Just as synthesizers were the end of "real" musicians, photography was the end of "real" paintings, etc.

It could easily be argued that pitch correction and sampling ruined popular music, and things like photoshop and other image modifications have ruined the visual arts.

I'd also like to point out that the Wikipedia Page lead me on a chain from that into Web 2.0, Tag clouds, and Folksonomy. I want to know two things: Who is actually using these buzzwords in real development work, and why are all the names so stupid (especially "folksonomy")?

That's true, why is it that only journalists have held steadfastly on to the pun, while everyone else has let it die (except the Japanese)? Maybe I don't talk to enough newspaper-reading folks, but I find it detracts from my interest in the story when I find the title was an awful pun instead of an actual description of the news.

Sorry if I'm "out of the loop", but what exactly IS "cloud computing"? I keep hearing this term to describe several (seemingly) unrelated projects, and I'd like it if somebody could break it down, or if that's impossible, just say "it's the latest buzzword, and means about as much in the real world as 'synergy'".

Oh yes, hardware problems are just annoying. Let's just forget for a minute that many people buy one computer, and often do not have much extra disposable income to upgrade or arbitrarily change hardware to run Linux. And then, if they even hear about Linux, it ends up not working for them out of the box (and just give up there), and less than 1% of users will actually take the time to get it working, and THEN they find that their favourite software doesn't have good clones. No, actually, hardware incompatibilities and bad drivers are considerably more important. If you can't get your display running, who cares if the Gimp is crap or not?

    Middle Kingdom syndrome

The term comes from the Chinese themselves - the characters they use for themselves (can't post, thank you slashdot's lack of unicode) read "The Middle Kingdom". More poetically, "The Nail of the World" or "The Center of the World." More modernly, just "Zhong".

This is an awful idea. Amway had a policy on all their goods like that - if you don't like it, return it for a full refund. They lost tremendous amounts of money (mostly in the Asian mainland, but anyways) because people would return a product 90% spent to get their money back. No, sorry, there's no way the potential boost in sales is going to counteract nearly everyone with a brain abusing this for free games.
