  1. Re:America on German Search Engines Self-Regulating · · Score: 2, Insightful

Absolute freedom is an illogical myth. Some freedoms must be precluded to preserve more important ones. That's why my freedom to swing my fist must end at the tip of your nose. Everybody (aside from anarchists) knows this intuitively.

Anarchists know this intuitively. Unless you're talking about "chaos and bombs" anarchists, which aren't really anarchists at all.

Anarchists are non-violent by nature because violence is an authoritave act. Any successful act of authority creates a hierarchy.

It is a commone misconception that anarchy means "do whatever the fuck you want to." It doesn't. It's not no rules, it's no authority. There would be rules in an anarchist society, the difference would be in how the rules were made, and how they were enforced.

My point is - it still happens whether people take all these precautions or not.

"those of us who give the criminals pause, who have made the choice to do what it takes to protect our homes and our families ask nothing in return for the extra protection it affords you, except that you leave us alone. Not even for your thanks. We can't even get that."

what extra protection that is affords me? are you fucking crazy? What should I be thanking you for? If someone attacks me, I'll fight back. I have no problem with someone owning a gun. I was responding to someone who was talking like everyone should be watching their back constantly otherwise the oh-so-dangerous general public might rape them.

  7. Re:The victims would disagree on Smart Guns are Coming · · Score: 1

While I understand that the grandparent post may have touched a soft spot with you, and while I understand that there have been many, many "home invasions," I believe that the difference between the number of people who are victimized each day, and the number of people who just live out a normal day is very great indeed. Just because it happened to you, or to people you know, does not make it likely. Or "not all that unlikely." It's pretty damn unlikely depending on where you live. Sure there's a chance that the victim could have been me, or someone I know but when you look at the fact that the vast majority of people haven't ever had their homes broken into, it seems pretty dumb to worry about it.

Maybe, just maybe the people who ran the site figured out that they could do whatever they wanted, and they'd still be rolling in the page hits.

I mean think about the amount of traffic that pours through this site everyday. This is a site that has a reputation for bringing down servers from mass amount of click-through traffic, and that's just the people who even bother to RTFA. I rarely if ever do, myself seeing as most of the articles don't interest me for shit.

I say we just ignore the articles entirely, and just start talking about whatever the fuck we want to. It's not like we pay to see this site (at least I don't)

Oh wait, everyone is already doing that, barely keeping on-article topic if at all. Good, because theres almost always people here that know more about the topic the article was written on than the authors of said shitty articles.

Don't read the articles, block the ads, and just start talking about whatever comes to your head when you read the article summary. That's what /. is for.

If you are a paying member of the site...I'm assuming you have the money to throw around. The incentive to pay to be a member(OOH I CAN SEE THE ARTICLES SOONER) is pretty much counter-productive to what I come here for anyhow.

When the PS2 came out, I bought one mainly for the fact that I would be able to play new games on it, while not having to have another system for PS1 games - and frankly, I used the system mainly for PS1 games.

So, unless I can play all three system's games on the PS3 - or if a game comes out for it that would actually be worth the price of the system - I will not be buying a PS3.

Although I am a bit biased when it comes to games - I tend to judge the quality of a system by the quality of it's RPGs
