Depending on how you want to think about it, it was funny or inevitable or symbolic that the robotic takeover did not start at MIT, NASA, Microsoft or Ford. It started at a Burger-G restaurant in Cary, NC on May 17, 2010. It seemed like such a simple thing at the time, but May 17 marked a pivotal moment in human history.
What if you got the camera without realising it? What if its been sat in a drawer for years 'cos it worked "sometimes" and you didn't find a real use because of the stability? What if it was second hand? Some people cannot afford to waste money buying extra kit and won't look the gift horse in the mouth.
We have become such a wasteful generation. If something doesn't quite work right, we throw it away.
Cameras are technically simple and most will work in a similar manner (theres only so many ways you can send the same data across a wire). My bet is this guy has created a core driver and is using variants on the devices, this allows all those useless cameras before to now be usable. There must be millions of similar working devices around the world.
Why bitch at him for helping?
People now won't have to suffer with crap 'cos they can be made to work well (apparently). props to him.
Make all digg articles as long as this. That way its simply a case of attrition to see if people can scroll far enough to "digg it". chances are they will lose interest when something shiney in the sidebar [AMAZING!!!!! PICTURES!!!!!] catches their eye.
If you start to ask them to filter one specific thing then it means they are taking away their impartiality. wasn't Common carrier status meant to mean "If you start to manage the traffic of the customer, you start to become liable for it"?
The most reliable printer I ever owned was a citizen 120d Never ever had a problem with clogged pores or not working - even leaving it months without use and coming back would miraculously find it still works - just like a typewriter.
Ribbons were as cheap as biro pens. For 99% of the printouts I need, I could still happily use one.
If its at the wall, won't internal sharing continue? Just because you can stop the data coming in via p2p means doesn't mean the data won't be there (waste/DC can exist in a private garden without ever touching the real net).
Or is this an active process which does a portscans your machine continuously?
Failing everything else, there is always sneakernet. Expect a rise in blanks in the area.
No, I think its right to point out the limitations and practicalities of installing certain software. However, I believe they should be stated in one legible none scrolling frame. Further information can be linked to any point, but what a user sees upon installation are clear plain English terms.
People will bitch 'cos its the wrong colour. Then people will moan about the people moaning. Then people will moan about the moaners. Then people will start blocking those complaining about the people bitching. Then those blocked will begin spamming. Finally those who said they were blocking someone will finally learn how to actually block someone and tell everyone else about it. Then people will moan about the instructions and that they are not n00bies. Then the people moaning will block each other. Finally someone will post something about the fact I used English spelling to complain about the colour;)
Please *deity* wipe my mind of the thought of the Governator wearing a prom dress.
Well now finally we know what the movie overlords meant when they said:
All your base are belong to us.
Sorry mate, your version of the player must have been updated.
That key is just uninitialised memory.
Yes, they had a huge code, but there wasn't enough space in the margin to fit it in.
Who will win the Pyrite medal?

The first link is in the future.
Clicking it will result in a temporal vortex opening up and taking away your internets.
My take on this is that standard def freeview will continue, but if you want a HD version you need 2 boxes?

PS, have I just found a way to do a hyperspace firstpost and actually opened this article up for other posting early?
if so, sorry taco it wasn't me *looks for the exit*
I wonder what level are they blocking?

This isn't the first time socket sharing has occured
The old Socket 7 used to fit Intel and AMD and Cyrix.
Hell, it can even house socket 5 cpus!
Back then it wasn't a big deal to upgrade a CPU.
All the companies started changing sockets at a frantic pace and made a simple CPU update essentially mean a whole machine.
A new motherboard for the new socket but it also has new memory footprint as well so that gets replaced, and the PCIx slot won't fit my agp card.
Thats useful timing.
When is 10.5 coming out?
I would go with MSN, but I'd be thinking of Altavista.
Hell yeah. ;)
I can't wait to play Duke Nukem
People will bitch 'cos its the wrong colour. ;)

It might be the top post today, but what about tomorrow or next month?
This is described in the blurb:
(The link is to another blog that reproduces Brewster's post, because Speculations has no permalink.)
His future on the ringworld is safe!
Bussard ramjets are vital to stability.
Why don't AMD switch to using Intel for their processors?
Look at how much good its done for Apple.
I get firefox crashing hard if I view any of the mac vs pc videos on their home page.
Other quicktime movies work fine.
It might be Jobs' way of showing me how crap life is on pcs.
