    I tried this in order to upgrade the version of Windows on my dual boot system to XP. Unfortunately, after the virus warning popped up twice, and I pressed the "any" key on my keyboard to acknowledge that I knew of the attempted write to my boot sector, the installer just puked and and had to let the damn thing trash my boot sector and then restore it manually.

    What? Teres a previaew button.?

    The amount of tax on paying tax would be A/(100%-x) where x is the rate of taxation and A is the amount of tax originally paid.

    An old version of Doom for Windows that I have automatically installs DirectX without asking. I think that it's actually DirectX, not DirectX 3, DirectX 5, DirectX 9, or whatever.

    That's a great point you make, but be aware that some companies are already taking countermeasures against this technique. I've seen this done with many websites that require a subscription.

    Here's how it works. Many of you have probably seen this before. "Please enter your e-mail address so that we may spam you mercilessly: getALife@blank_you.com. Thank you, an activation code will be sent to you shortly at the address you specified; thank you for downloading our spam-ware."

    The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.

    That's exactly how it reads, everyone. I think it get's trampled over on a regular basis. It ought to go right out the door right after pesky Ammendments #1 and #2.

    I don't think that's a very tough situation at all. They would impose a stiff penalty when you got caught. How would they catch you? Imagine a routine traffic stop.

    "Excuse me sir, I'll need to see your license, registration, and your GPS number, please."

    So, to register the car in the state you have to have GPS installed? I suppose that makes it better for tourists than taxing the gas (or do they plan on doing both?)



    Of course they plan on doing both. I can imagine that many of you on this board will think I'm nuts, but keep in mind we're talking about left-coast liberals here. Liberals never reduce taxes on anything. There is no limit as to how far they will go to control us, snoop on us, and take our money at the same time. I, too, am glad that I don't live in Oregon.
    Anyway you look at it, this looks like A Bad Thing.
