No, it's $39.95 PLUS the $15-20 for basic cable, thereby costing more.

So which is it? At first you're saying that you're actually paying more because you don't have basic cable, then you're saying that basic cable would be an extra $15-20.

There's nothing wrong with making the pages more visually appealing, just don't overdo it.

I suppose if you provided a standard stylesheet that every document used, and each document author only had to worry about content and didn't have to bother with how it would look (since that's all handled with one good stylesheet forced on everybody), then it could work. Just don't, for the love of god, force each author to come up with their own stylesheet for everything. There should just be one standard one, and that should do it for everybody.

311? What the fuck does 311 do in America? Here in Canada (or at least, Alberta), 311 tells you what number you are dialing from. Phone company technicians use it for figuring out which line they tapped into when they're working on houses that have more than one phone line. The only reason I even know about 311 is because the tech guy told me about it when he was installing DSL at my place (he had to rewire some shit because the DSL was screwing up the alarm system).

So yeah, "It's an emergency! Call 311!" "you're calling from 555-1212" "*phew*, that's a relief"

I work at a gas station, and we have an average sized cigarette rack. Every night, before close, the supervisor has to count all the cigarettes (often this is me). It's a tremendous pain in the ass, there are usually around 1,000 packs of smokes on any given day.

Now, just think if those smokes all had RFID's embedded in the plastic wrapping. Then I could just wave a little wand, and get the readout. It would reduce errors in counting, and it would be faster, too. And if the RFID tag was in the plastic wrapping and not inside the pack of smokes itself, it would get discarded when the customer unwraps the plastic, so nobody would be able to track him with it after he left the store.

So, I guess you could say: I, for one, welcome our new RFID overlords.

Just make sure that all the RFID tags are either a) embedded in the packaging of the product, not the product itself, or b) as a sticker in a prominent location on the product when it has no such packaging. That way the stores get all the benefits of the increased inventory controls of RFID, and the public won't have to worry about any of the potential abuses.

This would also be a great step in the direction of removing all those unsightly barcodes from everything :)

When I can just get some basic info quickly on a mobile phone without hassle - movie times, directions, etc - then I'll be interested.

I think the internet on mobile phones is totally overrated. Companies should be providing automated "voice mail"-like systems over conventional phone lines, that can be called from a mobile phone. For example, here in Edmonton (Alberta, Canada), the transit system has a phone number you can call, 496-1600, and it gives you an interactive menu to get bus schedules, and I find this incredibly useful when waiting for the bus (it tells me how long I'll be waiting, and kills about a minute in the process). Movie theatres probably have something similar, and all that.

As far as I'm concerned, if you want the internet, get a PC, you'll have a much better experience.
