    By far the most annoying and ridiculous thing in Windows (and it's STILL in W2k and AFAIK XP) is when you do a large file operation, like moving or deleting a large group of files, it gives you an error because one of the files is locked or something and when you hit OK it stops.

    I still want all the other files that aren't locked to move. What idiot thought that up?

    As a vetran network admin I have to totally disagree with you. I am therefore going to lock out your account, restrict your rights to your files and re-direct your e-mail.

    Seriously though.... As a vetran network admin I'd have to say I've seen a lot of this myself. You ask the average guy looking for IT work what he thinks his job is and you hear things like manage accounts or maintain servers. Very seldom does the mention of another human come into it.

    It's the guy that says: help the end users do their jobs better that I give the job to.

    Finding a balance between security and flexibility is something that only comes with experience.

    Things like this were said by MANY computer industry "experts" before Y2k.

    There are a lot of people that work very hard to make computers exchange information. It doesn't just happen.

    You make a lot of assumptions.

    I monitor traffic as well as payload. The system I use is all open source and cost me nothing.

    That should also read:

    We very clearly outline net useage and who's responsible for what in our employee handbook.

    That way the responsibility goes both ways.

    We monitor ALL traffic entering and exiting our network.

    We don't hassle people about porno spam or the occasional mis-navigation to www..com. It's pretty obvious when someone is really surfing porn or doing anything else inappropriate.

    Currently the majority of telemarketing companies don't call cell phone exchanges. If you put a land line number on your cell phone EXPECT to get telemarketing calls on it because they will no longer be able to filter your number by exchange.
