I too am a registered Libertarian. I voted for Micheal Badnarik last time around. I was really leaning towards Senator Obama (wasn't fond of a few things about Senator Paul) but with this vote, I am leaning heavily towards voting for Mr. Barr after I do some more research. I also made sure to send an email to the Obama Campaign to let them know they lost a vote and why.
I am so done with the two party system.
Yea, a real system where I have to hope that all my drivers work with the new game, and that I have to run a spyware scan on, and that takes 20+ minutes to install the game, and that I get to sit at a desk instead of my comfortable couch, and that I get to play on a 17" monitor instead of my 54" hi-def tv. Yea, a real system!
Um... People driving the speed limit in the far left lane are obeying the law. The slow lane is not for people doing 60, but people doing 50 or 40 in a 60 zone.
And just to be an ass... It warms my heart to piss of folks when I do the posted speed in the fast lane. To see all your little faces get scrunched up in anger. All I can think of is how you will have a heart attack soon while you drive 20 mph over the speed limit while talking on your cell phone, drinking your coffee and eating your breakfast. Leaves more room on the road for me later.
I had a problem with my wired connection. I had about 80' of Cat 5e (Xbox 360 in the basement, router is upstairs) and kept getting MTU errors. I tried the three different usb wireless 'cards' I had and nothing worked. I finally just dropped the $86 on the official wireless adapter (found it on sale in my town) and I got connected. Problem is it was a crappy connection that would drop every coupld of hours. Then I realized that I was connected to someones router that was almost two blocks away. I set the SSID properly and now I have a solid connection to the router in the house. It may be a spendy peripheral, but I feel it was worth it. Especially knowing that even living across the street from a power station and all the high energy wires over head that I can still connect to a neighbor down the street if I need too:)
I play my Xbox, Gamecube, PS2, Dreamcast, PC, board games, card games, ccg's, casual puzzle games, word games, outdoor games, etc.
I am _so_ tired of the entire concept that my gaming has to be bleeding edge. I play WoW with the built in graphics chip on my mobo. My moded Xbox is used mostely for mame roms (on my 55" non high defenition tv). Hell, I own a 20 year old copy of Hoyles rules for card games. I don't want to pay $600 for a game system that looks hot on tech I don't want and plays the same f'ing style of game I got tired of years ago. Give me multiplayer co-op puzzle games. Give me some non-violent interactive entertainment that is not made for children. I have been gaming for over 25 years, since I first died of dysentery on a Commodore 64. Don't tell me that dedicated gamers aren't interested in the Wii.
Now get off my lawn you damn kids!
Pledge works very well. It is what I use as well as what I suggested to customers when I used to do technical support for GT Interactive / Humongous Entertainment.
I only get limited cable (the first 28 channels) and even then only because it is effectivly free with my cable internet. I watch movies and tv shows on DVD instead of TV. I get a movie from Blockbuster (using there DVD by mail system), watch it that night, then send it back the next morning. I have something new to watch pretty much every night with their 3 dvd at a time deal.
Ond for those womdering, the entire I use Blockbuster over netflix is because I do not have a credit card nor a debit card. Blockbuster offers ETF directly from checking accounts.
I used to be on the team that did complience testing for the original Xbox. I did it for a year. We would get roughly 3 hours to go through the test cases (with a lab of about 12 - 15 people) and if it failed any of the tests the game would go back. We would usually see the game again in a aday or two and go through all the tests again. Companies often negotiated over which bugs where truley important, and some bugs would be allowed to slide through. The really funny bit is that I later worked for MSG doing the same thing to do pre compliance testing because none of the Microsoft games were passing. Neat work but very frustrating at times.
The bugs we checked for were only stuff that MS wanted consistant. Buttons looked correct when displayed in the game, hard drive access was done correctly, error messages were consistant and used correct verbage, etc. We didn't do game play testing.
Comments on console freeplay have been noted. We plan on having things go much smoother for freeplay next year. Hopefully more consoles and a better range of games. I am commited to making every year better than the previous. But I am crazy that way.
I have a friend who got his Master's in CS while I spent the entire time he was in school working technical support and IT work. He got out of school and he couldn't even get a testing job. 3 years after getting his Master's he finaly recently got a job as a junior java programer. Meanwhile I have been in the field the entire time getting constant experience doing what I want to do and I am making more money than he is with no college education at all. Keep that in mind when looking for work. For every one of you with a Master's in CS there are 100's of us that have the real world experience to fill the same exact position. The only way you will get the same job over me is if you are willing to take less money than I am.
This was first being tested in Texas earlier this year. They found that it was way too easy to fake a fingerprint. There is also a grocery store in the Seattle area that was trying this tech, and if I remember correctly has decided to bail on it because of the ease of fraud.

I used to be in the SCA as part of a pirate ship. I have been waiting for today since I started working in this data center :)
I dressed up for the occasion. Me boss just keeps looking at me and shaking his head.
