#3 was recognized as "get a job" by someones followup post, but I don't know if #2 was figured out.
Next time don't forget your resume and contact information, it makes it easier for us to get back with you. Oh, you might want to include salery requirements and relocation options also.
In the meantime, your worker desination will be: 009304039818-DRONE
Thank you for using the slashdot IT placement service, where: "A.C.'s comes first."
This is not a post against or for abortion, leave that at the door. This is about genetically choosing what embreyo will develop based on a genetic profile that will match a template free of deases and pestilence... I think they tried this in Germany once, but it was rather low-tech at the time, but towards the same results. Populace without blemish. A Supier Race of humans to lead into the future. Think about that...
Look, Here's the background: My wife and I got married and had a kid. (on/., right....) He had some "issues" but we worked with the doctors to figure things out. We still don't have a 100% match for the syndrome he has, but it is close to a few that usually are pretty bad with a whole host of bad things. At 4 years of age, he's been through a lot. Surgeries, etc.. Someone with genetic testing would of thrown his cells away or aborted him.
Oh, did I mention that he just recently had an IQ test as part of followup from his cranial surgery. It seems he is IQ'd at 131 and may have to be refered to special schools because he's genious range.
So, I put forth that genetic testings is not worth squat. It may tell you what could happen, but it cannot predict in any way how smart the end person would be. I'll take my son who will know more than I ever will, but be challenged vs. a "normal" kid with a "normal" IQ. It makes you wonder how many Einsteins, have been flushed down labatory sinks because they didn't have perfect genetic matches to some profile.
The better news is he has a sister, 2 years old. She's got about all the same as him, but to a lesser degree. Still had to have cranial surgery like her big brother. BUT, she looks like she might be smarter.:) Again, Glad we didn't test and abort. They could have the cures or inventions to the future's problems locked in their cute little brains.
Or they could just give me a drawing of the solar system and make me smile to know they surpass my brothers kid. 8D
After the ice melts, the poles flip. Eventually we'll be in the next iceage... It has nothing to due with my SUV or your solar panels, it is the nature of the cycle of destruction. Here's some more fun info on NCLB... If folks are gonna point fingers, at least read up on it.
Considering that HUMAN generated Greenhouse gasses contribute to 2% or Less of the total atmosphere, I doubt that it is a greenhouse gas effect. Besides, if "we all gonna die or not" is not an issue to our planet, ONLY to us. There has been mass extinctions in the past, and the Earth will bounce back like it always does.
I still maintain that if anyone is Truly an environmentalist, then they will just commit suicide to limit the impact their own existence has from birth to death. Think of the amount of oil & CO2 emissions saved with this new ORGANIC Fertilizer we'd have for a while.
The point of the secret ballot is so that these can't be issues in the first place.
Secrecy? Do you really think your vote is anonymous? In Ohio: When I walk in, I wait in line.. The LOL'S (Little Ol' Lady Squad) asks for my Name and ID. After They Find me in the books, I have to sign in on a numbered page. That Signature is compared on my Voter registration page. They never look much the same, but I don't think anyone really cares. The last lady gets told the sequential line # that I'm signed in on, and punches that into the diabold (I think) card reader thing.
That Card links me to my vote. I then go and vote my votes. at verification time, it is printed... I can then choose to change it, and I have in the past if I misread a name, etc.
After changes it is verification time, again. after final verification is printed, and I have agreeed that that is my vote, it prints off lots of #'s and stuff and then form feeds the sheet out of the window.
I'm (I shouldn't) assuming that those #'s link back to the Card # / translation to my voter line # / name. If they don't, I'd be surprised because that is the audit trail that NEEDS to be there, and that is what I want.
I do not care about a secret vote because I am not ashamed of my vote.
The only people that need secret votes is if they are afraid of who they are voting for, and if it is that bad, then we have other problems beyond voting machines to worry about.
Now, My UNION that I belong to has indicated that THEY want to take away anonymous voting... THAT is wrong because with such a smaller sampling of people, then there can be revenge directed and extracted onto a worker who didn't vote the "correct" way. As for General election, I don't think that will be an issue.
BTW,
If I'm not carrying ID or have a non photo ID, I can vote provisional. But that doesn't really count unless a recount is asked for. This is where a lot of dead people vote. It's all paperwork that you don't have to verify, just swear under "oath" that the information provided is correct. (Right...)
There is also a program that you can do this with... You take a series of pics, and adjust the focal point as it puts them all together to get super fine detail out of a "normal" camer. Lots of folks use it for pictures of their mineral and rock specimens... The name of the program escapes me at the moment, you may find more infor at www.mindat.org in the forums and/or info on the pictures if you look up a mineral and check out some of the cool pics.
I like the folks that do this, it makes for some super wallpaper.:)
When I was at PSU, we collected it all up, and redistributed throught the campus, upgrading lesser computers... so in the end we would end up with the oldest of the old. Then that pile (because we were a PSU branch campus) would be trucked back to PSU - Statecollege (Main Campus) after they picked over it, they would wipe/destroy drives and sell at the student junk store that they ran out of the office of the physical plant. (OPP, yeah - you know me...) I don't know if that is still current situation or not, but I bet it is similar elsewhere.
Now I'm in the K-12 world, and we collect and redistribute the tech throughout the district. Then we usually have a yearly "surplus" auction to get rid of leftoevers. Not just IT, but also maintanence vehicles, (old or broken) chairs/desks, office equipment, etc.. But trust me.... If it makes it to the sale, it is usually 1 step from a landfill.
By then I've raped the machines for memory, drives, powersupplies, video cards if they have them, etc... Previously, we ended up with just shells of computers that still had inventory tags. The PARTS are useable, but not the machines. We would usually leave the MB and Processors unless it was still being serviced in the district. The key is that we never know when funding may get tight, so we have to canabalize everything we can and be happy when New comes down the line.
BTW, when I say "I", I mean as a representative of the school and employee... I am not advicating that "I" took Tech for myself... I am saying that "I" have to fix the stuff and we kept the parts pile supplied with the old tech. In no case should you ever "TAKE" anything from the school. That is a no-no. If your desperate for old tech, you may want to start by "ASKING" the school, not posting on slashdot...
You might be surprised that in the end it may go back out to the community in other ways, such as outreach programs, jail programs (yes, they train techs in some jail education programs) etc... etc.. So just stealing something as suggested elsewhere is NOT the answer. You'd be surprised that you may find where the state has some type of sale or auction for it and get it for cheap. Assuming again, that it has a viable use at that point.
BOFH+1 Hate theives+0 but may help you find end sale/recycling info for friend+0 with Beer+6 approach. YMMV.
Will it actually change their marketing ploys? I doubt it.
Just the other day, I was taking care of dinner and kids when phone rang. It had my wife's name (yes, I have; and yes some role reversal, but I get home earlier, etc..) Without thinking, I answered. It was a stinking telemarketer. When I chewed her out and she hung up, I looked back at the caller ID log. Instead of my wife's name and cell phone # as usual, it had wife's name and our own land line phone number! So not only did this company spoof the name, but also the #. And it seems to happen a lot lately!
We don't answere the phone unless it is someone we know, and now I have to even worry about that! No, I'm not dodging creditors, I just rank time with kids and family as more important than solicitations for "Troopers association" or other junk callers. If I need your service, I'll look you up. Don't bug me with calls when I'm with the family!
I vote to inject a "sleep" command into the hive collective. If we could get close enough, we could bring down the whole cube.
Oh, What were we talking about again?
Old idea, old news... This has been discussed (or at least I've already known it and teach others) not to trust Wiki. I directly link and relate it to the COI, or COST OF INFORMATION. If I have to PAY for information like a journal or subscription, I will hold the people accountable because of that premium. But Wiki is "FREE" so if I read something wrong, I laugh and keep going...
People who plan for malice take advantage of Wiki's "open" model and hack it up for their own agenda.
BTW, So Does Newpaper and TV, but I don't pay for them... TV is free and newspapers I rairly purchase, it is usually in the breakroom.
All of this kinda goes with the saying "I read it on the internet, so it MUST be true." 20 Years ago when the "internet" was a collection of colleges and DARPA machines, yes... Today, not so much, garbage in - garbage out.
I wasn't gonna post anything, but my cat gave me a freaky look, and now I'm posting...
I think this phewy, free will definatly still exists.... But I'm in the mood for tuna now, so I'll have to come back and explore this topic more after a snack.
Don't know bout' you folks across the pond, but here I only have one option... Pay my ISP. They have "plans" but nothing major just bandwidth caps, and as far as I know.... Nothing like a "P2P Extra fast" option, etc.
Why do I say? Because I pay for the use of the pipe. (Sorry, Tubes for those around Washington, DC) So my data should have the same rights as all over by my ISP. There should be no question of WHAT It is, or WHO it is going to... I don't have any Al-a-Cart options on the bill, so they can't selectively decide how to route a packet. I would assume since the next hope is the Big net that my ISP subscribes to. Unless they are missrepresenting the TOS, I never saw anywhere listed that their provider limits the network. I supposed a sucky ISP would try that, but then market forces should dictate that their business model would fail in.5 seconds after everyone gets wind of it.
So, if you think your ISP (DLS/Cable/Dialup) is limiting your packets then RAT THEM OUT! We need to know! We NEED a clearinghouse on this and Slashdot seems to be the closest one.
one of two things will happen. Either they fail, or someone will step up and provide a "Net Nutural" open pipe service that everyone wants and become bizillionairs.
I also use Provigil, but because I have sleep apnea.. Even WITH my mask and CPAP, I have huge sleep disruptions. The Dr's suggested surgery, but admitted that it may not provide much relief and I may actually still need the CPAP... Therefore, I use the CPAP as much as I can, and pop the Provigil on the days when I can tell I didn't get any sleep. My only side effect that I've found is talking. Once I pop a Provigil, about 1/2 hour later, I can't shutup. I will just rattle on and on... And for the folks at work, they knew right away that something was wrong till I explained why I had to take it.
As for brain enhancement, etc... Naw... Just makes you awake. Though I'll be the first to admit that it is rather distracting to fall asleep while your trying to think of something.:)
BTW, For those planning on using this as a reason to get Provigil, you have to have REAL evidence of a problem. I had a RUDE AWAKENING when I bumped into another vehicle at a stop light. I fell asleep at the wheel waiting for it to turn green. Luckily nobody was hurt, and it made me drop the excuses as to why I was tired at work.
OffTopic! I don't even get Funny, I get offtopic! Shhs... The kid is so digging for a job in the post, it should have been rejected from the getgo and never make it to the main stream. Must of been a slow news day. But I use slashdot appropriate humor to point out that the kid is pandering for job offers, and I get an offtopic... Slashdot is going down when it starts posing as the next "Monster."
Maybe I should of included the all powerful "First Post!" but I figured I was above that... Guess not.
"YOU only see what THEY want you to see..." "Consume"
Hasn't everyone figured this out yet? Not being funny. Quite serious. If you want the "NEWS" don't rely on just one source, and usually look for various "opinions" to get the full story.
The reference is from some hokey alien movie with an ex-wrestler... the truth is more scary because the aliens are not real, they are the elitest ruling class on both sides of the political spectrum and they will use each other and media outlets to keep you keeping your heads down and munching... QUESTION EVERYTHING. (except me, of course.)
I think your right from what I had heard... Besides, I'm a republican, and I had my local Union chapter ASK me to vote Dem and Vote for Hillary... Why? Because I'm a union employee, so I "owed" it to them somehow. So, Right there you had Hillary (reps) asking me to vote for her. She was afraid! She came out here to Toledo TWICE. I don't know about other places, but I think she REALLY worked us trying to shore up that vote, be it with Dems or Rep.
For all the phone calls and press and people Knocking on my door, you would of thought it was November and Hilly was running against Oboma for the final presidential vote.
As for it being an evil "PLOT" by Rush et, al... I don't think so. No matter how it goes, she can claim that and get press. (no press is bad press, lest you forget.) Because it seems that people have a knee-jerk reaction to Limbaugh even if they have NEVER listened to him, then it gets their kook base all fired up. (Quick, Hide your McMansions) and the sheep that just watch politico tv say to themselvs: " Thats not really fair" So it puts negativity in the bank for when it comes down to a real fight against the Republican canadite (McCain I guess...) Mark my words, you will see them refere back to this after all the deligates are put away and Hillary has taken her party though the firefight that will be the demecrat convention... and just intime to point to the republican as playing dirty and this being some proof. But the reality of it was nothing could be further from the truth...
And, No... I didn't cross over... I Don't like McCain either, but H & B worst. I wish that either party would have real canidates worth voting for. Maybe a year for an independent vote. At least I'll have a "clean' feeling the morning after......

NCLB was around LONG before BUSH...
" it's just another incarnation of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965, one of President Lyndon B. Johnson's Great Society monuments. Secrecy? Do you really think your vote is anonymous? In Ohio: When I walk in, I wait in line.. The LOL'S (Little Ol' Lady Squad) asks for my Name and ID. Slashdot is going down when it starts posing as the next "Monster." Maybe I should of included the all powerful "First Post!" but I figured I was above that... Guess not.
1) post to slashdot
2) ????
3) ????
4) Profit.
I don't know about other places, but I think she REALLY worked us trying to shore up that vote, be it with Dems or Rep.
.....
At least I'll have a "clean' feeling the morning after.
Slim article... How long would it take to error check that much data?
on Another note... What did they do with all that Pr0n once it got to the other end?
