Yes, I'm more interested in how the UK allows `unlimited internet` of a few tens of megs per month. What's the penalty for these clowns breaking their promises? Court/legal action? Or a promise to "try harder"?
LOL! One of the 40 best new apps of the week by some shitty website (Android Police) for the first week in March 2011! Big time! Way to spam Slashdot, dude!
I find that very hard to believe. Parsley is, like Basil, one of those herbs it's pointless to buy dried as it has no flavour - it escaped with all the water when it was dried.
If you generally cook stir fries, roast, pizzas etc then no, you don't. It's very important if you're baking, though. Too much/little flour/egg/water/salt/yeast/sugar etc, and at too high/low a temperature for too short/long a time can ruin whatever you're attempting!
There's already a facebook app for all major platforms. There's no need for another one. Write something else. Write a game that doesn't suck for Android; for iPhone a way of searching a web page or pdf document for a given word.
I could give a shit too. Wait, no, actually I can't. Why are we talking about Eastern fucking Libya on Slashdot again? Are they about to stop sucking as hard as all those other beardy/shouty fuckwit run countries and do something vaguely nice/interesting/artistic/technical/humanitarian?
Aspects of the countries are important. We don't need to know about every last 20 min `popular uprising` which results in a few Twitter-related links becoming temporarily inconvenienced. Go and wave your shoes and point your little finger somewhere else.
Outsiders have no opinion on Linux, or "the Linux community". They seem fairly impressed with Linux-based mobile devices though. For some reason, "get a windows phone - have the windows quality and ease of use on your phone you enjoy on your pc" doesn't seem to be setting the world alight. Perhaps it's Microsoft and it's shoddy nonsense which is seen as toxic.
Hey, I hope your malware/virus checkers are up to date!
Hollywood exists to make money. You knew that, right? It's like the record industry. There was a time when people who cared about art made stuff like music and films for the love of it. That was before it was an industry. I really wouldn't act surprised about this sort of thing any longer. It's never going to change. The bean counters look at something, figure out which 'celebrity' would make the most money, consider the sequels, merchandising, computer games etc and then sort out funding etc, and finally make the film. The idea that they're going to do anything remotely progressive/experimental/different/good is just not on the checklist. You work in IT, right? You work with nerds who love code, but you work for a cunt in a suit, who mixes with other cunts in suits who struggle to understand the problems you face at work and end up siding with management rather than you when things go wrong. That's business. That's the IT business, it's the music business, it's the movie business.
Country? The mud and the trees? Or the government? What if the government does bad things. You have to go along with it? "Just following orders", right?
Maybe even a working touch-screen..you know, with multitouch? And a fix for some of the other shit like floods of events when you touch the screen. Oh, and fix that slow float directbuffer put. Put some effort into making Android gaming platform. That way you might get some games which don't completely suck. Angry Birds is ok, but jesus fucking christ - is an public domain quality Amiga game the best we can do on a 1ghz+ platform 20 years on?
Yeah, but the Japanese don't make shit stuff now. The Chinese do. So history is irrelevant. That's why you'll see, for example, photographers asking how to identify the lenses made outside China. Perhaps if the Chinese employees stop killing themselves and pay more attention to detail they'll lose the `cheap shit made in prisons by kids` somewhat sooner than in 40 years time...
And since the terrible, terrible visual update to Slashdot they've lost the `news for nerds - stuff that matters` tag. And not before time; this story, like so many others here recently, is neither.
> Part of the supposed value in iTunes and Androids marketplace is that the applications are submitted, > reviewed, and only added if they are up to snuff.
The value of Android's marketplace is that anyone can add anything.
The first dog to be killed in obit? Meh. Kids are putting stuff almost into orbit now. Landing a man on the moon, and bringing him back in one piece? That's a little harder. I mean, there must be an order or 5 of magnitude difference between the two otherwise the Russians would have ticked that one off the list too, right?
Not really. It's an Android phone (yeah, I know - you're probably as confused as I am that Sony didn't follow Nokia and go down the "Microsoft Kin v2" route.). So there's already a bunch of games/apps out there. Hopefully this will provide the same spur to other manufacturers to come up with some improvements to their own phones with regard to games that the HTC Desire/Nexus One did around a year ago.
I took the piss out of that site more than anything. I wish you all the best with your application sales.

Well duh - they're not called "Imperialist infidel scum" for no reason...
Also "the seeds of" means "not".
No, Sokal was specifically going after `post-modernist loons`, not anti-science as a whole.

When can they order you to keep them? At the start of an investigation? Isn't that a little too late?
I was waiting for it to blow up or do something interesting!

What idiot doesn't back up their Gmail email if it's important to them?
> Try new Google Instant Razor (beta), it starts shaving as soon as you pick it up.
Until you turn it off because it's annoying and because you don't want a razor which starts as soon as you pick it up!

They're shooting Facebook users? Perhaps it's worth highlighting the dangers of Twitter and Yahoo in Libya too? That's worth considering.
