can be quite clear, what you choose to watch on TV is a combination of what you wish you were doing coupled with the kind of people you'd like to be interacting with (generation, income, lifestyle, [I'll leave the implications of porn as an exercise for the reader] whatever)...

One critical phase is getting people to believe in your ideas.

People like grandiose ideas to get behind and to believe in someone they want them to be in some way better than they are.

A woman can meet a man think his idea is brilliant (and of course she already thought of it) but that his testosterone is what will make it successful in the world.

There are probably many encounters where you simply need to sell your idea.

Coding for example, if you have more than one person working on a project the amount of work produced is usually more than 2x the average skill level simply because you get multiple viewpoints on problems and an extra encyclopedia of libraries to draw on. Other skill sets such as web design and marketing are often needed to launch a an idea, sometimes people are able to bluff these skill sets but they are competing against corporations that have people with different skill sets for exactly this reason.

The first time you sell an idea it's to other people who will be working towards it and there's only so many times you can presell half the profits.

If you have a "great idea!" you can try and sell it, if you have the charisma and a solid grasp of the core skill set you may be able to make it work. Otherwise just be available to edit or give your thoughts on the projects of others, it's a good balance between offering your skill set/insight and getting involved in a bunch of projects which are unlikely to succeed. If you are constantly available to edit and help others with their projects. You might find some that you feel you simply must get involved in.

I'll trade some editing for some project design advice if anyone is down :)

"that knockoffs will work pretty much identically to an Android phone"

I had to comment on this plus +5.

Obviously once the software is all the same the devices will run almost identically, this is the whole point of open sourcing an operating system.

Once consumers can install any applications they want, and simply get a data plan, then all phones will work similarly (GTalk could win the IM/SMS format wars for example).

Complaining about similarity in phones is like suggesting that we're better off with seperate operating systems. All phones where you can install custom applications will be similar, and that will be a good thing.

Let's just hope the operating system they settle on is an Ubuntu 8.04 or OsX and not a Redhat 4.x or Windows.

I can't wait to buy an android phone and have my IM, email, ringtones, Skype etc all as part of my data plan (or available wherever wifi is, note to self: tell friends to open their WIFIs). I was very impressed with the dev kit and the demo videos I've seen, I expect to be recommending one to all my friends and family by christmas.

This is VERY good news for consumers and we should all make a point of supporting it.

Also kudos to Google for jumping the shark on the clone wars... it had to happen sometime and I'm glad Google has chosen to strike while the iron is hot and they still have the money to develop Apple (read iPhone) level hardware of their own. Clones are going to hurt Google's sales and their weird supplier contracts (read: Telus) but it will make things better for consumers and therefore for Google through customer choice.

This entire article is a cynical negative spin on a positive development.

$5000 to hybridize a vehicle isn't a bad price, hybrid sedans have a similar premium and are successful, it seems likely there are areas where hybridizing engines makes sense and this development allows the marketplace to find those areas.
