As far as RAM and internal drives being upgraded... Yeah, you can, but you void your warranty and it takes two putty knives and some good luck to open the case. Not exactly what I would call easy.
According to severalwebsites opening a Mac Mini and replacing the RAM does not void your warranty unless you break it while doing so. However, Apple provides a list of what is user-servicable on all there computers. Unfortunately, the Mac Mini is not on that list yet.
When I was in middle school (late 80s) I used to make free calls from the payphone outside my school by touching a paper-clip to the receiver (through the holes to the metal) and a certain part of the phonebox. I have no idea how I figured this out as I wasn't a phreaker or anything.
Actually, many US Presidents have graduated from public schools or obscure private schools. Here's a list
Most recently: Reagen went to Eureka College, Carter to Georgia Tech, Ford to U of Michigan (Yale Law), Nixon to Whittier College (Duke Law), Lyndon Johnson to Southwest Texas State Teachers College.
That's not my experience. I went into an Apple store and told them, "I'm trying to get my dad to buy a PowerBook instead of a x86 laptop. However, he has to run some civil engineering programs that are Windows-based. I would like to see Virtual PC running on a PowerBook."
Virtual PC isn't one of the standard pieces of software that are pre-installed, and they refused to install it especially for me. They said if I signed up for the ProCare program ($99, I think) they would do it for me by appointment.
I wasn't going to pay $99 to demo a laptop. I had to ensure that Windows wasn't too slow on VPC, otherwise I would hear about it endlessly from my dad. So, my dad bought a x86 laptop.
Unlike most Linux distros FreeBSD is really easy to upgrade. Go ahead and install RC1. Updating FreeBSD amounts to: % cvsup % make buildworld % make installworld % reboot
It's a little more complicated than that, but not much more.
The parent isn't just talking about the pain associated with having to patch systems. He is talking about the benefit of having current drivers and older patches on the installation CD. It's certainly not a constitutional right, but, yes, it would be very nice if every year Microsoft updated the Windows installation CD to include a few new drivers and all the new security patches.
I wish I were an artist, but I became craftist instead. Programming is a craft. Crafts have the aspects of creativity, and artistic skill that programmers take pride in. They do not have the artistic intent, however.
I just installed 10.3.3 and unfortunately it does not fix this bug. I've tried many different solutions (including the ones posted in this thread and on macosxhints.com). Nothing has worked yet. I even spent an hour on the phone with AppleCare and they couldn't come up with a workaround that actually worked. Hopefully, they'll fix it in the next update.
You would have a valid point if it were that hard to find a phone that doesn't have a camera. It's certainly getting harder but the vanilla phones are still easily available from any cell phone provider. Siemens and Nokia still make some nice ones. And you can always go the ebay route.
I've been looking at a few of these archive sites. But, none of them allow you to search through their database with any sorting options. I'd like to be able to say show me all the Macs that can run OS X. Or Show me all the G3's that can run OS X.
I'm looking to get the cheapest Mac that runs Darwin. I wanna do some Darwin hacking.
I have to agree with this. You are not in the position to affect any change politically in the company. You will not be able to convince upper management to listen to you. They will be more willing to give lower management the benefit of the doubt and will look at you like a crank.
LE is 32 tracks -- actually that's embarrasing cause I own an mbox. I've never used more than 16 tracks....and at one point I believe that was the limit.
Anyway, your analogy (gimp/photoshop) is pretty good. Though I actually think photoshop has more depth AND is easier to use. So maybe it should be iphoto and photoshop.:) I agree Pro Tools is the prosumer tool, no doubt about it. Think of garage band as the 4-track cassette studio.
I'm definitely hoping that I can use my mbox with garageband.
I don't think people realize what a good value Garageband is. For $49 (really it should be considered $25 cause the other $25 is for iDVD) you get:
1. Good quality sampled instruments. 2. 64-track (PT LE is 16-track) digital audio recording 3. Good quality amp simulators (and probably some other filters)
This is pretty amazing at $49 (or $25).
I'm not counting loops because I think that appeals more to the non-musician. Even serious electronic musicians aren't going to want to use premade loops. But still, the loops looked kinda fun and could be used sparingly.
An advisory opinion, as it is called in the U.S., is actually unconstitutional.
If they sold the drives separately then the MP3 device would come with 0GB capacity so the tax would be 0 euros.
OK...does Apple have an official statement on their website about any of their Macs not voiding the warranty when you open them up?
How about the warranty?

Oh, I remember how I "figured it out"....I saw it in War Games....right? My memory is terrible.

Which part of the winking-smiley face didn't you understand?
Uh...shouldn't it be "Microsoft Looses Passport"? ;)

That holds the hubs on, not the wheels.
And I believe there's a split pin in it...

If we call it a craft, we legitimizes it and we're accurate.

The checksums are used just to ensure that the data transfered correctly they do not guarantee that the ISO is not trojaned.
The solution is to get the md5 from a trusted source (Mandrake or whomever) and then check that against the md5sum of the ISO you downloaded via p2p.
Here's a bit torrent client that has upload cap control in the GUI.
I use it all the time and it works well.

So, what happened with the rumors of a special announcement on Monday in commemorate the Mac's anniversary?

But PT LE (with an Mbox) is $450!!!

The BBC radio adaptation of Lord of The Rings does a much better job with the characterization and story than the movies.
You'll fall in love with characters from the radio play that just fall flat in the movies.
