If the three of them would start a company and have them do news all over the world, they could shut down the likes of whiney little murdochs. Basically, Murdoch has not figured out how to run a PROFITABLE business on-line. BUT, the big three probably can do it. Ideally, they would provide the news on much lower-cost digital readers.
The industry has been hostile to new development for years. Eolas MAY end up being the best guys possible. The reason is that they will get the patent laws looked at for what they are: INSANE. All that is needed is for more of the companies to hit Senators, Congressmen AND Obama, and then MAYBE, just MAYBE, we can get a sane solution.

I would guess that at least 30 ppl a year die JUST in America JUST from eating EGGS that were infected with salmonella. Throw in bad chicken (kept too long in freezer; yes, salmonella grows slowly on chicken in freezer; don't believe it? Put a black light on a chiken that has in the freezer for about years; the glow is salmonella) and we probaby jump that to at least 100 or even 1000. Around the world, it is certainly MUCH MUCH higher.
In addition, in terms of dollars spent for health care with it, it is one of the larger ones. Get salmonella and dehydration becomes a real issue in third-world nations. Many of the children that die in these nations will die from dehydration, but it is unknown from what disease. Salmonella is one of those.
I think it's a good thing that NASA has the federal funding to focus on science rather than having to rent themselves out as a space taxi for the rich for funding. If private companies want to invest in space tourism, that's their prerogative. That's not what NASA was created for. If anything, they should stick to developing cutting-edge technology (which eventually gets passed down to the civilian sector after they've matured and decreased in cost) and leave the commercialization of space to the private sector.
Actually, I agree with much of what you say, with one exception. I would love to see the dems increase privatization increases for a couple of year. In particular, if NASA would spend another.5B on another round of COTs, we could get several human rated ships within 3 years (boeing and Scaled doing SS3). THe problem is that there needs to be other places besides NASA to make money; IOW, we need bigelow moving forward. The way to move them, is for us to buy several of their units and attach it to the ISS. If we buy a sundancer, followed by a BA-330, we could bump up ISS quickly and easily. In addition, it gets Bigelow started and primed so that in 2011, they are ready to go with several systems.
Finally, we need a way to move systems around. The only way is with a tug. If we offer up several contracts for tugs, then we get the industry moving forward. The tugs can be used for a number of things: Sat. fixes; Cleaning up junk; Handling the ISS. BUT, the important one is that the tug would then be used to move systems to/from the moon.
For less than a couple of billion dollars, we could shot for the moon by 2017 (maybe sooner).
Consider that very few ppl had any knowledge of what would happen in 1945, I would say that even most in Nagasaki would argue that America can be trusted as much as the others (which is not that much). OTH, Japan appears to have had secret agreements in place with America that allowed us to quietly bring nukes into Japan's harbor and keep japan protected.
Land in China does not cost the same price as in CA. Likewise, most places have stable land. This will require special construction to keep the train from jumping the track when one of their earthquake comes. And it costs money to build new stations. I suspect that if you look in EU, you will find that trains there who build on new lines costs more than 25B euro/mile.

Yes, but that is quite different. That has to have a big trace. OTH, this posting had nothing to do with printers/PDA/etc for drugs and legalities. It DID have everything to do with a PERSONAL printer. And for that, PDA's are replacing paper. What is needed is to simply not buy a printer. Once you have gone withit for a while, you will find that you have little need for it. I do currently have a printer (HP), but that is because I went through a very nasty 4 year long divorce and legal issues required loads of prints (if you think that pharmacy is behind times, look a lawyers; idiots). How much do we use it? Well, we have replaced the ink 3x and that is because it dried out every single time. No prints in between. More than likely I will see this printer (or give it away), buy a scanner and re-set up the modem for faxing with. Then my wife will simply use walgreens/walmart/target for any photo print needs that she has (higher quality anyways).
You do not have good enough insurance for eye exams. THis is for a PERSONAL printer, not office.
In addition, I have developed medical systems and worked in the medical world. Paper is NOT required. In fact, the opposite is true. The feds are now paying medical providers to drop all paper and be computerized.

Actually, you assume that is true. There may be other evidence that comes along the way and destroys that. One of the issues with anthropology is that new evidence (mostly via Archaeology and new sciences such as DNA) comes along that shifts assumptions. For example, it was assumed for nearly 100 years that dinosaurs were cold blooded and only in very recent times is it being thought that they were warmblooded. It is quite possible that we will think in another 30 years that man originated in Asia because of new fossils found in say China, and then we figure that all men descended from that area.
On several of the sites that I will post to, I will go nicer on a postback to ppl that I know. If somebody that I consider a friend zings me hard, I tend to assume that they are having a bad day. OTH, if a stranger hits me, OR if I decide to take time and check their history and find out that they are on the negative side, then I hit harder.
My guess is that this is true of everybody here, if they think about it.
Security for afterlife may be interesting. The more so if somebody thinks that their system or even the ram is bad. Unless it is physically ran through a fire, there will be something of use.
