I own a 1999 Honda Civic SiR. It has a 1.6L 160HP 4 cylinder engine. When I turn on the air conditioning, I litterally get an "air-brake" effect. If the cruise-control is on, the RPM's jump up to compensate (IIRC about 200~400rpm). If I am manually controlling the speed and engage the air-conditioner, I drop speed and available horsepower.
I was the helpdesk/IT department for our regional branch of a large multi-national company. One day my boss told me that his boss wanted to see logs of customer call-traffic/work done, etc.
Being a printer company, I would get between 0-100 calls in a day. (some days nothing, other days LOTS)
I complied and logged the things I did. This got annoying very quickly so I stopped. I told my boss that the "official" service calls that I did were already being tracked by another part of the system, and the unofficial 30-second phone fixes (did you check to make sure the printer isn't out of paper) were too numerous and time-consuming to keep track of. My boss agreed. Case closed.
A few months went past and my boss asked me again to "log everything you do in a day". Sigh, here we go again.
So I filled out the logs. Logging EVERYTHING. I high-lighted the time-blocks that involved "filling out Time Log", some days that alone counted for 30% of my clock-time. A week later me, my boss, and the General Manager had a meeting. They gave me hell for writing in my bathroom breaks, asked why I was spending so much time writing out logs, and why were people now complaining that they had to leave a voice-mail as opposed to talking to me.
If you cannot "log" what your techs are doing non-invasivly, then you will not get an accurate measurement of what they do.
Try setting up a security camera if you are worried that they are playing WOW on company time. If the job is getting done properly, LEAVE THEM ALONE.
No, the dye never got me high or buzzed. I too had a grand mal once, scared the shit out of my mom and I just wanted to sleep. I was on a few different drugs tegretol was one of them, but nothing helped 100%
I used to have temporal-lobe epilepsy (aka psycho-motor epilepsy) and the "Trigger" emotion/sensation was a very intense feeling of deja-vu. The sensation did not cause the seizure but was rather a warning sign that an episode was starting.
It was caused by a tumor in my Right-temporal lobe. Surgery was preformed and removed my right-temporal lobe plus more from a deep 'root' as the doctor called it. That was April 30/1990. I am feeling much better now. =)
While Blizzard has 'fixxed' this small goof on their part, and many ~geeks~ on this board and on others around the world have forgotten something.

Has the author actually tried installing XP on a new computer? (a Dell 'OEM reinstall' doesn't count) You need to be MORE of a hardware expert to install XP on a computer then if you were to install Linux (especially Ubuntu). yes I know that XP is 5 years old and can't support 'NEW' equipment, but the author doesn't seem to care so I won't either.
Will Vista support more hardware out-of-the-box? yes of course. Will linux support more hardware then Vista in 1+ years? yes of course.
If you install XP...
you need to know what chipset you are using. you need to know what graphics card you have. you need to make sure SP2 gets installed FIRST so that you can get USB2.0 to work...etc
This is needed just to get the computer to work at better-then-i386 settings. Most linux installs *at default* give you MORE usability then XP ever has.
If the government can't get it's collective head out of it's ass to setup/allow for inter-state/inter-country taxation of goods & services; how do they EVER expect to tax imaginary items!
For anybody who has followed the mailing lists know that the developers decision to change the 'message-send' default-key (from Ctrl + Enter to Enter) has met with a lot of resistance and complaints, but thankfully it is changable. Although kinda difficult to find as it is not obvious at first glance.
This I can live with because it is a variable that _I_ can change. Kudos to the team for realising that not everybody likes to do things _your_ way. Hrm, Gnome; take a look.
What I can't stand is a change to the code that eliminates a or space character at the end of a message. They have actually gone so far as to have the code actively delete and space or null characters at the end of a message.
Gaim, and ICQ allow these actions by default. IMO i think Kopete devs went into a monkey-see monkey-do and just copied what MSN does.
For me the deal-breaker is the space-character issue. Since I (like many of you other/.'ers) grew-up using BBS's, we all remember how difficult/annoying it was to try to have an online conversation with the sysop in the full-duplex windows, so as a good habit we all started adding and 'extra' ENTER to notify the other person that we were done talking. This habit has stuck with me throughout my IM'ing life. The only medium that this method doesn't work is IRC.
For example:
My desired Output:
Person 1: this is a sample message that I would type in an IM window (Enter) (Enter) Person 2: And this would be the reply, nicely seperated (visually) from the previous message.(Enter) (Enter)
######
Kopete's new-default behaviour.
Person 1: Now converstions can/will look very cluttered. Person 2: Despite KDE's past behaviour of allowing users to setup whatever setting they wanted to use. Person 1: I have spoken with the dev's on freenode, but they had a holier-then-thou attitude that was very similar to the heated conversations that took place regarding the ctrl+enter vs Enter 'send-message' debacle.

UltraViolet radiation/light breaks down the Hydrongen bonds in Methane (CH3) thus 'destabalising' the molecule. Mars has no ozone layer too, (which blocks a large % of ground-level UV)
You sir have hit the nail on the head. This is exactly the same reason I use Flux too. I have never given much thought, but the agony of using a different OS/DE and not having my application list NOW and close to my point of of focus drives me batty.
As I type this I think that is the answer. Point-of-Focus, (I should (tm) that now and get ready to sue.) is the MOST user-friendly way accessing data. Your eyes are there, your focus is there, and more importantly your thoughts are there. Not needing to move my head to find the menu and not miss-click is a huge time and concentration saver.
This issue get more important as we move to multiple displays.
I have noticed some quirks with NFS and Debian/Ubuntu together. But mostly, I went (back) to Debian was to keep my system identical (gcc, libs, etc) to all my production servers. I don't need the newest java, or flash, or "game-of-the-week" so I don't care about Ubuntu as much.
I have setup/installed Ubuntu on about 17 other systems for family/friends and $ clients $. I stongly suggest it for everybody.
Ubuntu: Stable and Easy like Debian, just newer & shiny.
I have just spent the last 2 days trying to install Gentoo. First I tried the newest 2006.1 LiveDVD. It wouldn't get past gpm (general purpose mouse), so I disabled gpm, and it got stuck on the next section.
I went to IRC, #gentoo@freenet.org and the sage advice I got was: um, yeah 2006.1 is bjorked, try 2005.1.
So I did. I popped in the LiveCD, let it boot and upon once complete I had a CLI. (surprised me, all other LiveCD's I have used actually booted to a GUI) Not a problem, I can handle this. I followed the directions in the handbook exactly. Everything went smoothly untill it came time to reboot (after setting up grub).
Reboot. Grub panics because it can't find what it needs. I got the edit menu and try to fix it. No luck.
So I go through the whole process again. This time I even went so far as to make my partitions the exact same size so that everything would be verbatim. reboot, same grub panic.
Third try; I avoid the Stage 3 install and do everything live via the online handbook. It works! Glorious Rapture I can now boot to a CLI. The handbook on the CD is DIFFERENT AND WRONG. The online handbook is accurate and worked.
So now it's time to start installing apps. MC and rar were the first to be installed, portage was complaining about using an old profile, so I switched it manually. It still didn't like it, so thanks to help on IRC I emerged eselect and was able to change my emerge profile. I test it with a couple other small apps, and errors are all gone.
Now I need a web-browser, so I can google for answers to questions that I have. emerge lynx Emerge now throws up some access violation. Next I try links, same error.
I think to myself, I'll get back to those later. so I emerge fluxbox (expecting to get xorg too, but I didn't despite flux's obvious dependencies).
Flux installs with no errors. startx -> nothing ok, so now emerge xorg-x11, and I get another Access Violation. I toss in a knoppix CD, get online to google these access Violations, turns out that it is (possibly) due to a font conflict between 2 differnet packages that need to be installed (that both need the same font).
I quit. Back to Debian for me. Apt I missed you. I have tried: redhat, mandrake, suse, slackware, DSL, puppy, linspire, debian, ubuntu, and now gentoo. They have all caused me grief. But I still love debian.

The visual styles that you refer to just add to the screen clutter. The 'extra' space is just used to visually break-up large blocks of text.
Would you suggest that we abandon using paragraphs completely because we don't need to seperate "chains-of-thought", or topics.
This has nothing to do with being stuck in the 80's but instead a complaint about developers intenionally crippling software.
The (ring)WORLD is not stable!

This will ALWAYS give you a different result, and it is not reproducable/predictable.
