  3. Use fascist GPOs on German Government Advises Public To Stop Using IE · · Score: 4, Interesting

In our company, we have resorted to implementing a fascist GPO to solve the problem. Actually, in the untrusted zone, IE can't:

    - run javascript
    - directly launch an associated application (like a PDF)
    - run Flash
    - run ActiveX
    - change of the default home page
    - install toolbars
    - use any other search provider except Google

amongst others. It has become a sport to lock down IE as much as possible without removing it completely - this encourages using other browsers.

Annoying people so much that they switch browsers has actually been the best strategy so far to prevent IE security problems in a predominantly windows company.

Those Asians, while having some problems with human rights, have found some working measures with completely braindead idiots - and caning for repeat traffic offenders is one of them, especially when causing an accident (with other persons involved, we're talking about "causing grievous injunry", and that's, to my knowledge, caning and jail).

Oh, yeah, one more hint - just using the phone while behind the wheel for the first time will set you back 1500 SGD, which is about 1200 US-$.

  12. Re:Secrecy is fine when it protects individual rig on Swiss Bank Secrecy Under Renewed Attack · · Score: 1

The problem the Swiss law seems to cause in Germany is not a Swiss problem per se, but a German problem. There are not only trucksloads of German money in Switzerland, but also truck loads of Germans. Drive through Zurich during the weekend, and see how many Germans come in with a professional mover to take residence.

They don't do it for fun. They do it because they're sick and tired of their own government, that robs them 60-70% of their income through various taxes, fees and so on, and they're looking for jobs.

Their completely inept government (Bush, against the Merkel crew is highly capable, although /.ers won't believe it) robs them of more than half of their income, and then it's just fair to run, or, alternatively, exert the only means of direct democracy in Germany - vote with their feet.

Furthermore, that money in Switzerland secures jobs in Switzerland, something the parent tries to neglect. Maybe his job, as he might be working in banking IT.

No, the Swiss government just has to tell the Germans to shove it where the sun never shines, stop spending money like there was no tomorrow, and consolidate.

And make sure that this time, there won't be a Berlin wall to keep out the qualified people from emigrating to Switzerland, the US, Singapore or other places that do not have as a prime requisite the obligation to relinquish 70% or more of your income for the 'greater good'.

The sooner the German government goes completely bankrupt, the better. A quick and painful end is better than a long and protracted one, unless Germany decides never to repay it's debts.

But there's a much simpler, and many times less intrusive way to make sure people don't drive drunk: Introduce corporal punishment. The moment motorists have a good chance to get caned for heavy traffic offenses like DUI, or repeatedly running red lights, using the cell phone without hands-free, this crap will stop. Make it mandatory, with at least 30 strikes, of somebody is badly injured because of disregard for traffic laws.

And don't come with 'that's cruel' or 'that's inhumane'. Especially if you have people which have been sent to a wheelchair because a motorist was drunk as a skunk or thought that other traffic regulations didn't apply to him or her.
