    Google also shot themselves in the dick by playing the artificial scarcity card; you had to get an invitation to use certain services, so a lot of people just said "fuck it" and skipped the whole mess.

    Why was the App able to grab the data?

    Because people click on "Allow". If an app asks for data that it has no need to know, including your email, phone number, friends list, location, momentum, etc., about 99.314% of users will just allow everything.

    Of course if the smartest animal on the planet wouldn't simply toss dogs and cats, and puppies and kittens, into the wild because it didn't want to care for them, this wouldn't be an issue.

    For the record, I've never seen mice toss dogs/cats/puppies/kittens into the wild - for any reason.

    You clearly don't understand Facebook's "target" audience: everyone. Every [man|woman|genderfluid|otherkin|*] - which is why they've infiltrated so many other platforms to slurp in their data, whether they actually use the facebook app/site or not.
