    This works even better on Dvorak boards as the keys are all rearranged, so the passwords really do look like gibberish. The only problem is that I'll be logging into something on a computer with Qwerty and then I'll suddenly realize that I have absolutely no idea what the password actually is.

    If somebody can demonstrate we have any real use for massive music players I am ready to be educated.

    The appeal is having every single album you have at your fingertips. When you leave the house in the morning, you may have no idea what you'll want to listen to later. With a smaller player, you're limited to handful of albums you happen to have with you at the time. But with a huge one, you don't have this problem.

    There are also other things you can do, like putting the whole thing on random mode and never know what's playing next.

    MSN only caught on after Windows XP, that's when people started using it just because it was there. By default, the MSN client that comes with XP harrasses you until you either disable it or sign up. It's just another example of Microsoft using their operating system monopoly as leverage into another market.

    I think ICQ is the best protocol, not being able to send offline messages (AIM, MSN) is annoying. Yahoo allows for offline messages, but Yahoo seems pretty hostile to 3rd party clients. ICQ just works.

    Opera almost never crashes. It was kind of bad back in the 6.0x days, and there were a couple of lemons in the 7.xx days (like early versions of 7.2x, and a few of the beta versions), but I have found the 7.5x branch to be extremely stable.

    Also, I spent some time on someone else's computer, where they had Firefox, but no Opera. After several days of using just Firefox, I was seriously missing Opera. There are just so many little things that make the difference to me.

    If you've installed many Opera versions in the same directory, you'll end up with several search.ini files, along with other configuration files all over the directory structure. You have to be sure you're editing the right one.

    I'm using Opera 7.54 for windows, and the "With Pop-up blocker" link worked flawlessly for me. However, the no pop up viewer one didn't. Looks like this method is kind of hit and miss when it comes to browsers.

    Oh well, Opera users don't get to feel left out now!

    I would think that a poor person would be better off with a used PII/PIII computer for under $200 than this PC which is about as useful as an X-box. Atleast if this person is at all interested in doing anything more than email and light webbrowsing.

    You won't install SP2 but you'll be more than happy to sit there moaning about security holes Microsoft won't patch... if you're running XP without SP2 then you deserve what you get.

    P.S. Some Macs are not that expensive. I downgraded to a 20" iMac G5 from a dual CPU G5 and I don't miss the extra speed, saved a bunch as well.

    20" iMac: $1,899. Not expensive???

    Note that Democrat-Democrat is the second highest on the list after Republican-Republican. That just confirms my theory that government runs best when the executive and legislative branches are opposing parties, so everything just get deadlocked and nothing gets done. The truth is both political parties are in it for themselves (though the current bunch of Republicans are pretty blatant about it). The only way to "win" is to play both parties off of each other.

    A great trick, if you know the IP address of the machine you want to connect to, is choose Run... in the start menu, then type two slashes followed by the IP address, such as \\192.168.1.100

    This is usually faster than Network Neighboorhood, and almost always works, even when "Find Computer" fails. Getting back on topic, it even works for connecting to Samba servers.

    Forget about USB drives. I want a server where I have all my applications in some format like Java, XML, or something simular. Then I can hop on any computer, point their web browser to my server, and instantly have my email, IM, and whatever else I have stored on there. Preferably the server would be my computer at home, and so when I'm on my home computer I would have more advanced versions of the same applications. But my guess is this will never happen.

    The problem is, if everyone does this, there will be a lot of multi-millionaires around. And all those people with all that money can only mean one thing: massive inflation. If everyone is going to live for 1000 years, you can bet I'll be investing in things like gold.

    Ice contains fresh water, and oceans contain salt water. The currents within those oceans depend on the salt/water ratio. You add water to the mix and those currents change. And when those currents change you're fucked.

    That is because a lot of (younger) people let buying decisions be controlled by design issues -- a friend of mine has an incredibly loud computer at home - it isn't even a fast or very powerful machine. But the outer design is just "soooo cool". What a moron..

    Are you sure the computer just isn't old? I know people back in the day that went all out with something like an Athlon 700Mhz processor, whatever Voodoo card was the top of the line, some of the more early 7200RPM drives. Very loud machine, but very fast at the time. Nowadays, they still have the computer, it still works though isn't much of a performer by today's standards. But it still has to dump all that heat somewhere.

    I've used one of those USB to PS/2 keyboard adaptors. It was kind of hit or miss whether the computer would see it, I would have to plug it in and unplug it a few times. It might have to do with the fact that some Model M boards draw more power than newer keyboards and some computers don't like this. Or maybe it's just because my PS/2 to USB converter is cheap junk.
