    Thats why I write programs - the satisfaction you get back from the client/users is almost as good as the pay-cheque when you do a job really well.

    I understand what you say though. I was what you may call a system admin for 3 years and really didn't like it. Programming simply rules.

    Fine and dandy. However, if you told a housewife of a low IQ that she was a Domestic Engineer she wouldn't understand what you meant. I would assume that most sanitation technicians and a fair chunk of administrative/personal assistants fall into the same category.

    So, in their eyes you're just a computer guy as they understand what a computer is.

    After thought: The definition of System you gave could just as easily apply to a family (housewife) or filing cabinet (secretary). So they're system administrators in their own right. To clarify, you're a Computer Systems Administrator

    (Appologies to garbage collectors as I can't think of a instance for a related system)

    Well, what about pre-release stuff with patch cables and such on the card? They could hardly re-sell it and they don't need it back as they have a finished product.

    And if you're reviewing media - like hard drives the fact that you've used it means that it's contaminated.

    However, I can assure you - at least in DH's case - there's no payola involved. Zardon had 2 days to review the card before sending it back. I've got some el cheapo kit I'm reviewing and I've gotta send that back as well.

    As an admin for DriverHeaven the only kinda freebies we get for reviewing products is the product itself - usually on loan.

    Payola? Damn - I really wish there was some!

    UT2003 should play nicely in Linux on it.

    If I had that card instead of Zardon, I would soon let you know. But I didn't get it, he did so I can't tell you.

    Maybe you should try out the new ATI Catalyst drivers then? They've proven to be fast and reliable for a year or so now. And yes, they have released a Linux XFree86 driver (binary only - but better than nothing). But this is pretty pointless as I doubt you have an ATI card anyways :p

    That's like saying people on 56k dialup who are online for about an hour a day on average don't need firewalls.

    Heck, I get a firewall up before I even think about going online!

  20. For the Karma and scripting engines on Infinite Games? · · Score: 1

    UT features one of the best scripting engines for games. UT2003 takes this and improves on it a fair bit. UT2003 also features the Karma physics engine, allowing for very life-like "Rag doll" effects.

    I'd say that UT2003 is the most advanced gaming platform available today and will probably remain this way for some time - or at least until DOOM3 comes out.

    BTW, if you were going to license a game engine for an AI project, which one would you choose and why?

    You're correct, but then Epic hired Dan Voguel from Loki before Loki went bust. Epic brought UT2003 to Linux by themselves.

    They also ship the Linux binaries on the 3rd CD that ships with the game. Hows that for a top selling game with Linux support straight out of the box eh?

    4. Intel Pro 10/100 card
    5. Adaptec 2940 SCSI card
    6. BlueTooth card

    I use all these cards at some time. OK, I could rationalise the network cards as I only use 1 at a time, but I don't really like opening up my case and swapping cards and stuff when I goto a LAN party (ethernet) or visit my parents (ISDN connection) and go back home (wifi).

    Also, I dont use the bluetooth card all the time - it's mainly to connx to my Palm and transfer pictures rarely to my phone for caller pictures ;)

    Even rarer I use my SCSI card as I'm now using IDE disks and CDR for backup. But I may need to plug in my external DDS-2 tape drive for an old file.

    I like all the cards there when I need em and dont want to be messing about changing them.

    So, yeah, I use all 6 slots. Guess I'll be sticking with my 9700 Pro :D

    Unfortunately, most of my friends use Outlook for Outlook Express which defaults to HTML emails for sending.

    I'd guess most of the Microsoft dominated world does as well....
