I think the mutatability of HIV is the reason that it needs examples from your own body.
I would guess that a generic HIV sample will have been less effective in previous studies, hence when the trial reached humans, using their own samples produced the results we are glimpsing at. Had a generic been effective previously, there would be no need for a HIV sample from the patient.
The guy is an icon, people like what he has to say. And yes I do think he would do well here regardless of history, because he has a simple down to earth writing style.
Whilst Wil's mod totals are impressive, hes still not top of the pile yet (sorry Wil!). For the king of moderations look no further than John Carmack, note however, that the mods are for different reasons, Johns are clever geek god type stuff, Wil uses humour and makes light of situations:)
There was more to this hack up this morning (see comments further down or other sites).
Most of it seems to have been removied, but because of the simplicity of this, it appears as though it got forgotten about.wholey agree though, I didn't initially notice anything wrong when told to go look.
Beep.... You: "Hang on, ive got another call" You: Click "Hello?" Caller: "Hello, this is the RIAA, stop singing happy birthday to your grandson on the other side of the world."
If you send out a program to 100,000 machines (for instance) and tell them all to slowly attack a server, how can you make sure that they don't all jump in at once without some form of central control? This screensaver is effectively a botnet just like the viruses setup. If the attack dogs from these 100,000 machines all decide to slowly attack the Lycos central server (because the pesky scammer decided to point his domain to the Lycos server IP), its feasible that it will become overloaded itself, and be unable to send the "stop" signal.
I had read the (tiny) article this morning when it was posted on the Reg, and I had reread it earlier.
Their screensaver operates by sending misc packets to a spammers named server.
They say they control how many/how fast those packets are sent in order that its not a DOS attack.
This would imply central server organisation "Bomb xyz.com" "Stop bomb xyz.com" commands coming from a Lycos server, since no individual computer could detect that its little insignificant packet could tip the server over the edge.
If the spammers changed the DNS to point at Lycos server, then the Lycos server could become the target of the DOS itself, and be unable to send out "Stop bombing xyz.com" hence it would continue.
Its got sweet FA to do with domain hijacking or DNS issues.
If you have a system thats already infected and spewing out gobs of spam etc, then an extra couple of minutes monitoring and identifying the running processes/folders in use etc will save a large amount of time than panicing and shutting it down instantly.
Damn! Am I the only one who pictured boob implants bouncing around under their own power!
Reality took hold however as I read the article.
I would like to make use of all sorts of wasted energy, from heat output as you say, to floor vibration/noise pollution. I think at the moment, the setting up costs would be prohibitive, and the efficiency on a single user scale wouldn't be practical.
But if you consider doing it in a large office block, or a school, then the idea might not be so bad.
If we could recycle even 5-10% of the wasted energy, then its better for us all.
Take a minute to think about that-300 73-inch rectangles floating in rows in a dim warehouse, all lit with the light of games. They are all linked together, and then linked to others around the country, and all around the gaming world.

Thats right, allow an image to be displayed directly on our front page.
The enemy WOULDN'T make use of that now would they?
Buy this nice shiney new gaping arsehole!
I don't think you can Pause windows update, so waking up to find out your connection is tied for an unknown length of time will be a bit annoying.
Plant your SCO Unix workstation and watch as the little seedling develops and grows into a full sized Lawyer.

You grew up with space around you, have you considered going back?
Would you go up on SpaceShipOne, or would you prefer to keep your feet firmly on the ground?
Don't be silly.
;)
Microsoft uses Apache

audio in/out
RC Bot: "Hi, ASL?"
Mine: "!!!"
Beep....

Caller: "Hello, this is the RIAA, stop singing happy birthday to your grandson on the other side of the world."
so this may not become as ubiquitous as HDs in MP3 players
But do you still see people with cassette based walkmans, or has everyone now gone "digital"?

Lots of people are saying he should be checking himself into a clinic.
:(
I personally think he should be checked into CVS.
Thats way, at least we have a backup..just in case
It had the magic word RFID in the body.

Its as much a sure fire winner as putting "on the internet" in a patent application
I hear American Airlines have a great daily service.

Shows how long it takes for some ideas to come around.
Thats from the archive of stuff published in 1997

I think that you just slashdotted someones holiday!
Don't spend it all at once.
You will have to give some back this afternoon when it gets duped!
:( sucks to be you.
The game is all about dictators and fighting against the system.
Take your crowbar to Valve HQ and beat some chicken heads to a pulp.
Good luck in gettin it sorted, the game is actually well worth playing if you comply.
But what if it is you as a legit customer that gets banned?
Who else thought of the matrix when they read:

It's a huge idea, and it feels like the future
