"Frankly, hording cash and assets is the worst thing wealthy people can do. Money only has value when it's being traded for something. Which is also a form of wealth distribution. Keeps the rest of us fed and warm at night."
Well my 'horde' of cash is in a bank. Check this out I am 'trading' it for the promise that I can get an equal amount back later, and I get the interest on the money. That's the value. I'd counter that 'hording' cash is one of the smartest things people can do, you earn money for simply the opportunity cost of the money.
Yes your absolutely right it's much more probable that massive change will break stuff.
Yes the person who signs off on it would be internal.
But that's not what runs through business-types heads. They are thinking that if it breaks at all then they are in trouble, where as if it breaks with a currently supported hardware/software then they have someone to call, even if vender support can't do anything.
Yes it's illogical, no it makes little to no sence. I agree that just sticking with what works is usually the most inexpensive, and best choice.
Irregardless of all of your points which make perfect sence, I present to you the answer. Vendor Support means that if something breaks it's not $PERSONS fault.
"How do you do this and not be accused of 'cooking the books?' I mean, Sony can claim it's a great investment but the balance sheets can't hold assumptions"
I've taken a couple accounting classes in college. Yes balance sheets very much so can hold assumptions.
"I wouldn't mind seeing a few asshole SUV drivers crushed by a big rig."
I have....wish I hadn't. A semi ran a red light going 65-ish and t-boned (if you can call it that) an Ford. Dead on impact IIRC.
"Quite a few men and women have tried to push my Focus arround while driving their SUVs, whether due to sheer ignorance or impotent rage, I cannot say."
I drive a little ford as well! (hi there fellow small ford driver!) And I know exactly what your talking about. Then I realize hey my car is worth $2000, they're in a shiny new $30,000 SUV that they owe money on. If they hit me I'm pretty much getting a new car, on their tab. Do what they like, as long as I don't think they're being reckless enough to kill me, I just ignore their aggressiveness.
You are looking at this all wrong. It's just like the SMS service I will be creating once I have the free time. See here is how it works.
1.You lack brownie points with wife/girlfriend 2.You lack time to randomly send her a SMS telling her you love her/miss her/etc.
This is where the system comes in.
1.I have a database of loving/caring/miss you/can't wait to see you messages 2.You pay $X per month for said system to automatically send her a message whenever you want it to (think randomly between 9am and 5pm) 3.The system sends both her and you a copy of said message (the copy for you is so that if she calls or messages back you'll know what's up) 4.???? 5.PROFIT!!
I'd imagine something very similar is going on here.
"you spend less when using cash than when using plastic."
Really? (not tring to be or sound sarcastic) I've found that cash has a magical property that burns a hole in my pocket, where as plastic (I use only debit) pretty much sits there and I don't spend nearly as much.
"Now watch the stream of people file in and pull a single $5 out of their wallet and pre-pay for their gasoline. None of those people have a debit card."
Unfair I say! I buy gas $5 at a time, and I've got 3 debit cards! Granted I'm an outlier since I live 2 miles from work and I drive an econobox.
"Then you have something like a Volvo 240 or old Saab where the manufacturer has thoughtfully provided lots of plastic knockout plugs so you can add extra switches and gauges. Maybe it looks slightly less sexy,"
Personally I think Saabs are pretty sexy. (old and new alike). I've also got a nice warm spot in my heart for the old 240.
Hey, I got my first dvd player over the summer as a gift, and I just bought my first TV a month ago. Just never saw the need for one untill I graduated college and had "free time" again.;)
Didn't really think about the housing boom the past few years, just graduated college in aug. However I just wikipedia-ed Neg-Am Loans, and what can I say but are there really people that use loans such as this? It just sounds like financial suicide.
I too have used bank of america's online bill pay and found it to be quite useful when sending checks to friends and family. Kudos to them and the people who pointed me in their direction!
"I bet just being called an American would get you blood boiling. Wouldn't be funny then, would it? Because of course the americans would be too busy dialing their cell phone sto look at the GPS. And then they'd exercise their freedom to bear arms by gunning you down where you stood, while talking really load and slow so you non-english speaking types could understand."
We are, we do, sometimes happens, and we do.....nothing really racist about your statement.

You Sir, Are a real Man.
Odd that you mention that since I just got that some one not too long ago.
"How would you write a message that had to last >10k years?"
I think if we put a face on the moon people 10k years later would figure it out....ohh wait...
No No No, you realize your a looser when you see this and realize that you could do this for your self, and for free!

I'm running low on semicolons, care to share?

Hey that's not fair! I listen to music through a 30 year old amp, and I'm only 22!

"interest-only mortgages,"
Please tell me you are making this up...I've never heard of it but it scares the living crap out of me if it is real.
I too have used bank of america's online bill pay and found it to be quite useful when sending checks to friends and family. Kudos to them and the people who pointed me in their direction!
and we should ban chatrooms and instant messangers because of all the bandwidth they use too!!
(I jest I jest)
"And in my opinion that will be the cause of WW3 if it hasn't already taken place and no alternative energies fill the vacuum."
How MadMax-ian of you!
+1 RoadWarrior
I don't quite see how you view Guantanamo Bay as illegal. It's been there for over 100 years!
