    This just goes to show that prices should be in terms of usage, like other utilities. That is what ISPs are now. The sooner they begin to be treated as such, the better.

    Isn't it kind of like all other forms of digital media? Sure you can download most of it for free, but getting it from an official source is generally more convenient and of higher quality.

    Wouldn't the mythical deep packet inspection mentioned by the summary interfere with and degrade lawful traffic? It seems like only tactics which do not degrade legitimate traffic would be admissible from my uninformed understanding of this legislation.

    The reason for meters ... is to control the availability of parking spots

    I assert that this should be the primary purpose for parking meters, and that the revenue from them should only be used to facilitate the parking meter system. Thus, a fraction of the population smart enough to game the system is pretty irrelevant and totally consistent with freedom. I think it is similar to the specialized knowledge of locals knowing the most efficient ways to get around the city during certain hours. Are you saying that cities should rely on parking revenue to provide more money to subsidize their spending habits? The residents are already taxed to death as it is.

    Some people don't think so. It is argued that the Federal Reserve central banking system is at fault for the boom/bust cycle due to artificial expansion of credit. That secretive, pseudo-governmental institution couldn't be further from the free market, which is presumably what you meant by "capitalism".

    Yep, Internet connectivity is a utility and should be treated as such. The sooner the ISPs realize this, and stop trying to act like they are a value-added service, the better. Quotas, false advertising, traffic shaping/favoring are all outcroppings from this mindset.

    Is this something just came out? I installed IE8 on my Parallels VM the other day and the installer for IE8 prompted me for which search engine I wanted to use (Google was default).

    You are not alone. Twitter is utterly inane. I think a lot of people really are that narcissistic that constant status updating appeals to them, but on the flip side, the amount of hype being garnered really is like the emperor's new clothes.

    With conditional stylesheets for legacy UAs you can achieve the correct look AND implementation. We'll never get anywhere if people refuse to change their ways. My impression of the argument over whether tables may be used for layout reminds of fighting with a child over whether a frog is a fish.

    It doesn't matter why they do it. The point is that the enlightened Bay Area has just as much bias and intolerance as everywhere else. Your comment about the NRA is case in point. Without further information about your gun ownership views, I can only surmise they would find them disagreeable in kind.

    If I wanted to play around with real money there's nothing stopping me from logging into my bank's online banking or doing some e-trading on the stock market. Since I don't really enjoy those things, why would I enjoy a game which is that tied to normal life?

    No, MapQuest is now owned by AOL but they were never part of Yahoo. Yahoo developed their own online mapping service called Yahoo Maps that came not too long after MapQuest got popular. Back then Microsoft was only pushing a desktop application called Microsoft Streets and Trips.

    I haven't had a chance yet, but it should be easy to wave it next to an RFID reader. The ones I have encountered will beep if they are able to ping the chip, even if they don't know what to do with the information.
