a) This isn't a law about what we should drink - read the article next time.
b) There isn't anything very philisophical about this. It's political because it deals with fair interstate trade. It's part of our society and part of the fabric that governs us.
c) Obviously YOU care - you're the one who felt strongly enough about it to post on slashdot.
Once again, read the article before you post and make a jackass of yourself. Since you don't live here, and this isn't an issue that effects you, why do you even care?
Another reason TO use MySQL? Maybe NOT TO is what you meant to say, but I disagree. Their site is seeing the effect of/. so give 'em a break. They obviously didn't size their server to handle the load brought on by the onslaught of slashdot users.
Maybe they actually set the MAX_USER_CONNECTIONS variable in the database server to prevent MySQL from running the machine into the ground.
I was looking for the Linux version of Microsoft's Anti-Spyware (Beta) and this is what I found on their website:
Before obtaining the requested download, please take a moment to validate your genuine Microsoft Windows installation. Validation assures that you are running an authentic and fully-licensed copy of Windows. Validating now will enable faster access to genuine Windows downloads upon future visits to the Download Center. Please see the Why Validate? page to learn more about the Windows Genuine Advantage program and why validation is recommended.
If you're not happy with Mandrake, try it out. How much could it hurt?
The age-old problem new linux users face. Which distribution should I use? I have been a Linux user for 7 years, and STILL haven't picked one. I have tried pretty much all of the major distributions out there at one time or another. All have their plusses and minuses from my standpoint, but they will probably be different from your perspective.
Sounds like you've at least gotten your feet wet with Linux so now you may begin your quest. Have fun and remember, choice is a good thing.
I second this. I have grown accustomed to "auto archive" ability from using Outlook at work for many years (it's a company standard and they pay me every week). I think this would be a great feature for T-Bird.
Sorry, but this is a NATIONAL election, not an INTERNATIONAL election. That means you must be a part of the NATION to participate. If you really want to be part of the process we will be more than happy to accept your application to become a US citizen. In a couple of years you should be able to get citizenship, barring any complications of course. If you hurry I'll bet you could make the next election.
No - he wouldn't. That's exactly the reason he wants PC manufacturers to make super-cheap hardware, so he doesn't have to take a hit on his profits.
Don't ever believe that Microsoft is driven by anything more than pure greed. That's how Bill became the richest man in the world. I'm sure they could cut their margins and still make a killing, but I don't think we will see that side of Microsoft.
What kind of backup strategy did you use? I'm curious because a database of that size would have to be down for quite some time if you have to do a text dump or a tar backup or something along those lines.
It's rooted all right. It's rooted right into the corporate world. All the way from the guy who logs onto ups.com at the shipping dock all the way up to the CEO. Windows is what they know, it's what they run at home, and it is what they will use in the workplace just because of familiarity.
Linux doesn't stand a chance until it offers something the users can't live without, and that Windows doesn't offer.
You read that right and that is the point they are trying to make. People will buy a PC with Linux installed, only to replace Linux with a pirated copy of Windows. I'm not really sure what they are trying to point out so I share in your confusion...
I don't see the relevance on what is shipped with the PC vs. what the user does to it after they take it home. This is not a true representation of anything (that I can tell) so reading the article was just another waste of 10 minutes.
...and not just once, but twice.
...and in return Bill Gates receives boxes of "dominican" cigars shipped from Cuba.

Troll??? +5 Funny.
Make sure they know that you work for beer, wine, etc.!
Let me try and fill in number 2:
1.) Place magazines in sub-flooring
2.) Pray to "insert deity here" that your house doesn't start on fire
3.) Sell one to Intel
4.) PROFIT!!!

No, they ARE Peanuts.
You won't find my wife on that one...

Now what am I supposed to do?
Can we move the nukes out of North Dakota? I feel that you may have suffered brain damage - maybe from the cold.
Why not Minot? Freezin's the reason.
Runs fine on my P3-800. It starts and renders pages as quick as IE does, and it blows the full blown Mozilla out of the water.
Firefox for Windows has built in NTLM authentication. Type your username/password combo in and go nuts.

No, it's by a fscking football game. geez, get it right... :-)

Anyone think Ballmer's has big balls for just saying this publicly?
I think his head looks like a big ball. :-)

Honestly I find that the biggest problem in second year CS is that the kids don't know what memory is.
Maybe they just forgot. Hehe...

Kind of like cancer...
I don't know about the rest of you, but I think the potential abuses of this technology far outweigh the benefits.
Couldn't have stated it much better myself.
