  5. Re:Who are "Shaw" and "Rogers"? on BitTorrent and End to End Encryption · · Score: 1

"Shaw" is predominantly in Western Canada, "Rogers" is predominantly in Eastern (i.e. Toronto as an example).

So what are your real options for example in Toronto? There's Rogers, which in my opinion has the best bandwidth (5000 / 800 with) with the $100 modem. And then there's one major DSL provider, and a crap load of other DSL providers that run on the major DSL provider's backbone. But in my opinion, Rogers is the fastest.

My torrents were throttled but I switched to BitComet and another port, and now they're fine.

Oh yeah, Rogers cancelled its Newsgroup access in December so they're getting rid of all these "unimportant" services but instead providing free anti virus downloads (like I give a flying fuck).

    9/11 affect on Contrails

After 9/11 happened all air traffic was grounded and the contrails that are created by airplanes dissipated. Temperatures went up but at night were generally cooler because the clouds trapped heat inside.

So if ONLY air traffic were to cease you would already see a difference in climate. I'm not an expert so I don't know whether or not this is good or bad, but seeing as this is a human created phenomenon I'm assuming that it would improve the balance of the earth's climate.

I've seen viruses or whatever hijack other people's IE options. For example, disabling the ability to change the security level etc. Couldn't find a way to fix it quickly (i.e. uninstalling IE) so you have to reformat the entire OS. Whereas if Firefox were hijacked you could just uninstall it and use something else.

  21. This shouldn't apply to all DJs on Digital DJs Unaware of Copyright Law · · Score: 1

Not all DJs are playing music by RIAA or PPL artists or the equivalent of that in the UK, and if they are they should just boycot those artists and record companies.

Many DJs playing electronic music often play their own tracks, or their friends tracks, or some unknown music producer or some local music producer who isn't going to be angry that his tracks are being played in clubs. And what about vinyl? It said only digital but it's just a different medium?

This includes legally-purchased downloads, which are normally licensed only for personal use, as well as copies of tracks from records or CDs.

You know...vinyl also is licensed for personal use, why should it be different? I think the artists part of the PPL should rectify this situation because often times the way they get popular is by DJs playing their tracks in clubs. So I see that this already has a lot of problems.

Trust issues aside, maybe it's time to teach your son about encryption and the stupidity of using a public forum for buying illegal drugs.

    I'm being serious here.

Regardless of your disapproval for such a thing, regardless of whether or not he will stop because of your wishes, he has to learn to be a little more discreet, a criminal record is something you wouldn't want your son to experience as it can hamper him in his future job opportunities and across the border travel.

If you can hack into his account and see exactly what goes on with his other buddies, don't think that it's difficult for that same kid to get arrested for having a picture of a pound of weed, have his computer confiscated, and then have the police go through his conversations with his other friends who'll he will easily rat out for a slap on the wrist.
