I'm not certain I understand what's going on here though, as I wish RH would just support the same menu-editing functionality found in Ximian Desktop 2. It's not great, but at least it's possible.

What sickens me is that DVD-copying code (your words) is misleading. DVD-Reading code is more appropriate. The DVD has to be read and decrypted to be shown in your DVD player. I suggest reading a workaround to get transparent PNG's to work under IE.

For example, a client requirement was to make an applications title bar flash when a query was completed. I had to write code to support Win9x,WinME+NT4 and Win2K+XP.

The way that I read it is that you can still do this. It's just that IE 7 ships with Windows xxx and isn't available for previous MS OS's.

Just because a new browser is shipped with a new OS doesn't mean web developers have to do anything more or anything less - provided that HTTP_USER_AGENT string still informs us of the browser version.

This "cheat" affected image quality which is how it was first noticed. ATI quickly released new drivers which improved the image quality back to how it should look. And there wasn't any decrease in speed from the "cheating drivers". So in this instance nVidia are worse as they have yet to release a fixed driver or even admit what they did was wrong.

All IHV's provide per game "hints" to the driver of how to work for a give game as well as "hints" of how to work with an unknown game. But this is usually only for making the game work faster on their hardware - without sacrificing IQ - or working around game bugs with their driver.

Maybe everyone should take PowerVR's approach of exposing every driver hint through the registry in english language instead of hiding it in the driver itself.

Try using Refresh Force which directly alters the windows monitor information in the registry and removes every mode but the one you specify for each resolution. This allows games to run in any screen size at the requested refresh rate and not cause them to choke or crash. It's worked fine on all my cards so far (GeForces, Radeons, Kyros)

Besides, this is more of a windows quirk than a driver thing as MS requires the driver to behave like this to pass it's WHQL tests.

Why couldn't someone take the same approach and install sound FX units into each X-Wing/TIE Figher so that pilots could "hear" where craft were and what they were doing?

We see laser "beams" slowly travel from the cannon to the target. Sub-light speed light ?

In starwars II (old series) R2D2 solves several times computational problems which are NOT turing computable.
StarWars II was the new series - IV-VI were the old ones. As to R2D2, look at how far computers have come since conception. I really can't even to think about what they will be capable of by the time we've started to colonise the galaxy.

    Most alien creatures breate oxygen.
AFAIK, all creatures on Earth breath it as well - even the fish in the sea. They are as "alien" to us as we are to them.

When the Death Star fires, we see 3 laser beams "hitting" each other an send of a 4th one in a different direction.
Well, just whack a prism or similar at the point where the beams join and blamo - it could work. And as it's transparent, you didn't see it in the movie.

The Death Star has cooling shafts which have a direct connection to the vaccum, therefore have no air whatever for cooling in them.
Why does it have to be air? You do know that NASA space suits are very well insulated to stop there astronuts from freezing right?

Why does a movie have to be scientifically accurate? It's supposed to entertain you dammit. And little kiddies who you want to protect have vivid imaginations - something which you appear to have lost. Their imagination is often their freedom which you want to remove.

Outlaw inaccurate science fiction movies? Then there would be NO SF movies! Heck, whilst we're here let's outlaw ALL fiction because as it's fiction it can't possibly be true.

Your talking about borrowing good ideas from other things and amalgamating them into one thing.

So whats wrong with that? How many times do you buy a CD to find only 2 decent tracks? How many times have you seen a movie and it's been *yawn* seen it before except when this guy like ya know.

The Matrix doesn't bring many new idea's to the world of movies - it borrows heavily from many others.

But what it does do well it bring the majority of the good ideas into one well written story with a vast holywood budjet.

You may say that Keanu can't act - I say that they tailored the movie around him. I cite Tom Cruise in Interview with a Vampyre for another example of a movie working to an actors strong points - it's his best ever movie by far. Then again we have Top Gun, Days Of Thunder or Cocktail. No contest really.

I personally think the Matrix is cheese, it doesn't have a strong message, and is a little too melodramatic... in music, in story, in the overal mood of the movie. CHEESE..and not even real cheese, like cheeze in a can.

Why does a movie have to provide a message? The only message that the Matrix can say is the same as the WWE which is "Don't try this at home!"
