Second, horse drawn carriages had a maximum sustainable speed that made travel of any significant distance (more than a few miles) a serious undertaking.
The problem with this way of thinking is how would you know that horse drawn carriages were "too slow" when there is nothing faster? Horses were the fastest means of transportation known at the time.. Maybe there's a serious improvement coming to the future of TV that the majority of people haven't conceived yet?
It sure didn't look nearly powerful enough to haul cable behind it. I'm sure there's many innovations to come still, and this was an early prototype, but I think it's much more likely that it would be used with a video camera mounted on it.. Maybe finding leaks in hard to get to spaces, or searching for survivors in wreckage (as the article suggested). The most impressive part to me was that the prototype only cost $5 in parts..
If you're going to do this, why not take it a step further and have the GPS system govern the max speed allowed in your vehicle? Maybe allow like 2 over the posted speed limit.. This would stop all speeding (and get rid of speeding tickets), but it's in the name of safety, right??
I was thinking the same thing. How does this become front page "news", three guys are planning to port an old OS to a piece of hardware which has been discontinued. Who cares? I see that it's cheap, but so is almost anything else that has been discontinued.
So you want to have a 1 cubic inch device hanging out of your headphone jack with a "back" button on it? Seems like it would be a pain in the ass, and make it more difficult to store your phone in your pocket or holster or wherever you like to carry it.. Or keeping the device in your pocket and only inserting it when you need to hit "back" is also tedious.
Pittsburgh would love to tax "outsiders".. Their high tax rates are a part of why everyone who can afford to has left the county and lives in Butler, Beaver, or Washington county. The city wanted to pass a "commuter tax" a few years back, to get more income tax from people who work in the city but live elsewhere. I believe a big part of the cause of the Revolutionary war was "taxation without representation", which a commuter tax would be. I would like to think a tuition tax could be that way as well. These students (from outside the city) don't get a vote towards mayor or city council, do they? Seems illegal..
Seems ironic.. and on Linux you had to spend your time with ifconfig and whatnot (it was never clear for me, but the first step was to change your wifi card to AP mode). and then your sig says Ubuntu is an African word meaning 'I can't configure Debian'... I'm guessing you're a Ubuntu user?
VMS is still in production use on many railroads in the USA and internationally, running on VAX boxes. I deal with that, as well as dealing with SIMH (what we call SimVAXes) on i386 hardware.
Seems like we had this discussion already..
Holographic 3D. Something that looks a lot more realistic than the current 3D.

The innovation is that it can "walk" or "crawl".. 4 legs, or worm like..

I found this to be a nice look at skyrim. Also, oblig. Penny Arcade.

I'm sure Apple will love this!
At least in the big time NCAA Div 1 schools, the multi-million-dollar sports facilities pay for themselves in football revenue.
That's a good idea for photos (costco photo center is a personal favorite), but it's much more difficult to print videos..

I would bet good money that they will have vastly fewer subscribers in a very short amount of time.
Worst summary ever...
Someone say Nook Opened
It does seem to be kind of old "news" if you can call it news.. The bottom of the page in TFA says Copyright 2002...

I thought Clinton already looked down under?
I believe they were actually looking for items with the tag "National Science Foundation Website" (nsfw), but found things they hadn't planned on.
Abacus is still taught as a substitute for a calculator for the blind. My sister learned to use one in about second grade if I recall.

And I didn't even know that the World Wrestling Federation was green!!
It deals double damage.
