    The stirling is DEAD. Has been for 100+ years. Yep, it's a cool toy, but thats about all. Get over it... Instead I'd like to see more Hydrogen based fuel infastructure to aid the adaption of Hydrogen based vehicles... Compressed Natural Gas and Conversion kits to turn my Van over to CNG (We've got LOTS of it out there, might as well use it and keep people employed in the USA instead of in some sandy desert in the M.E.) And lastly the option I'd like is some type of small pellet nuclear based system. Now, don't freak... I'm sure some bright engineer out there would figure out a way that it could be done. Think about it, you'd buy a years supply of fuel in one tennis ball sized container. Something like a Mr. Fusion would be a plus, but "Big Oil" has been supressing that Tech since 1984.

    Really, they BOTH voted for a 700 Billion $$$ Bailout of wallstreet. Not My Street, Wallstreet.... Where HUGE bonuses for CEO's under sinking companies, and now Automakers have their hand out, where does the government takeover END!? We are heading down the road of the United Sociolistic States of North America. USSNA for short... I see it fitting nicely on the map, and we will eventually be 100% Socialized soon. Either directly with Obama wanting to "Share the wealth" or with McCain wanting to buy all these loans that are going belly up because someone has a bigger eyes than their paycheck.

    I VOTE to NOT VOTE for either of these idiots! Lets make a third party count! Show them that you are SICK of the BS! It's your choise, but I'd suggest Bob Barr as a starting choice.

    BTW, they BOTH voted YES to the bailout, I'm sure that was planned so that they couldnt attack each other on it, but if you ask me, THAT alone is why you should vote for either of these yahoo's! (No offense ment for YAHOO the company by lumping these two in with their name.)

    You Son of a bitches! You Amend and hijack a bill and put the biggest corporate welfare act in the history of the United States into the bill and Push it down our throats like caster oil. You treat us like children that you can spank and send us back to bed to sleep some more while you rape, steal, and pillage our country under our noses.

    BE on notice that I no longer consider the United States of America in existance. I will NOT Pay Taxes to an entity that has embraced communism and gives 700billion away to save the rich and greedy while we are left to fight for our own economic survival every day. The lessons to Wall Street and banks will forever resound that they can do what they want and the Congress will fix it and make it all better, for the price.

    The number of earmarks in HR 1424 is dispicable. The majority have nothing to do with any economic or financial bailout or rescue plan but server to line your own pockets with the blood and guts of your constituents.

    I agree, it has been rather depressing lately... With unemployment @ 6%, taxes with new president will wipe out more companies and increase unemployment... Very depressing. Almost enough to make one forget about a recession.

    Once Again, Consumers are left holding the bag.. The Federal Trade Commission only "Monitored" the groups finances and did nothing while $400,000.00 (!!!) was spent by the common idiot... But have no fear, because after the court case is finally settled, and class action lawyers will make sure that everyone gets a $5.00 off coupon on their next purchase of the next penis enlarging spam that crosses our in-box!

    Meanwhile, the spammers will walk, laywers will get rich, and we are still stuck with trying to shutdown the botnet that will keep going without attention and will be hacked and sold to another competeing "spamking" by some nameless hacker/for/hire...

    I started to do this, but I found the life I created more interesting than my own, so I've decided to keep this new identity instead. Can I be chareged with ID theft of myself? How about murduring myself?

    I woke up one day and decided I was tired of being who I was, and I'm now who I wasn't. It makes it much more interesting when talking to the people at a bar, but if you really know me, you'll know how much of that statement is false.

    Eventually it will all catch up to me, and I'll wake up hung-over, just wishing I were my own self again. just to live a more normal life.

    And before that, I had a Jukebox 6000 with a 6gb Drive by Archos... I've updated batteries and have it up to 40GB... While not as small, it works and does a good job. I don't know how Apple and patent anything with the IPOD other than the software. Heck, even the Jukebox came with a copy of MusicMatch to download songs to the bugger. I think the IPod claim to fame of anytype was the .99 download. Other than that, it is just "slick" and that is what Steve Jobs & Co. do: They know that if they package it cute enough, all the people afraid of technology will catch on to it becuase of the cuteness factor. (Imac, ipod, iphone... etc.)

    So, No Apple... You don't have any right to anything... go away now.

    Just Pick a nice design and take it to the local tatoo parlor... No chance it is gonna come of or be nicked or destroyed unless you are. So, how's that for everlasting? Reminder of stardust? How about reminder of pain and suffering you put up with each other because deep down you really do love each other. How about symbolism of I'd do anything to show society that I belong to you... Even something as hard/tough to handle as a tatoo. I personally do NOT have one, but always thought it would be cool way to go... My ring cost me $30 *(8 years ago, on sale) at a local jewelry shop... it is just 14K, plain round with the "comfort" edge... Why did I go cheap? Because her's wasn't... it was a set that the engagement ring attached to and really fancy... But 99% of the time she just wears the plain band part. So that way I matched her plain band. Besides, it is all about materialism when you start putting too much thought into it. We know we love each other and unless I loose my finger, that ring will never come off. Good luck! It's a challange... Just wait till you decide to reproduce! ;)

    Just chisel it all in stone... We still have people that decrypt the Egyptian Hieroglyphics, so it will work in the future...

    OR, just have 2 or 3 formats (2 digital, 1 analog) and the future will adapter their tech to read ours if it is important enough to read.

    Otherwise it will just be old trash and they won't even bother. (Oh, haven't thought about that, eh? ;)

    Besides, our Ape overlords will want nothing to do with proof oh human intelligence....

I guess I'm just stupid, because I've never seen hardware walk at a LanParty, but we usually know each other, or at least everyone knows the host. That is usually the deterrant.     I don't get it... The headline is "30% of Americans Want "Balanced" Blogging " But that is really saying "70% of Americans DO NOT Want "Balanced" Blogging" So why then does it argue about why the democrats should be interested in reviving a failed and flawed idea?

    Really, I could care less about the "other side." When I listen to a radio program or watch something on TV, it is because I like it, and I am interested. The Balance should be natural, there should be an Anti-whatever the view was, if it holds merit to have the opposite view. Some views do not hold merit and cannot support an audience.

    An example would be the Liberal talk show "Air America." it was full of cranks and hate, but no substance. If it had substance, it would have gained a following, advertisers, etc... and would still be going strong. It is not, point proven. Another example would be if a
    talk show existed against murder, how would you justify equal time for a talk show that proposed increasing murders.

    There is no "Fairness" in Life, that is why it doesn't happen. Usually the person/group wanting something to be "fair" is after they feel slighted because they are on the loosing side. (Is it "FAIR" that I don't get part of the a 300Million dollar lottery, when I paid the same amount as the winning ticket??? ) Really, there is no fairness, and those that propose it are doing so purely because they know their ideas and rhetoric to not hold up to true scrutiny of the facts.

    Hmmm... that got me thinking of "I am Ledgend" ... I think that premise started with the idea of hacking a virus to do "good things."     I had a cdr once that quit working. (old office 97 cd, so it was dated.) I happened to hold it up and saw that it had flaked off some of the aluminium layer. (top) So I figured, it just needs something to reflect against, right? I cut a small square from an anti-static bag that a HD was stored in. Taped that over little piece with clear scotch tape, over the missing spot. It then installed fine, and I burned a new copy. I swear this is true, and it may have been a fluke to work, but it did. YMMV...

    Hmm... First, Easy to say as AC...

    Second, No she's not like that. Little bit of a partier and a happy soul, but still a geek. She had a few long term relationships, and things didn't work out. Decided that the long term goal was a family and decided she didn't need a reason to put it off anymore. So not really f*'d up, just realistic about age, etc... You've gotta realize that after a certain age, things are higher % for defects, etc...

    Anyways, this is more or less a post note so that I feel I've defended her in some sense.

    There are girl geeks... Few, but some... So you can't assume your % of woman / water, it could have been % of male / water, etc..

    Off topic, but...

    One GG that I know, and is rather pleasant to view, decided the biological ticking was too loud. Having not found a suitable male after being hurt/rejected a few times, she decided to completely forgo the male part of the equation. A few Dr. visits, lots of $$ for fertility drugs, and some frozen sperm = twin babies on the way, no father needed.

    Now, in reality, a male was the initial donor of the frozen sperm, and I told her that she could of saved a lot of money by just going to a bar and drinking a lot of vodka, but she went on spouting about genetic core, family traits, selectability, et al...

    I almost wanted to point out the story of Dr. Jacobs who was convicted of fathering children with his own sperm instead of the donor sperm that was selected, but figured that would only cause too much angst.

    BTW, I guess this is becoming a trend among some women today, so the available men better figure things out soon, or the next generation will all be wearing "popsicle"(tm) T-shirts... (I'm out of the game, married with 2 kids myself, so don't blame me.)

    If they only check/balance that you have to keep out duplicate votes to limit fraud/manipulation, is that you charge a "membership fee" of $100 per vote, then you'll still have LOTS of votes bought. What does $100 mean to a company or pact or 521 group, if they have MILLIONS of dollars to throw behind somone/something. You will still end up with thousands of fraudulant votes.

    NOT TO MENTION, that if I can't afford to give a complete stranger $100, then I don't get any say in how things work out.

    The key here is that your still relying on $$$ to purchase power. At least with the current situation, membership is afforded to all LEGAL Citizens at Birth/acceptance. All that is required is usually an ID of sometype that verifies citizenship. Seems pretty straight and easy; keeps the playing field level.

    Not withstanding dirty politics that cause dead people to vote, multiple votes, and votes by non-citizens.... But tighter controlls on the ID and citizenship requirement would eliminat that. For whatever reason, too many people don't like scrutiny so they fight the ID requirements - opening the door to fraud at all levels.

    PS... Before you start about attacking NEEDING ID's to vote... Please read my .02 on it:

    Computer geeks like me/us are all about TRUSTED COMPUTING, etc.. BUT mention an ID to Vote, and EVERYONE gets riled up... Isn't it just a personal authentication method? Would you just let any user authenticate and access your network shares? Same thing, just on a social scale. Thats why social attack/hacks work... People don't practice the same security in person as they do on their networks.

    Just a shot in the dark, but... if you have a sphere, you'd have one contact point with the surface used to measure? Whereas a cube would be a large flat surface... if they are getting this exact tollerance then they may not want friction playing a role in it. Besides, I think they can spin the silicon sphere to be almost completely not touching a surface. (Air streams in a round chamber) that would effectively levitate it while measureing (xray I guess from article) the # of atoms, etc...

    But just a guess, so I may be WAY off base. Seriously for once....
