I think that when Apple emulated the 68k they were at a bit of an advantage because the PowerPC had far higher clocks and it was a bit faster chip clock for clock. So, the fact that the emulated code only ran at 1/5th (or something) speed made little difference.
"(No AMD suggestions please. I've never found them to be as stable as Intel CPUs )."
You're probably coupling them with some other sub-par parts then. The processors themselves are fine. Are you using cheap RAM? A cheap PSU? A cheap motherboard? All of those things make a huge difference in stability.
Also, there was SLI (Scanline Interleave Mode) on the Vodoo 2 series. With SLI, you "daisy chained" two Voodoo 2's together, effectively doubling speed.
Yeah, just like they released the source code to DOS and the variants of Windows 1, 2, and 3.

Actually, I am a pretty heavy gamer, and I do most of my gaming on a PowerMac G4. I find that the real bottleneck on Macs once you get past about the 1GHz barrier is the video card. You really need a nice one to get some good FPS. With Mac editions of the Radeon 9700 and 9800, I can turn up all of the nice visual effects and have it easily keep up with my 2.2GHz Athlon XP system with a Radeon 9800.
So, I don't really see how the new PowerBooks with a 1.5GHz processor and a Radeon 9700 couldn't keep up with one of these FragBooks.
I think the problem with the virtual boy was that it had two seperate screens, and your eyes had to make it in to one image. I'm assuming this laser thing would have to do it the same way. Project two different images to your eyes and allow your eyes to combine them. Better buy an extra bottle of tylenol!
Those are some really high temps for that Zalman cooler you've got. Are you sure that you installed it properly? Are you using enough thermal compound? Maybe you're using too much thermal compound. Maybe your case has bad airflow. Try taking the side off and see how it does.
For those of you who are interested in strength training, I recommend picking up some whey protein powder, and dropping it in your drink a few times a day. It is really awesome. Sure, it doesn't taste great, but it really helps speed up the rate at which you recover and the rate at which you gain muscle. I've been taking it along with my normal strength training for a few months, and I look and feel great.
Being an Apple and Linux user, I just wanted to point out that the theme you've got there is much less refined than even the older version of OS X. For instance, the dock has that ugly verticle bar in it, and the top menu bar is very plain. Not bad, though.
Say we were to terraform Mars and we had people living there. What would those people do for an internet connection? Would they have a high latency link to Earth via Satellites, or is there a better solution that would enable lower latencies (maybe using light somehow)?

Are you sure they're not just failed XT's, like the 9500NP's (failed 9500 Pro or 9700NP) and 9800SE's (Failed 9800)?

There's supposed to be a movie that is a sequal to Final Fantasy VII coming out eventually..
Here's some trailers for it: http://www.ffshrine.org/ffac/ff7ac_trailer.php
"Wow...
An activity OTHER than browsing slashdot that will guarantee I'll never get laid again."
The again implies that you got laid once before. You must be new here.

I'd rather have it a "+1, Sick" mod. I bet that'd turn up some interesting posts.
"Instead, their front page has 366 errors [w3.org] on it."
They probably use FontPage. Coincidence? I think not!

Microsoft did NOT save Apple as a competitor. Steve Jobs saved Apple. Apple still had a few billion dollars in a cash pile at the time.
I think you have Carbon and Cocoa flipped around. Looks about right otherwise.
It'll be interesting to see how things play out...
It'll probably end up being an "oh shit!" reaction, and they'll rush to get some Open Source stuff out the door, assuming that happens.

Yeah? So nuke us.
We all know that porn is the technology testbed.
It worked first try for me. I've never bothered looking in the forums for help with it.
You use gentoo? Try this:
emerge ati-drivers
fglrxconfig
You now have ATi drivers installed on your gentoo box and you're setting up the configuration file for them! Congratulations!
If SCO sues Microsoft, who do we cheer for??
No, it's four companies. It's going to double each day...
