Heres to hoping that the Hypertransport consortium becomes to Apple what the CHRP spec always promised to do. Common specs + multiple vendors (apple, amd and who else?) = cheaper prices for everyone. From what I gathered the first area we will see the hypertransport spec will be in connecting the PCI bridge and various components like that - not processor to memory connections. But that said, it seems to me Apple is really jumping on the right bandwagon here, anything that moves the platform away from this starved processor pc133 ram shit is in my opinion A Very Good Thing.
And yes i will be selling both my macs to get a ppc970 the day they come out.

I have had a special place in my heart for Corel for years, and now they are going the way of so many before them who tried to unsurp the Redmond juggernaut. Honestly I am suprised they are worth 22 million, Knockout and Paint aren't what the used to be and Corel Office is dead in the water. Maybe they will go the way of Atari, not even a company anymore but a brand that is labeled on things that the corporate office wants to draw attention to.

an admittedly sorry (compared ot real dvd) theatre shot copy of matrix. no 6 channel sound, no hdtv and progressive scan quality, and no director commentary.
There is only one way to convince them change their business model so that it supports us and not just their stockholders, and thats to nearly drive them into the ground and let smaller indie companies back in the fray. The dam has been unleashed when it comes to the pirating of digital media. You can make a case for not pirating software, but things like the Itunes music store and the iPod would not exist today if the big 5 labels had a choice in the matter. Look at their intentions with copy protected CD's and shutting down and spoofing sites as long ago as scour.net (the original online 2-3 years before napster)...
Holy shit! you should like, be an editor or something, thats a real fucking scoop you came up with there. i feel bad even wasting a minute to deride you for it.
Next up: Dell sold more PC's than Apple last year. Also, stay tuned for this ground breaking expose that the Mac OS is actually easier to use and install than *nix of your choice.
Your right, only a huge Hollywood conglomerate would have the resources to pay someone who can't act $30M to play the lead role, and come up with a marketing machine that will make Americans "95% brand aware" of their movie. How foolish we would be to try attain such a level of quality. At least my movies wouldn't rely on product placement, media pressure or company stockholder demands....
Hell this keeps sounding better, maybe we _should_ drive all these media companies out of business. Here is the deal: they can buy up all the media outlets (like the FCC just bowed down and gave them the right to do) program them with homogenized crap with harldy even resembles art, and then sell you the right to watch/listen to (but not own) thier crap for $20 a CD and $30 a DVD until everyone wakes up and realizes that its in our best interests to steal from them and drive em out of business.
(at this point I would post a Matrix Reloaded torrent link, but you should really take the time and look around. torrent sites are great for all kinds of TV/movies/anime)
Well its not here yet, but SCO is going to be victorious in their rightful attempts at protecting their copyrights, and more power to 'em! We need these underdog companies to keep innovation alive against the zealot linux/ibm hordes....
"QuickTime 6.3 delivers extensive support for the 3GPP standard, including Advanced Audio Coding (AAC) and Adaptive Multi-Rate (AMR) audio, MPEG-4 and H.263 video, 3G Text (TX3G) and native.3gp file format support."
Of course AAC support and MPEG-4, but what the hell is 3G text?
[The new Quicktime is] the industry's first mainstream solution to support the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) standard and to deliver a foundation for the creation, delivery and playback of rich multimedia content over wireless networks.
More coming from Apple and that DoCoMo partnership I guess? I would love to have QT capabilities on my cel.....
Apple does license the fraunhofer (or whatever) codec and therefore at some point we (apple users) do pay for it. look through the "Legal" menu on an ipod, you will see it somewhere down there (and its also listed in the "About iTunes" popup).
so yes (and no), mp3 encoders/decoders do lie in some weird legal state, but i think herr fraunhofer is probably to busy thanking the gods to go hunt down everyone using LAME.
that is why i encoded all my (500) cd's at 256k mp3. not b/c its a better format or its lining frauhofer's pockets, but because i can listen to em anywhere.
let me see your:
dvd player, ipod, car cd player and home component cd player play an ogg and then i still wont change because in 5 years they still wont be making ogg stuff.
im osrry i wanted ogg to work too but its just not happening. that said apple telling me to encode my shit using AAC is about as likely as my using WMA.
mp3 may not be 'open' but its about as close as you can get these days and still actually use and enjoy your audio when/where you would like.
Then Apple will wait and then deliver what we are really looking for in this package. Not to say that this AV Jukebox is a slack product, quite the contrary, its actually almost feature bloated. That and its size, weight (big weight, tiny screen),and cost are going to turn many off besdies early adopters.
I say Apple not only because the iPod was the answer to the original Jukebox but also the Knowlege Navigator (see: http://www.billzarchy.com/clips/clips_apple_nav.ht m ). Apple has had products like this in the skunkworks for a good while, but it seems after the Newton panned and Palm took over that Apple has switched to a "wait, see, and capitalize" approach (see also flagging tablet PC sales).
You know that would be a killer product. Having owned a Powerbook and a few desktop Macs I get used to having the 2 button scroll on my desktops, not that ctrl+clicking is that bad (esp on a laptop where your hands arent really going to ever be but a few inches from the keys) but its still annoying. Should Apple change and make 2 button track-pads? No, and we arent going to get into why. But would I buy a replacement 2 button pad? Ya damn right.
"Bob, how much would you like to wager on our first test?... All of em?.. He's going to shoot the works! or "main-line it" as we call it here on 'Let's Make a Dope Deal'!"
Games make as much or more as most blockbuster movies these days...And honestly how much "art" creeps through onto screens these days? Sadly there is almost no room for an "indie game" scene on the console front because of restrictive hardwar and licenses and an uphill battle against the ginats on the PC side.
ViewtifulJoe and Shenmue and even MetalSlug 3 are proof that the 2-D platform hasnt really been explored to their fullest, and with open engines like Quake 3-D you can still develop on the cheap... But marketing, well who cares if its great if no one ever hears of it.
Enough with the spelling nazi bullshit. Why not try to, I don't know, further the discussion instead of pointing out typo's and spelling errors (which I will admit I made more than a few in the original post).

-Just waiting for Apple to get their Finder-FTP working with read/write!-
Jesus Christ I should make that my sig! How in hell can Apple have a built in FTP client that wont say.....upload files or play nice with just about anyhting? For the love of god Apple, dont include things that dont work and are only going to irritate me (cough iCal 1.0 cough). Its hard to tout a feature only to say "yeah its great, i have a built in FTP client, seamless with the finder! whats that? does it work? well no, but its there!"
I know this is mad offtopic but I banged my head against the finder ftp for too long to not add my 2 cents.
-- the source of the copy, suggesting it's from a film or digital source rather than a cinema-screen-leech--
Howabout going after themselves? I remeber a few days before Episode II came out I had a copy...and it was terrible. Sure I watched it and was wowed but when the movie came out I still went and saw it. Now if YOUR OWN COMPANY leaks a pristine digital copy it seems to me that the problem is your own company and not a file format (.torrent). And as many people pointed out, Ive seen matrix twice now and I garuntee you anyone searching out reloaded on bit torrent is A. a huge fan and B. will or has already shelled out to see it.
If they start to sue individual users since there is no company ill boycot the 3rd movie. Just like ill never buy a CD again (i support my artists by buying a tshirt at concerts, that is where they make money) the only thing you can do these days is vot with your dollar.
You guys (and gals) talk so much shit about the MPAA but who pays their salaries? You do. Everytime you see the matrix / LOTR your paying their lawyers to hunt people down. Never forget that.
-Then maybe america should move out of the dark ages sometime.-
But honestly its (the kilo) as arbitrtary as any other unit we have come up with to describe reality (red, one second, a kilometer) so why rewrite the bible as it were and change something like this? I know the implications could be staggering, but why not chalk it up to having a leap year and other silly things about our units of measurment.
