As people have noted above, this case shouldn't even exist. I challenge you to find one mention of mine supporting MS above and beyond the fact that they do in fact deserve to win this lawsuit.

My comments reflected the fact that this case has absolutely no grounds, for multiple reasons. First and foremost is the disclaimer in the MS EULA. Second, the monstrous lack of end-user provided security is obviously the fault which led to infection.

I haven't been talking about Microsoft security versus GNU security when THEY ARE PROPERLY ADMINISTERED. These MS SQL servers were run by the worst admins in the world, obviously, seeing as how I'm about to enter my FRESHMAN year of Computer Systems and Networking and I know vastly more than them.

Perhaps I would even have used MySQL or an open-source equivalent. Don't read between the lines of my posts looking for the secret MS support. It's not there. I support the rule of logic, and this case has no basis in it.

I take it from your attitude that you're not a programmer, or if you are, you have some sort of access to a magical AI that fixes every miniscule bug for you. Bear in mind that this lawsuit is potentially dangerous for every kind of programmer, not just the noodleheads at MS.

Why don't you go take a look at how many remote root exploits exist for GNU software before you decide MS is to blame for all the world's ills. Believe it or not, sysadmins are given lots of little green pieces of paper for keeping their wits about them when it comes to patching and firewalling; this is what we call a JOB.

Online music: Worthless to me. I'm a Canadian PC user who can actually hear the difference between 128 (even AAC) and CD. The AAC>CD>mp3 DRM workaround bugs me, a lot. It's called lossy compression for a reason, and at .99 US a song, I can stick to my existing collection of legal music.

I admit the store's a step in the right direction, but further steps are needed, and in my case, these steps need to be taken by a distributor who isn't platform-dependent.

All your points have a solid foundation in logic. Then, the fact that Apple's market share is miniscule must be based on external conditions. Which is true, to a point. Microsoft has got a grip on the PC world. The software industry is in their pocket. But Apple has made a number of choices that were theirs to make, yet have relegated them to a weak financial position. Particularly before Jobs rode back in on his white horse.

BTW, I was under the impression that no advances were made before Jobs' return, that was why he came back, to bail their asses out. Could you give me a link so someplace that has a detailed history?

My post wasn't meant to be a flame, it was meant to point out the obvious flaws in the parent's suggestions, particularly those pertaining to moving away from MS software. I'm well aware of the ramifications of the story's concept, for example, that you don't need Linux or a Mac to connect to the Internet with a fixed IP. (Holy mother of God the complexity of it all)

However, I maintain that no one is going to listen to someone recommending an alternative computer make or operating system just for simple internet security. If you doubt it, go proselytize your "Switch" doctrine down on the street corners and watch the crowds congregate. (Or not) Windows is in very few ways superior to its alternatives, but as absolutely anyone with any grasp of the computing industry should know by now, people are locked into Windows because of "killer apps".

I'd appreciate if you didn't insist on promulgating the myth that Windows is so terribly insecure and unfit for the Internet. By far the most common ailment, as I understand it, is end-user stupidity; deploying unnecessary services, not firewalling, and clicking on any shiny attachment that ends up in Outlook. What say we wait and see how many Wal-Mart patronizing Lindows users get owned by remote-root exploits before we start slinging accusations?

By the way, in future, I'd appreciate it if anyone deciding to call me an "ass" would be so kind as to refrain from using childish terms like "Windoze", "M$", and their ilk; they really don't reflect level-headed thought.
