Have you ever in your history with linux seen any configuration file that have similiar syntax? .vimrc's use " as comments! There are just too many different software packages written by too many different people to enforce any kind of a standard. And without a standard any package that claims to be a universal configuration file tool would need some sort of macro for each config file (like linuxconf).

And how would you write the GUI? What a mess, and I though linuxconf was ugly.

I've been using m12 for some time and I'm afraid it simply is not as usable as netscape at this time. I hope it improves (and i'm sure it will)

My biggest problem is that with netscape 4.7 on an i686 invoking netscape creates 2 processes (and more for additional windows) of 14M and about 8M of memory (according to the ever precise top :). Mozilla m12 starts with 4 processes each using about 20 meg, which quickly swell to about 40 meg each after a few minutes of browsing. I hope the extra memory is used for debugging and will be gone from thw final release, but I am horrified that Mozilla will suffer from the Netscape/AOL disease, that is: creating function after function w/o bothering to repair the current bugs or poor code. I have more faith in mozilla as assuming they wrote the code in a relatively modular fashion I should be able to remove the crap I do not need (read AIM, messenger, newsreader, etc, etc)

IMHO, this is the beauty of Debian. As they are all volunteers there really is no way that Debian would not be huge. Why you ask? I'll tell you. People contribute what they like. In a company like redhat those in charge can say "stop fiddling with that HURD project and give us a hand".

In the Debian world if those in charge said something similiar the HURD group would give them the finger and continue their work. They are all volunteers doing what they do because they love it. They're not being paid by anyone and really have no deadlines save those that are self-imposed. Debian's size will continue to grow very quickly so long as people have diverse interests (and we know they do... I say linux, you say freebsd, etc, etc)

Wolfenstein was a very fun game, but to say it has a creative/good storyline is going way too far. The nazi aspect was just a clever design implimentation that made the game more noticable. Ask most people (my friends atleast) what they remember about Wolf3d and they'll talk about killing dogs, people, what have you.... protecting the world from the Nazi's was the furthest thing from their minds.

It put so many into a position of power where there had been none, and inspired many games to come.

I agree here, but I think doom was the game that truly inspired other first person shooters. Mainly because of its potential for homegrown addons and because the subject matter was more universal. Good or not it is easier for most people to hate demons, imps, and the undead, while having difficulty hating even video game people.

Anyway, there was no instant death BFG or rocket launcher. It was all so realistic.

More realistic? How far have you gotten in the game? Am I remembering incorrectly or did Hitler have some kind of vulcan-cannon clad bipedal death machine in the final (?) level? This is a little unrealistic don't you think?
