A bottle of alien blood in the abandoned Hangar 18. A dark murky liquid, it will turn your hands a metallic bronze color. When you go to wash it off, it dies your hands a shockingly bright hot pink color.
Woohoo! No shit! I thought I LOVED my last job. Got laid off (aka canned) basically for "not conforming." Was devastated, really didn't see it coming. Spent three months out of work, which was terrifying in this economy. Even though I'm usually pretty confident in my abilities, this time it really shook my confidence.
But... Got a job in January (Of all months!! It's tough to get a job in January in a GOOD economy!) with a very well known company, and although I dropped "in title", my actual work responsibilities are far more - Like architect/lead engineer.
Just put my first app (Which I wrote all DAL/BLL/Presentation layer, with much kudos to the DB guy who I worked with - he's been with the company long enough to actually know the data of the company, without which I would have failed miserably! I can write stored procs all day long, but there's the harder part of actually knowing the data.) for the new company into production yesterday, did a presentation for really upper management today - and they were ECSTATIC about it!!! I was really amazed, having been the "bad kid" for way too long at the last place.
My confidence is back, I just got a second guy (contractor for now) to start on my "team" yesterday who had been out of work for 5 months, so I also get the warm fuzzy of helping out a guy in need. (And never knew him until yesterday, he moved over 1000 miles to take the job, so no "nepotism" type stuff going on.)
And, I've heard the old place is really having a lot of trouble now. (Best of luck to them, really! They are deep down the wrong path.) So although I wondered if my career had come to a complete halt when I was terminated, instead it was the best thing that's happened in a long time. So I totally get the "I've been released from prison" feeling!:)
Wow, until this moment, I've never given any serious thought to getting my dear old grandma some bionic eyes! At 93, she's still there mentally, but the Macular Degeneration has made her all but completely blind.
What a trip, getting my grandma a bionic eye is now actually on the menu. Cool, the six million dollar grandma!
How much are they thinking the device and the surgery is going to cost?
That would make for quite strange family gossip: Did you hear that Grandma T got a bionic eye implanted the other day?
I think Windows is officially in the fading phase of its existence: Adobe has FINALLY (After first announcing it way back in 2003) released a 64 bit Flash player - and it's for Linux, not Windows. I think that's the first time I've ever seen a major release of anything coming out on Linux first.
Now we can go on and on about the suckitude of Flash and it's overuse, but I still think this Linux-only release is a great turning point for Windows and Linux. Especially now that word about worse DRM is in place on Windows 7. The latest flop of a dying fish.
I play bass and I play GH. I find that while it's no good for training you how to use more than one "string" (They should put 4 to 6 strum switches on it to make it somewhat more realistic...) I have found that I've noticed my timing, finger strength, and left hand dexterity have improved greatly.
Most guitarists that dislike GH simply haven't put some time in. GH take practice too. If the non-guitar playing dork across the room just kicked your ass in Smoke on the Water, then you need to do more practicing and less whining.
Get into it, it's fun, especially from a guitar-player's point of view.
And the only way to impress the women these days is if you can switch off between a real guitar and GH "guitar" and be equally skilled on both!! Let me tell you - I thought my friend did pretty good with the ladies when playing live in a band. Until he started jamming on a tiny plastic twanger thingy, then they were all over him! You can do it if you try. And if you act now, we'll throw in TWO electric twangers.
20 minutes? I'd say a whole weeks worth of listings data is no more than a megabyte. What's the bandwidth on an HDTV channel? Something immense I'm sure. Store the channel scan results in flash, no need to rescan each time. Download a meg of text, parse and store it, and you're up and running in two or three seconds.
Are you FUDding for an energy company or something? Several hundred million devices suddenly using 200 times less power has got to be worrying the publicly traded energy companies.
Hold off on the ASP.NET MVC stuff for now. It's really a pathetic implementation at this point.
Stuck with only basic HTML controls, nearly none of the more advanced ASP.NET controls work, as most continue to rely heavily on ViewState which isn't supported with the MVC framework.
So until they convert most of the advanced controls, it's just going to create more work to use it.
Worse than Ruby on Rails for now, but give them time...
I just love when people who know nothing about ASP.NET attempt to critique things:
The whitehouse.gov site has long ASP.NET IDs. There are many elements on the page that have very long IDs, which are mainly a waste of bandwidth usually. They could be easily removed on the server side.
Sorry bud, they can't really be removed on the server side - these are controls embedded in controls embedded in controls. Maybe a slight shaving of rptNavigationItems down to rptNavItms or something, but the long name is to be able to reference the embedded controls.
What we're really seeing is an underhanded attempt by big media to start gaining control over what is available on the internet. They want to get rid of all the small players and return us to the halcyon days of TV where we could only choose between CBS, ABC, and NBC. (PBS too, but who watched that?)
Once they get control of the gateways to the internet, then they start being able to put competitors on the block list, until we're back where we started. I expect it to take 10 to 20 years for the full plan to take effect. This ain't about the children at all.
No wonder us USians left their dumb asses centuries ago... Not that it's a whole lot better here, but certainly better than their mental shackles they are forcing on their populace for no good reason.

A Core 2 Duo ain't all that impressive, youngster...
Um, pretty much all? ActionScript is for newbs.
> Lesson Learned: It's more important to be nice than to get anything (useful) accomplished
Say what?? That's a slave's mentality.

Infected Mushroom makes Glass sound primitive.
Damn! Shut up already! The average moron will totally believe your rain concept.
Yes, the giant sea turtle it was built on swam away...

"Or at least the first part" - It's nearly morning here, so give me a break, but I totally cannot figure out what "the first part" means?
Still thinking before I post and look stupid. But I guess I am, here comes the click. :)
Anybody know if he's the same Mike Rowe from Mike Rowe Soft??
I've had a black cat since 1994. When I got it, I lived in a trailer house in the middle of Nebraska.
Now I live in several multi-million dollar mansions scattered across the world and have three jets and a NASCAR racecar.
For a living, I act sad about the "recession" (Oh haha, if you only knew...) and tell people how bad things are for me.
Then I cruise out on my hyperdrive helicopter and back to my home planet.
Silly rabbit, civilizations are not for humans.

Just think of this: when you buy GH: PacMan Fever Edition, you can actually "Plunk your electric twanger, Froggy."
That ended up pretty rambling. Hope you enjoyed...
No Jump in the Fire? WTF?
The Postman was a cool movie. It did help to have already read the book though. How many people who hated the movie have read the book?
Tom Petty as the balloon man? Don't get much cooler...
Archival DVD rated at 300 years. It might not last 300 years, but hopefully it'd last long enough for this time capsule.

Hmmm... I've yet to get the shit beat out of me on the internet, but have gotten my ass kicked at a playground a couple times.
Which is more dangerous?
What the fuck is wrong with England anyway?
