Take a course in assembly, you will learn a lot about programming on the hardware level. It might take you a couple of semesters to get to a high enough level to do graphics, but you will have a much clearer picture of programming in general, wether it be c/c++/java/perl/php/whatever.
You might even become really intrested in it go for a major in computer engineering.
Perhaps more importantly, this network would be verymuch unreliable... $20 in equipment to make a device that interrupts all 802.11b/g signals in the area. That's not going to be a good thing if EBAY wants to put a site up...
I agree.. how could a network with no actual backbone last any sort of time, especially when its first starting off when fewer people have the equipment. A network purely based on 802.11 would need an incredable amount of redudancy.
Also while this plan might sound good going from city to close city (10-20 miles away), what happens when you run into a dessert or a mountain? There are physical problems with a network like that.
With current technology and current level of technology craze, I would say this project would be impossible.
well I waited for the whole thing to download and it looks like every other hubble picture ive seen just a whole lot bigger. Guess it shows im not an astronomer.
so put a normal computer, camera, fax, printer, scanner, tv, mobile phone, kitchen sink, etc, into one unit.
problems
a) price b) what happens when a single part of the unit breaks down? c) what ever happened to do one thing, and do it well? d) interface, how are you going to operate all that shit at the same time, better yet how are you going to operate one part of it when the controls for the rest of it are getting in the way? e) looks, is it just me or does that labtop/camera look like hell?
its true that some things NATURALLY go together, but a camera and a labtop dont fit the bill
Is it just me or is way so much emphasis being put on having a small product? I dont want to have to squint my eyes and use a needle to operate my computer. Any smaller then a laptop and its just not comfortable to use.
I disagree.. communism would be an execellent system, if it wasn't for one thing, human nature. The natural desire to do less work and have more money is the downfall of communism. So instead of communism we have capitilism, which exploits human nature.
perhaps this area of mathamatics should be left alone, I would rather think I have a girlfriend becuase we love each other then our equations match or something.
one) time based purely on rotation of earth on axis, so when earth time reads noon, there will always be a sun straight up in the sky
two) a sort of universal time, like a "star date" from star trek, meaning that when the star date increments in one unit, that the earth time might be out of whack.
Who cares if in a 1000 years the earth is on the other side of the sun, as long as in 1000 years noon is still daylight
"This article tells of lab rats who've built a cell phone/PDA/GPS device that also lets you surf the web and, oh, yeah, sniff out any dirty bombs that might have gone off in your area..."
ok if a bomb goes off and you need a friggin PDA to figgure out where, I would say your beyond help.
What would slashdot do if SCO would shop sueing people? Slashdot could be in trouble, after all it would loose half of its daily articles.
s/ants/fish/
then you have a cool case
why does simpsons come to mind?
Im picturing homer in space when the ants get loose in the space ship.
"no Linux Geek"
thats way to specific, you mean "nobody at all"

thats asuming they HIT the stop sign and not there foot or the wind shield
oh ok.. you want to put everything in one unit,

so what happens when the trolls figure that out and start posting DUPE!!! on articles that arent dupes?
Is it just me or is way so much emphasis being put on having a small product? I dont want to have to squint my eyes and use a needle to operate my computer. Any smaller then a laptop and its just not comfortable to use.
perhaps you two should consider contacting fat chuck, see if you can get your music on his site
1) "start the revolution"
2) get your music listed while its still being hit really hard by slashdot
just an idea

its not a matter of fear, its would I would prefer.
a) a world where every action is calculated/planned/predicted
b) a world where we feel that we make our own choices, based on our own free will
what would technology like that do to religion? what about government, will political races be decided by whos got the bigger computer?
if it comes to a, so be it.. but I would prefer b
I was thinking the same thing, but maybe when we develop AI this sort of thing could become a reality
perhaps this area of mathamatics should be left alone, I would rather think I have a girlfriend becuase we love each other then our equations match or something.
cough
A number of other sites have gone ahead and linked it
naw.. probably just slashdot
so whats the determinate of "the matrix"
*ducks*
thats true.. eyes and fingers are much harder to steal then cards
people can look like each other, numbers are unique
the potention for abuse of nation id cards is just to great
possible solution
lets create two sort of measurements of time
one) time based purely on rotation of earth on axis, so when earth time reads noon, there will always be a sun straight up in the sky
two) a sort of universal time, like a "star date" from star trek, meaning that when the star date increments in one unit, that the earth time might be out of whack.
Who cares if in a 1000 years the earth is on the other side of the sun, as long as in 1000 years noon is still daylight
Are these things going to be available to the general public? If they are how many digits are we talking about for one of them?
