Where on Earth did you get the idea you need to get a new ISO to update your system?
Suffice to say, you don't. If you're online you can download not only rpm packages and slack packages but debian packages, source....
For the record, my first ever Linux install was a painful download of some fifteen Slackware floppy disks. The install itself however was about as comfortable as a floppy install can be. The point is, I didn't have then, nor now do I have to download a whole ISO at any time, though one comes in handy.
I have no doubt at all that the honourable post would be heavily conteseted for should that be the case. Not like there aren't any slack users that don't know how to maintain the distro.
Cool - thanks. Do you know / think it will work with NiftyTelnet + MI/X on a Mac? I use the mac at work with is behind a nat to my linux box at home, which gets a dynamic ip behind dialup.
I'm curious as to what network layer this ssh tunnelling is done. I'll give it a try next week, I was already in the throes of setting up a vncserver, seemed easier.
Yes but because of frequent "exposures" - where a window is closed revealing some other window or desktop picture etc, the server contacts client in order to redraw for example.
Some of this work is better handled locally by caching large bitmaps and some code etc.
What would be cool also would be if you could use X over a single connection from your local machine to another, so you can use it from an rfc1918 address behind NAT to the "server", without having to set up tunnelling.
Another possibility is that the Matrix and the "real world" are both matrices, as you posit, but that Neo is in fact a program which has been developed to try to reach true AI, including emotions.
I hope they didn't use any SCO code. Maybe that's what Smith's after after all...
I think maybe somebody that shouldn't have got mod points, I've seen plenty of posts modded down flamebait or offtopic which were neither. Don't worry, you might get pushed back up.
I was expecting you to say "City baths? What the fuck, this _is_ Slashdot! There was an nzherald article on it but so far I haven't got google to turn it up.
Just had to post to agree with you, even though it doesn't have much to do with the topic. I got a mint condition Sparc 20 earlier this year, and boy are they a well designed box.
Not too snappy in terms of todays computing, but the hardware is still just as good as it always was. It's not too late my friend! You can still find good SS20's around, I don't know what you were thinking when you got rid of it. Actually, I think I'll add you to my foes list for that.
...showed that among 30 different CD-R brands tested, a lot of them were already unreadable after twenty months.(emph. mine)
I don't recall reading "we found not one person had more than 500 CD-R's in their room", nor did I read "not one CD-R was found to be readable after twenty months".
Elitist bastards didn't even include a conversion for the "less gifted"
Read your comment again, there was no maybe about it. While I don't entirely agree with "Flamebait" mod, I certainly can't see your comment getting modded UP.
Sure you've never heard of such a thing. Great, if only every slashdotter commented on things they haven't heard of if only to say "gee I haven't heard of that".
Comments like this are a good candidate for the "overrated" mod. It indemnifies the modder of any "unfair" m2'ing, while knocking your "contribution" down where it belongs.
In turn, I'll get a flamebait for pointing this out to you, but I don't give a fuck. In the words of many before me: "Suck it up, bitch".

And I can't believe they took it out, just so as not to confuse noobs. I mean come on, it's in the FAQ! Now there's no point in it being in the FAQ because it's not in the kernel!
Now you're right, and I'm not arguing with you, but:
..that just because you're not using Outlook or Outlook Express, you still may be vulnerable to worms or email viruses?
(Emphasis mine) - That about sums it up actually.
If you're running Outlook, you're pretty bloody vulnerable to all sorts of attacks. You have been in the past, and my money is on the fact you will again be in the future.
Not using Outlook goes a bloody long way to reducing your vulnerability.
Not even using Windows means less viruses (queue spelling flamewar) that run on your platform for a start. And again:
..that just because you're not using Outlook or Outlook Express, you still may be vulnerable to worms or email viruses
Never forget this. Ditching Windows won't guarantee you virus-free running. It takes the likelihood of it in the direction of "Oh my god I won first division in the lottery!" | #include "hit_by_bus_on_quiet_street_story.h".
Why ask the user to click on something when you can just embed the same info in an img url?
Because the default in my email client (and hopefully yours) is not to fetch anything referred to in an html document, like images, popup javascript etc - bacause that's the oldest trick in the book to verify email addresses without the users intervention. Links, however are still displayed in case they are useful and without malice.
So you still have the course of social engineerng to get the user to click the link at least.

I meant to say:
9k6 means 9600, not 9006. The multiplier takes place of the decimal point. 9600
= 9.6 thousand
= 9.6 k
= 9k6 bits per second.
You're one of those people who writes "2k3" to mean "2003 AD" aren't you?

actually its 1730 results - those three had replied to the post without chancing the subject line while talking about how their machine never crashes
In fact, he won't get any karma anyway. "Funny" is now a karma-free mod. Sorry I can't give you a link.

Here in New Zealand they've actually banned cellphones from the city baths owing to much picture taking in the changing rooms.

Thanks very much for the tip, was about to try a 2.6 on the sparc. Have been very happy since 2.4.21 when sparc smp started working really well.
