Why then would I want to replace my webkit browser with this? I understand this is an Alpha and that bug might be fixed, but again, why would I want to use this over my webkit based browser?
Because some of us view OSS as more than just free software. Some of us want to help debug/test it and add to the community. Some are out for more than just a free-ride (although there's nothing wrong with a free-ride when it's offered.)
Since this is publicly available data and all the guy did was send an automated web browner to go download it does this mean Facebook has threatened him with a lawsuit for doing what every visitor to facebook does already? Granted, he likely did it much faster than any other individual has done. It's just wonky.
That's not necessarily true. In Central Europe, nationalism is alive and well (actually increasing due to the perceived cultural threat from the EU), and a picture with three different skin colors for three people will not be interpreted as affirmative action, but unwanted external cultural influence.
Particularly the black guy, as you don't expect to see black people every day.
In Hungary, at least, the original picture would cause outrage from the far-right and a measurable decrease in sales.
So, you're saying the Polish are racists and MS is just bowing to market forces?
. . . have these cameras record their crimes for the sake of posterity?
You only have to look at the evening news with their "surveillance camera" footage to know that the ever-present camera does little to deter criminals. What we do get is a better record of the crime, which mostly just helps prosecutors convince the depicted offenders to agree to plea deals, as opposed to being used as a great bit of evidence to support a case to have them convicted and serve the prescribed time for the crime committed.
It's my understanding that narcotics sniffing dogs have been allowed to use the narcotics they're supposed to be sniffing for and thus having felt the effects of those narcotics are motivated to find them in the future. Perhaps this is a similar case where an agency is rewarded with the confiscated possessions of their victims...errr...customers.
Same here. I've washed SD and CF cards more often than I'd like to admit. Despite that I've never had one fail out of the wash.
I've had one card fail though. My Palm Treo uses SD cards and once when removing the card my fingernail was in the perfect position to split the card open at the seam. When I removed the card from the phone I had 2 pieces. One plastic cover(the part w/o the label) and the remainder of the card stayed together. I re-attached to cover and attempted to read the card in several USB readers and the phone as well. It was dead. The devices never recognized that a card was inserted.
I'm sticking with mp3 outlets. Why? I don't own an iPaidtoomuch errr..iPod. I own several mp3 players from small flash based devices (ipodShuffle like), cd and dvd based devices, smart phones, and in-dash mp3 players in the car. All of them work with mp3. None of them work with the files from itunes (except for the ones where you pay a non-iPod-tax for the mp3 version.)
Other than real property, possessions only get taxed at time of purchase.
If the tax man gets his way imaginary property will get taxed too. See: 2nd Life, Sale of WOW characters/items/gold, automotive taxes(DMV "fees"), etc.
So what happens when I share some creative commons work that does not allow modification as terms of it's license. Share and Share alike. Non-commercial no derivative. In both cases no charges are allowed to be made for the work. In the no-derivative license, well, that's self explanatory, you can't change it. Adding DRM will change it.
So just like the ZUNE DRM in transfers, the new DRM also ignores creative commons.
This should come as a suprise too. Apple isn't just the biggest music seller on the net, it's also responsible for the majority of podcast subscriptions too. This has been mentioned and bitched about many a time by various podcast personalities. The consensus is that the iTunes store is more (or less) an iPod music store and many people only stumble upon podcasts when browsing though the iTunes store. The assumption among the majority of these browsers is that podcasts are for iPods only, because of the POD in the name, and because apple has a section on it's iPod music store for them. Surprised again?
According to the powers that be at GRC/SpinRite (the HDD software recovery people) the majority of power consumed in a HDD is very rapid accelerations required to move the read/write head from point to point across the HDD platters. We have a good grasp on how to make great bearings, so keeping a HDD rolling is trivial. Bypassing that whole Force=Mass*Acceleration is going to take a lot more than good bearings.
Said laptop is covered in a volatile hydrocarbon. In close proximity is an open flame or other ignition source. Poof god laptop, writing desk, and farm house. In comes the arson investigation team.
Bah, this has nothing to do with looking out for his interests and getting fair compensation for his loss. His homeowner's insurance company is already handling it, and if he wants to recover damages not covered by his insurance, he knows the next step is to call a lawyer, not Dell.
Unless he is looking to get his laptop replaced at Dells cost. Did he have an extended service contract?
I bet to differ with the parent. The remote I use for my HTPC setup is the one that comes with Radeon AIW video cards. With a little irblaster and few scripts on the HTPC I can (and do) use the one remote to operate everything connected to the TV. That thing eats up far more than 5 sets of batteries a year. Imagine the folks with the really fancy remotes with LCD touch screens and the like. Remotes have come along way sense the 80's my friend.
I do agree with you on smoke alrams, flashlights, or any emergency "must work now" gear that does not see frequent use.
I'll add the possibility that you are in a motor vehicle in a jurisdiction that has made placing phone calls while driving illegal.

Recipient of said device breathes a sigh of relief when he discovers his heart won't be slashdotted.
Speaking of old words, the AP is also selling a license to quote public domain material.

"mother had her first child at 15, now has four children with five different fathers"
Hell of a trick to pull that off!

Why has no one recommended the obvious? Stop being a pedophile and making up elaborate excuses.
. . . you should stop buggering kids, denying you served in the armed forces, and wasting time on slashdot.

Time to ban aircraft fires! These new CF aircraft will "burn to CO2." Think of the children! If just one life is saved.

Those photos! How much abuse can one handle? I feel like my eyes have been abused by the over-use of those damned super-wide-angle lenses!
