  1. partly correct on Microsoft: Because Bugs are Cool · · Score: 0, Redundant
Have you never heard people who are novice computer users, or even less, say things like "yeah word didn't do what I wanted it to do, it's a bug you know" or "yeah my Windows Me crashes all the time, it's because of Bill Gates and his buggy software. His software is full of bugs".

When in reality, these computer users know nearly nothing about computers. They know how to surf the net and tell people about "things they've heard" and so on. It's really annoying.

Sure, Word has bugs. Windows Me has bugs. What about the users? Have they ever considered the possibility that they don't know everything about Word? Have they ever considered the possibility that they are using IE on lowest security level, accepting all sorts of scripts and downloads and spyware? Have they considered the possibility that they saw some cool register hack in a beginner's computer magazine, tried it and it didn't work well?

Mind you, some computer users, when asked what operating system they have, say things like "uhmmm, Windows 97? No, wait... Word 98?" They really are in no position to talk about what is a bug and what is not.

I apologize if you think me not believing in a god offends you. I apologize if my comment was too harsh (when I read it again, I see that it probably was). However, I don't see what it would help to turn to religion.

No, I wont say a small prayer. I suggest a scientific approach, if we want to decrease the probability of this happening next time.
But just because I'm not religious, doesn't mean I don't care about what happened, or that I don't care about the seven astronauts and their friends and families.

  4. what the causes may be on Space Shuttle Columbia Breaks Up Over Texas · · Score: 1
The Challenger exploded because the O-rings in the booster rockets disintegrated in the cold temperature. As far as I understand, there were misunderstandings combined with prestige that made them launch even though engineers knew the O-rings would operate in temperature outside its tolerance range. I doubt something like this was the cause this time, more likely, perhaps, failing controls that made the shuttle simply break up in the athmosphere (like the Soviet supersonic passenger aircraft decades ago).

And to all who feel like joking about this; don't.
Even if it may have therapeutical value to YOU, it definitely wont for most other people. I can tolerate people joking about unmanned rockets that fails, even if I wouldn't do that, either. But this is a MANNED spacecraft, with seven human beings most certainly killed. There is nothing fun about that.

  13. good science fiction? on Top 10 New Sci-Fi/SF Authors? · · Score: 1

Good sci-fi is hard to find.

I have read only a rare few authors that are good enough for me; Arthur C Clarke (Excellent stories, great characters), Eugen Semitjov (Fascinating ideas carried out very well), Carl Sagan (well it's Carl Sagan, do we need to say anything there?).

Problem with a lot of the science fiction is that it's so hard to predict the future. Basically, people add future technology as they see it, but doesn't update anything else. A lot of the sci-fi today is just not good. It's unrealistic (sure it's sci-fi, but you know what I mean) a lot of the times.

This is obviously not true. However it IS true that if you're a liberal, you're a liberal. And yes, you DO care what the rest of the world thinks, or else you wouldn't butt into the rest of the world's affairs all the time. But what is just as bad is that when I played Doom, I also found myself moving around with the chair (which had wheels) and when sneaking around i shifted my position in the chair to get a better look around the corner. Sad, really...
