Oh, yeah... That soundbite still gives me the creeps:D
Another really distinctive sound is the "thunk" sound from the Diablo games. Hell... just about any sound from any Blizzard game, actually. And the sounds from Doom! Especially the Cyber-Demon's footstep sound... Everytime you heard it, you knew you were in deep shit. The "M-M-M-M-MONSTER KILL" announcer from Unreal Tournament was kinda memorable, too. And the Super Mario games! The "red-and-white mushroom sound" and the "down the tube"-sounds are stuck in my memory forever.
Not sound per se, but the music from Terminal Velocity was really good too, and there were a few really good sound effects too.
I guess that just about every game I have ever played has left some significant bit of its sounds in my head. That would explain quite a bit, actually;)
A kind of crash recovery like Opera has. If the browser (or the computer) crashes, the next time you start Opera it will ask you if you would like to return to where you were when the crash happened.
I really, really like Phoenix, but Opera feels just a tad more polished and complete to me, which is why I use it.
I recently purchased an Acer AL732, and I find it quite good for gaming.
It's 17", does 1280x1024 and the refresh time is 16ms (which equals ~60 fps). Apart from it having a "locked" resoloution (it does a good job on stretching lower res stuff, though) I find it to be very comfortable, not to mention the fact that it's a helluva lot smaller depth-wise than my old 19" Targa monster.
It accepts VGA, DVI, S-Video and Composite (I have it hooked up to a VCR, too) and it even has tiny little CRT iMac-style speakers built in. (All types of cable, apart from DVI, are included)
Suppose you unpack it in the store where you bought it (as long as you didn't buy it online), and do the "never boot into Windows" thing, and proceed to install your choice of open source OS.
In theory, as long as one the store staff agrees to become a "witness", it should be OK.
There is little, if any at all, difference for me. I just happen to use my left hand because of mouse cord restraints. But for FPS games, I can't use my right hand for the mouse, mostly because I can't use my left hand for the WASD keys. I always use a homebrew IJKL layout.
I don't really know why I can't use my left hand for WASD, but I guess it's got something to do with playing lots and lots of platform games as a kid (Commander Keen! Duke Nukem! Dangerous Dave! Crystal Caves! etc etc...)

This little beauty has an AMI BIOS. The machine I'm using right now has one, and it's a very, very nice motherboard.
Of course, for intranets, you would probably want an Obi LAN Server Mask ;)
You know what "redundant" means, right?
(Sorry, couldn't help it)
"Ah well I'll just get a K9 cpu..."
;)
But as you've already guessed... It's gonna run like a dog
BADAM-BISH!
x86-64 runs 32-bit code at full speed, so no problems running both 32- and 64-bit code on the same machine.
Hey now!
;)
If you tweak it a bit you could make it a very cool spinner for classic games like Tempest
Sadly, yes... :(
Ah, well... There's always another keyboard, right?
Congratulations!
You've just won half a litre of cola, just recently shot through a human nose.
I've seen one really nice feature in 2.6. Well, for me and possibly 5 other people ;)
My USB memory stick finally works!
He's cool, that's why. Everything he does, he does with style and flair.
He's just... groovy. And cool.
"I was in the war!"
;)
Gotta love those easy-to-hit old hags

You just described my whole family :)
We've never had any diseases more serious than the flu in our family, and none of us are allergic to anything.
My parents were always very insistent that I went outside at least 2 hours each day. Back then it was annoying, but I thank them for it now.
EvilWM is as minimalist as you're gonna get...
The source tarball is 27KB or such.
Well... A trackball and a good joystick with lots of buttons could be a suitable keyboard/mouse replacement.
The trackball for aiming and the joystick for moving and stuff.
www.clana3d.org has some good posts in their forum, although they aren't really all that active anymore.
That's another thing Phoenix needs.

Nope...
The FreeDOS people have stated that they want absolutely nothing to do with MS-DOS code.

More info
I believe that TCP/IP works for local area networks in this version, although I haven't tried it (yet!)
I'm pretty certaion it wouldn't work, unless you installed in on a faster machine and put the hard drive in the Pentium 166.
AFAIK, WinXP won't install on anything slower than 200 (266?) MHz.
(Not that I care... I use Gentoo Linux and Win2K)
Well...

Disclaimer: I've never tried this.
Well, I guess I'm semi-ambidextrous.
