Certainly - competition is a good thing. I used to use GOG as well. You are certainly welcome to continue doing so, I was only illustrating that what you perceive as an acceptable tradeoff (GOG randomly doing offline for PR stunts), others may take issue with.
I also use Direct2Drive, Amazon games, etc. I dislike being tied to a single service.
And the tradeoff of using GOG is the possibility they'll decide to pull some idiotic PR stunt and tell the world they're shutting down operations for several days, leaving you unable to redownload.
Actually, most ARTCC's do in fact provide frequencies during handoff.
As per your proposal, it'd be trivial to insert declination information into ATIS - there's already an infrastructure in place that automatically broadcasts airport altimeter, weather, and NOTAMs at most airports at least regional in size, so just add "declination 3 degrees west" and you're done.
However, I think re-designating runways just makes more sense (as KTPA is doing here). INS, radio, etc can all fail, but a simple magnetic compass just keeps going.
Actually, no. I tested my G1, in airplane mode, both on a commercial flight (at FL350) and in a single-engine Cessna (at 2500AGL), and in both cases, I was able to acquire and maintain a steady GPS lock, and even recorded a track in Maverick. The altitude was WAY off - it'd jump from 38,000' to 12,000' in a second, for example - but latitude and longitude both tracked quite well.
This is by no means indicative of GPS-equipped cell phones in general, of course.
As per battery and charging, there's always a MintyBoost or some such, attached to a small 6V PV cell.
That looks ideal for what i'm wanting to do (generally, geek out on maps while camping and such)... any plans for an Android port ? I'd hate to have to buy an iPhone for this app, as ideal as it seems.
I've been trying to play with GIS data for a few months now, and always seem to get hung up on what to do with said data once I've downloaded it. I've attempted to find some open-source visualization software, and had some limited success with SAGA GIS... but the interface is pretty clunky, and the documentation is either outdated or for previous versions.
Anyone have any suggestions for visualization of terrain data ? Frankly, whatever was used in the article would be useful, but I didn't see the author specify what software he was using.
I'm decent with math, and I enjoy casino games. I just don't walk in believing that i'm going to walk out with more than I started with. When I amortize my losses against time spent playing, it's really pretty cheap entertainment.
I disagree quite strongly with that statement. When equipped with "less-lethal" devices, Law Enforcement is MUCH more willing to use them to subdue more people, for a much wider range of perceived offenses, as compared to only having Lethal force as an option. It's perceived as "just" a taze, or "just" a dazzle, so what's the harm if it turns out that you just dazzled an innocent man ?
Actually, you have it backwards - the price situation in '08 was due to market speculation. Supply and production were near or at record-levels, and demand was approaching a low. The problem was that there were as many as 27 middlemen, each taking their cut and driving the price up a bit at a time, between the crude holding tank and your gas tank.
Most hybrid-electric or electric-only vehicles are substantially lighter than traditional gasoline- or diesel-powered vehicles. Lighter weight equals less wear and tear on the roads. Why shouldn't hybrids pay less tax ?
Just a guess, but couldn't at least part of that be due to increased danger while working at night ? It's a lot tougher to see workers from any appreciable distance at night, regardless of headlights and safety vests.
truncate - terminating abruptly by having or as if having an end or point cut off; "a truncate leaf"; "truncated volcanic mountains"; "a truncated pyramid"
If I might inquire - where do you find these smaller CFLs ? Every CF i've seen retail for years now has been some crappy generic brand with a giant ballast and protruding bulb tips, not to mention they still burn out just as often as incandescents. I'd love to switch my home over to CFLs, but every time i've tried to, I either have size problems, color temperature problems, audible buzzing, and/or burnouts.

Like the dentata YT wears in Snow Crash ? Had the same thought. It worked against Raven, after all!
It's shiny and makes people think the owner is important. At least, that's the best I can figure out.

Shouldn't that be "post hoc, ergo propter hoc" ?

Many thanks, MaxTardiveau - I was able to import the SRTM data directly using QGIS. This is what I was looking for.
That pretty well tracks with what I've found the case to be thus far. The search continues ...

That certainly is a consideration, but remember that the quality of driver is likely substantially diminished ... fatigue, possible intoxication, etc.
