its hard enough for them to support windows users and all of there troubles, looking from a buisness point of view why should they help linux users? If you are going to run linux and want support from isp, either just fake it and act like you are running windows, or understand that they probably dont have resources to help you.

Although even when I do fake it and act like a windows user sometimes they still can be unhelpfull and on some occasions even rude.

Im posting from one, and I love it.

Its extremely light weight, extremely thin, barely ever gets hot enough to be uncomfortable, and even has a pretty good battery life.

The downside is that it sometimes a little slow, like when I want to open up openoffice it takes a bit of time. The other downside is no floppy/cdrom.

Btw lindows sucks, the best thing I did to it was install RH9.

Overall I would give this laptop a 9 out of 10.

Lindows is nothing special, they dont offer any software that makes linux more user friendly, all they do is modify existing software to be more like windows and attempt to hide the guts of the machine(no icon for terminal, no compiler, lack of basic command line tools, etc)

Besides.. alot of the larger planes have phones built into the seats anyway, why not just use those?

And for those of you who need to play nibbles or whatever... you need to unplug and get more fresh air or something.

we should punish those people who try to use cell phones by taking thier cell phone away and making them use satalite phones(when they get off the plane that is)

correct, I purchased the lindows laptop. It has no floppy and no cdrom drive.. I have to use a usb-cdrom to boot. Just for kicks before I put on RH9 I wanted to see if windows would install. Windows 98/2000 WONT INSTALL from a usb-cdrom, and XP sucks a nut anyway so its not worth it.

In short anecdotal evidence based on a single machine doesn't mean a whole lot.

I dont expect RH9 to work for everyone under every situation, its working great for me and I say atleast give it a try.

One thing I suggest is try and stick with packages that came with redhat if possible to avoid version conflicts. If the package sent with redhat doesn't work with what you need to install, remove the package and build whatever you need from source.

It might just be that RH 9 suits the hardware im using very well, but I cant say the same things about any of the previous versions. Well thats my suggestion.

after taking calc III, Ive come up with a great way to describe 4d objects.

    Example, take a room, it has 3 standard dimensions, now lets add another dimension, lets say temperature. Now we have a 4d object, we could even try and make a function to model temperature based on postion, temp = f(x,y,z);

You can even do neat things like make 3d objects out of 4d objects by taking a level surface of the 4d object. In simpler terms, take all of the points in the room that are one temperature, that will form a 3d object.

I think the easiest way to portray a 4d object is by using colour. Image taking a pair of thermal gogles and walking around a room. The only problem is that a colour approach cant be used for rubix cubes, becuase colour is already used to distinguish different sides of the cube. Perhaps to visualize a 4d rubix cube the different sides of the cube could be represented by shapes, or perhaps a numbering system. I think that taking the 4d cube and trying to flatten it into 3d looks ugly.

One of the big problems we solved was the printing UI. Using CUPS as the backend, most printers are now automatically detected and configured, even if they're on the network. We also added a simple printer configuration wizard. Configured Printers show up in your file manager and can be easily reconfigured to change things like paper sizes, using a familiar interface. Small things matter: your printer jobs appear on the panel until they are done, so you know when to pick up the results. Large things matter too: when printing from an application, just click on the printer you want to print to. For most people, this solves the Linux printing problem pretty well.
